I don't know about you all, but I struggle with discipline (procrastination). Especially if it's something I don't like doing (i.e. housekeeping, dieting, etc.)

I seek God regularly for His wisdom and the counsel of the Holy Spirit but I have yet to conquer procrastination. (I'm not where I need to be, but thank God I'm not where I used to be).

I'm aware of what the Word says but I'm curious if anyone has ever conquered this (through Christ). It all has to do with having the spiritual maturity to do what needs to be done regardlesss of how I "feel" about it. Any advice?

@Misty Williams In the end, the spiritual exercise involved in daily prayer and the Scriptures is a basis for sorting out what is really important in life.

Going to air my bit of dirty laundry here!
I hate housecleaning, always have, but back when I was working full-time an hour away from home, it was easy to justify a messy house (plus I had teens at home who helped me out). Now kids are grown, I'm retired, I keep putting it off until it's a nightmare and then have to spend two days cleaning like crazy LOL. Please tell me someone out there is just like me???

I need to put aside OTHER things that are taking up my time that don't really matter (other than I enjoy doing them). I feel the Lord gently nudging me to be a better steward and prioritize what's important over what's fun. I wish I could transform into a neat freak who just adores cleaning haha.

Misty, Hello!
Here is a lovely bible verse for you!

For the moment all discipline seems painful rather than pleasant, but later it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it. Hebrews 12:11

for your housework procrastination. Start out with just a quick pick up LR, DR, wash dishes and make the beds. This is the way I did it when i was first married. I was able to get all of this done during the commercials. :) Didn't miss a single soap opera! Not deep, just a quick pickup.
Once a week, concentrate on a room, just pick one, and spend a little more time on it. For laundry, I found that taking hangers to the laundry room with me, and hanging clothes that should be hung on the hangers, so you don't have to do it later.
Ask the Lord, in the morning when you wake, to help you figure out what you need to do. Don't spend all day on one room, and not address the others. Much better to do a quick pick up all over. It will make you feel more accomplished. Each day you will feel better!

For the diet (this does not cost anything) There is an app called Start Your Weight Loss Journey Today With Healthi . It is a lot like ww but it is free. Put in your weight and ht, and all of that stuff, and it will tell you how many "bites" (like ww points) you can have that day. You also get 28 extra "bites" s weekly in case of a spec occasion or a dessert or something. This little thing even has a scanner,(be sure and load the app to your phone--it's fun scanning at the store!) so that you can scan foods and see how many bites are in one serving. There is a pro plan available on it, so you can get recipes, etc, but I haven't done it and it still works fine. It has a place where you can type in foods and search, so if you want to know how many bites are in a serving of bread, just tell it what kind of bread. (On bread when you look at the "bites" make sure of the serving size on the loaf. For example. some breads are 2 slices for serving, while others are one. Those yummy artisan breads they have are = to two pieces of many of the regular loaves. I would count eggs as zero if you use spray on them, and I use a butter spray to butter my bread now (0 bites). All fruits and non starchy veg are 0 points as long as you don't eat a bunch of them) So 2 times a week, I spray a pan, put onion, garlic, peppers) summer squash (or eggplant or zucchini, tomatoes, tomato sauce, just a bit, and a couple jalapeno slices, cook it down (you can saute the onion and garlic and peppers first in the pam type spray, then add the others. ( 0 bites!!!!)It is delicious and tasted like pizza topping to me. I also love cottage cheese. I get the one % kind, and 1/2 cup is 2 "bites". So if I eat a couple of cups of my veg for supper with cottage cheese, my supper is only 2 "bites" and if i want a slice of bread, maybe 2 more "bites". I can spray the bread with my butter spray ( I use the I can't believe it's not butter spray) . so 4 'bites" total for a meal (I'm allowed 30 "bites" a day)

I do have some sugar free treats, though. The vanilla( 2 "bites"), chocolate(3"bites"), and jello snack puddings(0),Make sure they are all sugar free , and also sugar free fudgesicles are only 1 "bite"! As you can tell I have a sweet tooth!

There is a Healthi facebook support group as well. Give this thing a try.

God bless you!
Make a plan, and work it!..

Excited for you!!!!!!!♥♥♥

I too have disliked housework all my life. But I like tidy. My problem is now solved in a way I never thought would have - I have a cleaner.

The solution is simple. (1) Sit down and make a "To Do" list every day, (2) then prioritize it, (3) then arrange your tasks in order of priority (highest to lowest), and (4) then get to it as though your life depended on it.:cool: Delete each item as you finish it. Seek out a tough "monitor" (friend or family member) who will monitor you, and make sure that you do what you are supposed to do. No excuses.

If this is about getting chores done, I write on my calendar what needs to be done each day, and if there is too much to be put on the calendar, I make out a list. I get at my daily chores as soon as I'm up and ready. I get at my weekly chores at the beginning of the week. I get at my monthly chores at the beginning of the month. And when I get weary, I knock off for the day.

We all generate waste and it is in our interest to keep our ar.se clean.....thats a given!
It applies as a metaphor as well.

Life and discipline are a couplet if one wants a reasonable quality of life.....with the smallest detail extending to the largest, meaning, if one is faithful in little, they will be faithful in much and visa versa.

Proverbs 8:35-36
For those who find me find life
and receive favor from the Lord.
But those who fail to find me harm themselves;
all who hate me love death.”

My procrastination point is yard work. Dislike weeding but love growing veges. I used to love yard work but now days I am so busy sleeping in the day and working at night. I have trees to prune and I need to weed whack some areas. Fortunately, I have a good lawn mower man. I see what needs to be done but need to motivate myself to get to it......;) I think we all have our archillies heel!

my Jesus this is for love of thee!

Christian suffering!

Patience Implies suffering!

In order to bear fruit we must deny ourself, suffer, and die!

John 12:24
Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit.

Jn 15:4 Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me. 5 I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.

Matthew 24:42
Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come.

Verses of Christian suffering:

Matthew 10:38
And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after me, is not worthy of me.

Matthew 16:24
Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.

Matthew 16:25
For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it.

John 12:24
Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit.

25
He that loveth his life shall lose it; and he that hateth his life in this world shall keep it unto life eternal.

Romans 5:3
And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience;

Romans 5:4
And patience, experience; and experience, hope:

Romans 8:17
And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.

2 Corinthians 12:9
And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.

2 Thessalonians 1:5
Which is a manifest token of the righteous judgment of God, that ye may be counted worthy of the kingdom of God, for which ye also suffer:

Colossians 1:11
Strengthened with all might, according to his glorious power, unto all patience and longsuffering with joyfulness;

2 Tim 2:3 Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ.

2 Timothy 2:12
If we suffer, we shall also reign with him: if we deny him, he also will deny us:

Phil 1:29
For unto you it is given in the behalf of Christ, not only to believe on him, but also to suffer for his sake;

James 1:2-8
My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience. But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing

Hebrews 6:12
That ye be not slothful, but followers of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises.

Hebrews 10:36
For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise.

Hebrews 12:4
Ye have not yet resisted unto blood, striving against sin.

1 Peter 2:20
For what glory is it, if, when ye be buffeted for your faults, ye shall take it patiently? but if, when ye do well, and suffer for it, ye take it patiently, this is acceptable with God.

Romans 8:17
And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.
