Hello there,

Reading through the book of Ephesians this morning, this hymn came to mind, for as I read the Lord was bringing me under conviction, and readjusting my mind and heart, which had become contaminated by the world and it's ways.

'Tell me the old, old story
.. Of unseen things above,
.... Of Jesus and His glory,
...... Of Jesus and His love,
Tell me the Story simply,
.. As to a little child,
.... For I am weak and weary,
......And helpless and defiled.

Chorus:
Tell me the Old, Old Story,
Of Jesus and His love.

Tell me the Story slowly,
.. That I may take it in
.... That wonderful redemption,
...... God's remedy for sin.
Tell me the Story often,
.. For I forget so soon:
.... The 'early dew' of morning
...... Has passed away at noon.

Tell me the Story softly,
.. With earnest tones and grave;
.... Remember! I'm the sinner
...... Whom Jesus came to save.
Tell me that Story always,
.. If you would really be
.... In any time of trouble
...... A Comforter to me.

Tell me the same Old Story,
.. When you have cause to fear
.... That this world's empty glory,
...... Is costing me too dear.
Yes, and when that world's glory,
Is dawning on my soul,
Tell me the Old, Old Story:
"Christ Jesus makes thee whole"

* This world's empty glory had been dawning on my soul, and my mind and heart were becoming taken up by the things of this world, instead of upon the Lord: I needed to hear that Old, Old Story again, and be brought into His presence, to sit at His feet and be washed by the word of God from all the world's influence and it's ways.

Thank you for listening.
In Christ Jesus
Chris

@Giuliano Shows the great need for daily prayer and the Scriptures, right? :)
And then mindfulness in our daily lives. It seems to me that when we have the Word as a lamp to light our path, it also shines to others. Is it not a wonderful thing that when we seek our own salvation, we are also helping others -- or you could say when we help others, we are also helping ourselves.

Psalm 119:105 Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.

Proverbs 4:18
But the path of the just is as the shining light, that shineth more and more unto the perfect day.

@Debp In principle I agree. Some of them are a bit short on doctrine, but so many of them are memorable and comforting.

But that is also true of many "Christians" today. But Christ also told us to leave them alone as they are still pointing towards Him, be it a little misguided.

Tell me the Old, Old Story:
"Christ Jesus makes thee whole"

Hello there,

This is wonderful, and it is true: Christ Jesus our risen Saviour, Lord and Head has made us 'whole'. Yet, this is the truth that is most attacked. For man will not accept that he has to come to the Lord saying, 'nothing in my hands I bring, simply to Thy cross I cling'.

In Ephesians chapter one we are told that we are 'accepted in The Beloved', that we are, 'Complete in Him': but man will not have it; like the People of Israel they are seeking to establish their own righteousness and therefore have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God, which is freely given on the basis of the blood of Christ's all sufficient sacrifice for sin.

Time and again the Lord has had to bring me back to this point, and show me that I have been 'made meet to partake of the inheritance of the saints in light'. It is what He has done. I can therefore come boldly unto His throne of grace, not as a simpering penitent, but as a thankful child of my Father in Christ Jesus, and an heir of His grace.

Praise His Holy Name!

Thank you
In Christ Jesus
Chris
