If science disagrees with the word of G-d, ( flat earth, the sun moves or even miracles) do you bend the science to fit the word of G-d or do you bend the word to fit the science? Be honest

Except the Bible does not demand or teach geocentric belief or say the world is flat.

The Bible isn't against true science, but it also isn't a scientific book. When a scientists says something against what Christians says is scriptural, first ask yourself are these scientists truly speaking out against what scripture says. Remember when many many people, including what was called the church believed the earth was the center of the universe and an astronomer said earth was a planet among other planets that revolved around the sun. This astronomer was excommunicated for what he said, was he right? Yes he was.
Scientists don't know everything about planet Earth much less about the universe. Also those calling themselves christians have been wrong when saying something is scriptural. So make sure a scientist is actually speaking out against something that genuinely is scriptural before speaking out against what a scientists says.

Three points.

First, science cannot disprove miracles (unless you're using it in a forensic way to investigate a particular case, e.g has this person actually been healed?). Science deals only with the 'normal', the general rule. Whether there might be occasional exceptions due to the activity of God is a philosophical question, not a scientific one.

Second, if science is done honestly and properly, and if God's word is true, how can they conflict? If they appear to disagree, then the most likely explanation is that we are interpreting God's word wrongly. The earth is round, but language often describes it as if flat (we still talk about "the four corners of the earth", for example). The sun doesn't move in actual fact, but it appears to move from the perspective of an observer on earth (and we still use the terms "sunrise" and "sunset" without seeing any contradiction there!).

Third point. We are rightly concerned about the "bending" of God's word, but we should also be concerned about a rigid over-literalism. We know that some parts of the Bible were never intended to be taken literally (the Song of Songs and the book of Revelation, for example). So if science contradicts the literal interpretation, we should give serious consideration to a non-literal alternative and not dismiss it out of hand.

Galiloo was not excommunicated for his views on the planets etc but for his views on the pope.
It was politics that got him not his contraviening the science of the day.

Christianity and the bible does not support a flat earth.

as for bending beliefs, that starts with what one believes.
If one believes that what science says is fact then one ends up having to bend/distort what the bible teaches.
If one starts from the bible then science also starts from a solid foundation and there is no distortion of either the bible or science.

The question arises then why was Galileo ordered to turn himself in to the Holy Office to begin trial for holding the belief that the Earth revolves around the sun, which was deemed heretical by the Catholic Church.

I was asking Windmillcharge the question, "why was Galileo ordered to turn himself in to the Holy Office to begin trial for holding the belief that the Earth revolves around the sun, which was deemed heretical by the Catholic Church," because windmillcharge said that Galileo wasn't excommunicated because of what he said about the sun revolving around the planets, when it's obvious they did order him to turn himself in for what he said about the sun and the planets.

Interesting topic.

I bend both. For example I don’t interpret genesis literally and I don’t expect science to figure out miraculous claims because it’s a career ending move for their ego-filled existence.

If you want a good story on how an atheist turned to Christianity, then look at the story of Lee Strobel.

Maybe give a concrete example?

You mentioned flat earth, that's neither Bible or science.

The sun does move, and both science and the Bible tell us that.

The Bible contains witness reports of miracles. We don't have other evidences remaining, but we do have those witness reports.

Much love!

I think the Bible is science, we just haven’t understood it correctly. The inerrancy of his word will prove true science. He invented it.

I grew up flying in my dad's airplane. You could see the curve of the earth. We flew a thousand miles once and you could see the curve the whole time. Though flying over the mountains of Maine made me nauseous!

A round ball is also a circle. I think it is a stretch to say that means the earth is flat.

Whatever the argument between Galileo and the Catholic Church, he wasn't excommunicated.
