There are two economic viewpoints...

Supply side and demand side.

Supply side says that if you create a supply a demand will develop.

Demand side says that a demand for products exists before a supply ever develops.

Which one do you think is true?

On the supply side, some folks will buy ANYTHING new, whether or not they "need" it. People are sold a bill of goods all the time...it's kind of like "if we build it, they will come" Lol. Seems there is no shortage of "inventors" who come up with all kinds of useless stuff.

The "demand" for a product can be an idea in the mind of the inventor but...since most people do just fine with what they have...they just don't know they "need" this shiny new thing but, the inventor will still market it thinking, the folk who will be publishing the new product will pull out all the fast talk and folks will ooh, and aah, believing they "just have to have it" Not sure that makes any sense.

Washing Machines and Bread

So once upon a time we washed our clothes in the scrub bucket or at the local river. Once washing machines were invented, everyone had to have one. So the Supplier manipulates the buying
If you go to the store and there are only 2 loaves of bread and 10 people want a loaf then the Buyer will push the supplier.
I suppose it depends on peoples priorities.
I would buy the loaf of bread before I baught a washing machine.
But it would be better if you could afford both :)

I never knew I needed a pet rock until they were selling them.

I didn't need a fidgit spinner until they were for sale...
Rubik's cube?

How about a coronavirus cure?
There's certainly a huge demand for it. But there is no supply.

Cellular phones?
Newspaper?
24 hour news programs?

Living on disability kind of puts your wants and needs in perspective.
When I worked and had money I would buy things for the house, pictures, curtains, etc.
I didnt need them I just liked them and thought I had to have them.
Where are they now?? old and dusty and withered or left behind at some point in time.
My demands now are Food and Animal supplies. I have 9 cats.
Keeping my 2005 Dodge piece of junk running down the road.
And the Internet which is my window on the world.
I dont have a cell phone. And I have a hard time reading print nowadays.
And I left the tv a long time ago.
I do have a landline which keeps me in contact with my dad who graciously supplied me his old trailer to live in.
He pays for the utilities and the taxes.
He won't charge me rent because it would effect his social security.
But not paying rent leaves me limited on my social security.
I live on $500 a month. and $100 in snap.
When you consider Auto costs, registration, insurance, maintenance.. sometimes that wipes me out in one swoop.
I don't eat much so my food bill stays within the range.
If I end up with $5 in my account at the end of the month it's a miracle lol.
Nevertheless. I'm happy. Other than my disablity I'm somewhat healthy.
I'm still breathing :)
My cats are my world and my kids. They give me a reason to get up everyday. If I dont the litter box reminds me.
And if someone else needs my vaccine for covid you are welcome to it.
I haven't had a cold in years and I never had a flu shot.
But then, I'm rather insulated and it's hard to catch something when no one is around to catch it from.
I guess you could say I live by demand, And pray for supply. :)

I think it depends on what it is.

I think slinky's and spinners show the truth that a supply will create the demand. And there is plenty to show the other way.

Something I've heard . . . Fill a need they don't know they have yet!

Much love!

What this refers to is that what drives the economy?
Economy leads to jobs...

Here in America the tap water is (for the most part) completely safe and good to drink.
No need for bottled water...

But the supply of bottled water has led to the demand...and it's a huge market generating jobs and income and buildings and automated equipment that has to be made.

Perrier started it...
Now everyone has to have their favorite flavour.

Not to mention the plastic and recycling and ocean clean up.
I live off well water generated by a pump.
I don't drink water, but I sure use it in my coffee.
Now my dad he lives off city water and says it smells like a sewer. So he only drinks water out of plastic.
My Ex and I used to drive truck. Many times we deliver plastic bottles to Pepsi.
It's what makes the "wheels" go round.
Wheels and walls.

It's almost like the chicken vx the egg.

A demand for petroleum products comes from automobiles...but where gasoline and diesel existed they weren't used much until the automobile was created.

Now we have plastics, roads, rubber and even fabrics made from the stuff.

Sugars.... how many different types do we need? Honey was the original... now how many varieties do we have?

High Fructose corn syrup even..
Dont get me started on sugar, that's what put me in the condition I am today.
But in all honesty no one shoved the sugar down my throat, that was my bad.
This world was created with supply and demand.
We demand love and God supplies it.
God demands love and we supposed to supply it back.
A give and take and take and give arrangement.
The whole world was given us, but we just had to have one more bite.
Egypt required manpower and straw to make bricks to build monuments and cities.
And teachers were needed to teach knowledge of growing things, building things, discerning things.
And it grew and grew until we all live in this Big tower.
No not the Trump Tower, rather the tower of Babel.
And babel we do.. lol
Just babbling on and on..
Would be nice if we could all just return to the first give and take and take and give principle.
Without that added bite.
:)

Demand side says that a demand for products exists before a supply ever develops.
This would generally be the case. As an example, there will always be a demand for the basics -- food, clothing, and shelter. Therefore there will always be a market for the necessities.

Saffron is known as the world's most expensive spice...

Some new houses today seem to be build with ornamental wells, which don't have any water supply...

They both work together. And they both aren't always fair, as it means someone will get paid way less than someone else.

Just because a product is created doesn't mean that a demand for it will develop. Or that the demand will be sufficient to cover the cost of the supply.

Porcupines have meat that tastes pretty good when braised or barbequed.

But notice that there really isn't anyone volunteering to become professional porcupine hunters?

Skunk perfume?
You can create a supply but the demand will be low.

Ambergris is another matter. (Whale vomit) it's used in some of the most expensive perfumes. (High demand and profit)

Building a better mousetrap always is good.
Fishing equipment catches more fishermen than fish.
