Is this idea true? Are we all really?

So we are in a world with 7.8 billion people, have we all met people in real life, that met people in real life that have met you in real life?

Going by this idea, there may be even some members that are only 3-4 people away from someone who has met the Queen in real life.

I've seen them three times in concert. But unfortunately, it was with Adam Lambert and not Freddy Mercury.

Anything is possible, ...but it's also amazing how I can live in my condo for 10+ years, and not ever cross paths with half the residents here?

Must be a pretty big condo, but having not lived in one, I wouldn't know what it's like.

I guess being 3 or 4 degrees of separation away from someone like Queen Elizabeth II, would apply to some of our members, possibly even most members of these forums have met their local politician, and their local politician most likely has met the Prime Minister or President, and then there's a good chance the Prime Minister or President depending on which country you live in has met Queen Elizabeth II.

Well again, anything is possible, especially when you are being selective to a specific person. If you were to ask, as in your OP, have we touched all Brits, or Europeans, or the world's entire populace, by so many degrees of separation, I would say absolutely no. Consider people who live in rural or uncivilized areas of the world, where their whole community never leaves their town, village or tribe. They've never touched me, and I've never touched them.

What about Queen Elizabeth II though?

The Queen loves horseracing as you may know. A while ago a girl from the town I live in went to Kentucky for the big derby there. She was surprised to find herself standing next to the Queen and more suprised when the Queen started to talk to her. I don't know the girl, but I might know someone who knows her.

I used to work in a drug store across the street from the White House. People who worked there would come in at lunch time. I'm sure they met President Carter, and he met the Queen.

We only know the cases where it works, so that if there aren't the 6 steps of connection then how do we figure that out?

I worked with a man who is a missionary to China, with many contacts in the house church movement in Singapore, China, so through him, I'm probably within 6 degrees of many of the house churches.

I knew a man who was a founder of Mission Aviation Fellowship, who know the pilot who flew Nate Saint and Jim Elliot to the Auca tribe. So that means I'm within 6 degrees of the Auca's in South America.

My pastor has contacts in churches in Haiti, Sudan, Mexico, and on it goes.

And of course how many people do I know here, from all over the world, and the net widens.

So I think it's probably right.
