...a cruel and unusual punishment?

The late Archbishop Tutu once said 'An eye for an eye? A tooth for a tooth? Pretty soon, the world will be blind and toothless.'

Jesus once said 'Let he who is without sin cast the first stone.'

So I wonder what you all make of capital punishment?

Best wishes, 2RM.

I for one do not think a Christian should support this. Yeah, easy to say when it is not my family member who might have been raped and killed by said person but God DID say that we should not take vengence...it is His alone.
I will probably get flack for my opinion, won't be the first time, nor the last. So, JMHO!

op: what do you think of capital punishment?
Precious friend, what I think does not matter at all;
What Saith The Scriptures?

To individuals:

Exo_20:13 Thou shalt not kill.
Deu_5:17 Thou shalt not kill.
Mat_5:21 Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt
not kill; and whosoever shall kill shall be in danger of the judgment:

Rom_13:9 For this, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill,
Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Thou shalt not covet;
and if there be any other commandment, it is briefly comprehended in this
saying, namely, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

Individuals, Correct? How about governments?

Rom_13:1 Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there
is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God.

Rom_13:3 For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil.
Wilt thou then not be afraid of the power? do that which is good, and
thou shalt have praise of the same:

God Says "capital punishment" belongs to governments, Correct?

GRACE and Peace...

On the contrary, what you think matters a great deal, and, so far as I can make out, scripture is ambiguous. Check out Leviticus if you have any doubt on the matter.

Sure is not this way anymore, it is the opposite as, our "leaders" are bought and sold to the highest bidder! So many are horrible, including the good ole us of a. Anyone who actually trusts the governments of THIS world, are following Satan far as I am concerned. I believe not a thing they say. If the government said that you could no longer worship YOUR God but, the "god" of this world only...is it okay to disobey the government then? The whole world is duped and has no idea.

It may be different in the US, but in the UK I genuinely believe that most of our MPs have stood for election because they want to make a positive impact on the nation. I may not agree with all of them about politics, but I approve of their motivation. And most of them would make more money in the private sector.

Best wishes, 2RM.

If this is true, how come the UK has become a total disaster?

Tutu was a closet Jesuit and even misrepresented the intent of that phrase as it is found in scripture.

God said,

Gen 2:17: "But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die."

Paul said,

Rom 6:23: "For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord."

God is for the death penalty, for it is mercy and just to unrepentant sinners.

Death penalty is called "Capital Punishment", which is a death sentence for crimes against the state. God rules all the universe by His law (of love), which is the foundation of His throne and government. Transgression of the law of love is treason against love.

God brought the flood of water in Noah's day, and will bring the flood of fire at the end.

Death penalty is not cruel, it's mercifully love.

Thanks for that, ReChoired. I have a different perspective, though. God knows the sins to which we are prone, and forgives them. However, to receive His grace, we must repent, atone and forgive ourselves. (No easy process, as many will testify). There is nothing in my philosophy that requires death for any crime or sin; indeed, that might interfere with the route we need to travel to become one with Him, as He desires.

Best wishes, 2RM.

The commandment is not to commit murder ,capital punishment is scriptural
There's a difference between murder and killing

Or murder and execution for HEINOUS crimes.

Indeed so. But what is execution but state sanctioned murder? Seems to me that Jesus called on us all, like God, to forgive trespasses against us. Or anyone else.

Best wishes, 2RM.

I am all for the Death Penalty, for those that commit murder, rape, incest, adultery and pedophilia and other crimes that deserve the Death penalty in the Bible.

You don't think we should, as God does, forgive, then?

The death penalty...
OP ^

...a cruel and unusual punishment?
So I wonder what you all make of capital punishment?

Not cruel.
Not unusual.
Not exercised enough.

God Himself is the giver of Freewill.
God Himself sets the principles and standards.
God Himself will KILL a man who LIES to Him.
digest THAT ^^ !!
THEN observe...the crimes and the spineless law makers who are afraid to enact laws to PROTECT the people THEY take an OATH to PROTECT.

Men live in fear, put bars on their own homes, BECAUSE law makers are too spineless to establish laws, publish the laws, inform the public....
Crimes of men Against men will not go unpunished.
Intended and targeted Thefts, Assaults, Murders are committed routinely, daily, and have become a joke, an acceptable entertainment for tv producers......oh ha, ha, ha....lookie here a tv program about AUTO thieves with rap sheets a mile long, and getting another scolding and hand slap.
......oh, oh....lookie here men breaking into homes, businesses, nations, stealing, raping, murdering, with a mile long rap sheet, getting a punishment of a free room and free meals for a few years.....gee, I’d better go make sure my doors are locked and my window bars are secure!

* Cruel and Unusual would be NOT KNOWING the “consequence” of one’s Action.
* Politicians...Stop blathering about STOPPING crimes...”BY” STEALING the LIBERTY of people WHO DO NOT COMMIT crimes......AND exponentially INCREASE the “consequences” for those WHO CHOOSE to commit crimes against the nation, against its citizens and their property.

Only if they repent and abstain, rapists and pedophiles seldomly change their ways or stop their wicked ways and repent as do murderers.

Those can't be forgiven and must be put to death.
