Yes, that famous canal that Egypt and Israel fought over for years has been blocked by the Chinese. The world's largest container ship lost power in a windstorm and has blocked the thing by running aground...bulldozers are hard at work trying to repair the levey. Tugboats tugging...

Hundreds of ships use it every day...but not now. This is how Europe gets it's petrol. 14 ships carrying fuel are expected to be backlogged by the time this thing gets opened back up.

Containers of oil, clothes, food, spices and even medical supplies are camped out waiting for 6 tugboats to try and free the trapped vessel.

I'm thinking that we have a stinker on the world stage...

Are you suggesting that the loss of power was deliberate on the part of the Chinese Government and that the Captain of this particular ship was simply following orders and deliberately turned the engines off to block the canal?

I wouldn't put it past the Chi-coms. The exterminate their own people and forced child labor is the norm. They have concentration camps for muslims. As one of the worlds largest polluters they could care less about the Earth. They're shady.

It's not beyond the realm of possibility that a PRC operative deliberately sabotaged the ship at a crucial moment.

China and the World (except for the USA's enemies) are having a cold war and a trade war at the moment.

China deliberately blocking one of the World's busiest canals is highly strategic.
They get to claim innocence while Europe starves for fuel and doesn't get deliveries of goods elsewhere in the world providing needed sales of goods.

This will backlog the European ports for weeks to come. Making shipping slow.
China's goods will increase in price...so will Venezuelan and Iran's oil... except in sales to China.

Not to mention that military ships won't have access through the Suez Canal either. And it makes everyone stuck an easy target for more disasters.

14 tankers full of LPG can make Europe have a real big pinch for fuel very quickly.
(LPG makes everything from stretch film for plastics to car fuel and cooking and process heat for factories and electricity)

Just saying that this is a precarious position...lots of potential for disaster.

Don't worry. We have President Harris to lead the free world in resolving this crisis.
Uggghhhh...

On Wall Street every Chinese related company has tanked hard this past week. New regulations, Beijing's criminal and anti-monopoly investigations.

I smell a concerted effort because of the trade war. Our steel exports are in the dumpster. Then there's been some blatant intellectual property thefts on many levels that has destroyed some US companies.

Just saying...this is heating up more and more.

As they say, trade wars always turn into shooting wars. The writing is on the wall.

Well considering that everyone is currently angry with Beijing's behavior... including their own citizens...I'm thinking that this won't last too long.

It very well could.

Currently there's a shooting war with India over their western Border...then Myanmar area has always been trouble. (Longest civil war in world history) Then they have issues with both Hong Kong and Taiwan.

Let's not forget that Russia is also their largest neighbor...that nobody trusts. Even the Slavic countries (Eastern Europe) really have a deep seated mistrust of Russia and even more so of China.

This has many opportunities to go very badly very quickly.

Hello

Here is a portion of the satellite image of the canal where the Suez Canal is blocked.
upload_2021-3-26_6-25-33.png

Please note that after entering the canal, ships navigate around a fairly sharp bend and then after a 8 to 10 km straight section of the canal there is a gradual bend in the canal. I would suggest that the ship is stuck in this 8-10 km straight section, which suggests that the loss of power on the ship occurred just before the ship had entered the straight sect of the canal and would have continued in a fairly straight line towards the eastern side of the canal some distance along the straight section before it's bow ran aground on the right hand bank. The wind would have then pivoted the ship around it bow and the stern would have been blown towards the western bank of the canal where it would have also run aground in the shallower waters near the bank of the canal.

A ship of this dead weight under way would have taken a considerable distance to have come to a stop with the engine(s) stopping for any reason.

This is what the situation looks like at the present time.

At present they are attempting to expose the bow of the ship:

upload_2021-3-26_6-52-8.png

Depending on how stuck the stern of the ship is, a force equivalent to around 200 tonnes pull on the stern may be able to begin moving the stern of the ship and pivot the ship on its bow if the tides are high enough if the ship has some buoyancy before any attempt can be made to begin pulling the bow of the ship out of the right bank.

If this is not possible, then containers on the ship will have to be taken off to enable the ship to begin floating where she is, and another attempt to move the ship started all over again.

The ship may have to be towed by tug boats to a safe anchorage depending on whether or not the ship's power can be restored and there is no damage to the ships rudder(s).

Let us hope that the ship can be floated off on the first attempt.

Shalom

A PS to the above post.

Has anyone considered that the Chinese mainland government may consider that the running aground of a Taiwanese company's leased vessel is an act of war and justification for China to invade Taiwan to reclaim it as their own.

The question is, was the running aground of the EverGreen's leased ship and accident waiting to happen or was it a deliberate act, by a country unknown, to either damage china's trade credentials or trigger the invasion of Taiwan by China.

We will have to wait to see what happens over the next few months as to what the outcome will be.

Shalom

Let me just say...this isn't doing my stock picks any favors. RDS-B tanked today (bit of a pun wasn't intended) because they sell Saudi Oil.
And the Red Sea needs to hook up with the Med for the oil to get to market.

A good sized portion of the Canal is in the middle of the desert. I have no idea why they don't build a secondary canal next to the existing one for bypasses and better traffic flow. Or even a pipeline for transfers of Oil and LNG.

Is that not what the war in Syria is all about. The ability to build another pipeline to transfer the oil and gas towards the Mediterranean Sea.
