He told them a parable, saying, “The land of a rich man was very productive. And he began to reason, saying, ‘What shall I do since I have no place to store my crops?’
Then he said ‘This is what I will do; I will tear down my barns and build larger ones and there I will store my grain and my goods.’”
Paul speaks of that which he (Paul) tore down in Galatians 2:18 For if I build again the things which I destroyed, I make myself a transgressor.
I’ve read and heard this parable many times, but it wasn’t until recently I considered this with when the Pharisees and Sadducees accused Jesus of saying He would tear down the temple (God’s House) and raise it up again. But that is what they said. Jesus instead tells them if they tear it down, he will raise it up again.
The man who said he would tear it down and build it again, larger kind of sounds like what has happened today with building larger religious establishments. What goods are stored and bestowed there? Things made with hands?
Consider the parable of the man who said he would tear down his storehouse and build a bigger one to bestow his goods. how many times was this the angst between the religious leaders and God. They tear down. He builds on the Foundation of Christ; the foundation no man can lay except the foundation laid by God. This is where He bestows His goods.
Consider …a man said he would tear down his storehouse, and build a larger one with the warning to be careful how you build.
John 2:19-21 Jesus answered and said unto them, Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up. [20] Then said the Jews, Forty and six years was this temple in building, and will rear it up in three days? [21] But he spoke of the temple of his body.
1 Corinthians 3:17 If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple you are.
Mark 15:29-31 And they that passed by railed on him, wagging their heads, and saying, Ah, you that destroy the temple, and build it in three days, [30] Save thyself, and come down from the cross. [31] Likewise also the chief priests mocking said among themselves with the scribes, He saved others; himself he cannot save.
Mark 14:57-58 And there arose certain, and bare false witness against him, saying, [58] We heard him say, I will destroy this temple that is made with hands, and within three days I will build another made without hands.
Yes, consider the man that said he would tear down his storehouse made with hands, and build a larger one. Would he build it with hands? When God bestows His goods in the temple made without hands. 2 Corinthians 4:7 But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us.
And…2 Timothy 1:14 Protect, through the Holy Spirit who dwells in us, the treasure which has been entrusted to you.
Luke 19:46-48 Saying unto them, It is written, My house is the house of prayer: but you have made it a den of thieves. [47] And he taught daily in the temple. But the chief priests and the scribes and the chief of the people sought to destroy him, [48] And could not find what they might do: for all the people were very attentive to hear him.
Then he said ‘This is what I will do; I will tear down my barns and build larger ones and there I will store my grain and my goods.’”
