The Eternal Purpose

Once we commit ourselves to a course of learning, it becomes difficult to change. Changing direction often requires tearing down many things we spent years learning. Hebrews 11:10 tells us that Abraham looked for a city “whose builder and maker is God.” Yet nowhere in Genesis do we find him making that confession. His desire was a hidden mystery until Paul revealed it. The fullness of this mystery has been clouded and distorted in these last days through misguided and ambitious leaders who have divided the church around foundations that have nothing to do with God’s eternal purpose.

Are we building simply for the sake of building? Are we building without, or even contrary to, the blueprint? Are we following the path of the majority without questioning whether what we are building is really from God? What is our foundation and where are the stones?

Paul stated God’s eternal purpose in Ephesians 3:8–12: that he was granted grace to preach to the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ and to make all see the fellowship of the mystery hidden in God from the beginning of the ages. This revelation was always intended to display God’s manifold wisdom- through the church -to the principalities and powers in heavenly places—according to the eternal purpose accomplished in Christ Jesus.

When we compare Hebrews 11 to Ephesians 3, and then look back to Abraham, we find that his faith was guiding him toward something he could not fully see—a heavenly city of which he himself was a part. This revelation became clear only through the apostles and prophets, with Jesus Christ being the chief cornerstone. God’s purpose from creation forward was to build a temple of His presence using living stones. His focus was never on forms, rituals, Sunday services, programs, or agendas, but on a living body fitly joined together without divisions.

Paul makes this point in Ephesians 2:19–22: that believers are no longer strangers and foreigners but members of God’s household, built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Jesus Christ Himself being the chief cornerstone. In Him, the whole building is being fitted together and grows into a holy temple in the Lord—a dwelling place for God in the Spirit. A corporate revelation of the indwelling of the Trinity.

Can we see what we have done with His purpose? The agendas, the false revelations, the divisions, the names we gather around—all of it has lacked the true Builder and Maker, who has one purpose. If every man had built on the true foundation, there would have been a continual joining of His members into one house. But we have lost the vision by building around men. We now find ourselves in the same condition Israel was in at Jesus’ first coming—our traditions, though sincere, have overshadowed God’s eternal purpose.

God’s purpose was to create a living temple of living stones and reveal His wisdom, majesty, glory, and power to the ruling angelic powers through this temple. These angels witness God continually unfolding His glory in ways that exceed their understanding. So overwhelming is this revelation that all they can cry around His throne is “Holy, holy, holy!”

God’s eternal purpose is to manifest His glory through His earthly temple—you and me and all the saints (not just the leadership) bound together in love. He desires to reveal the fullness of His love through His body on earth, as it is in heaven. This revelation is too vast for any one person; it must be comprehended together. A corporate understanding of love.

As Paul prayed in Ephesians 3:17–19, believers together—rooted and grounded in love—would comprehend the width, length, depth, and height of Christ’s love and be filled with all the fullness of God. Jesus, the cornerstone and great High Priest, is preparing a dwelling place for God forever. Too often we have been rooted in men and their false revelations rather than Christ’s eternal purpose. We don’t need anymore books, methods, techniques or traditions. We need the outpouring and anointing of the Holy Spirit.

Can we honestly say that when we stand before Jesus we will hear, “Well done, good and faithful servant”? Have we been faithful to His eternal purpose—or only to building our own kingdoms, saving our lives instead of losing them? Whoever destroys God’s temple will be destroyed. The consequence is great because the calling is great.

How can we ignore Jesus’ prayer in John 17, where He pleads for unity among believers—unity rooted in the oneness He shares with the Father? The world will know Christ was sent by the Father only when His people walk in this unity.

This unity cannot be with those who gather in another name—whether a denomination, a ministry, or a personality—but with those who gather in His name alone. Jn 5:43 I am come in my Father's name, and ye receive me not: if another shall come in his own name, him ye will receive.” Look at the names of some of these big ministries…whose name is on them? The fullness of God can only dwell in a body united perfectly in Christ. There must be unity from the head to toe so the anointing will flow from the head to the hem of the garment, where healing takes place. (Ps 133) This seems impossible to men who do not understand the cross. Men seeking their own glory cannot grasp God’s purpose. We must go to the cross and surrender our ambitions.

God’s promises were given so we may partake of His divine nature (2 Peter 1:4). Yet many apply God’s promises to carnal desires—money, significance, power. Such pursuits cannot produce the divine nature and will not become building material for His temple. God will not use imitation stones but only those shaped by His hand.

Part Two

This revelation still challenges our generation. It has been neglected because we have adopted a clergy/laity divide and a man-centered gospel. We have established an authoritative model after the techniques of the gentiles, which is forbidden by Christ (Matthew 20:25-28) Our short-sightedness has caused us to blindly follow agendas that obscure this mystery. Even when people speak of God’s eternal purpose, the structures they build cannot sustain its fruit or manifest it’s reality

Peter taught foundational truths to new believers: to lay aside malice, deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and evil speaking, and to desire the pure milk of the Word (1 Peter 2:1–5). Believers are living stones being built into a spiritual house and holy priesthood to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God—not men.

When David desired to build God a house, the Lord responded that He had never asked for such a structure (2 Samuel 7:5–7). God does not dwell in temples made with hands (Acts 7:48–49). His dwelling place is His people, through whom He reveals His fullness to an unbelieving world.

Yet because Israel’s heart was hard and the revelation of the true temple was hidden until Christ, God allowed Solomon to build the physical temple as a shadow. When the glory filled that temple on completion, the priests could not stand to minister because of the glory!

1 Ki 8:10-11 And it came to pass, when the priests were come out of the holy place, that the cloud filled the house of the Lord, So that the priests could not stand to minister because of the cloud: for the glory of the Lord had filled the house of the Lord.

When God fills His true temple of living stones, no man will be able to exalt himself or stand in preeminence. Think of the glory that temple will manifest . God’s eternal purpose is revealed through the church—not through what many call the “fivefold ministry.”

In past decades, the fivefold ministry became a popular trend. Groups quickly attempted to establish these ministries without understanding God’s eternal purpose. According to Ephesians 4, the fivefold ministry is temporary scaffolding—meant only to support the building until the body becomes one new man. Sadly, today the scaffolding is exalted higher and higher, while little actual building occurs. Many churches have been built around the scaffolding rather than the cornerstone. The fivefold ministry has often contributed to division and separation. “Till we all come to the unity of the faith” has been overshadowed by the exaltation of men.

Why does God allow this? In His patience, He permits the efforts of the natural man to run their course before He intervenes. Many leaders race to be first, but God raises a standard. Today, God is calling many outside the camp—outside the institutional systems of religion—to be shaped directly by Him. (Hebrews 13:12-13) These stones are being formed in the wilderness, away from the noise of human ambition.

1 Ki 6:7 and the house, when it was in building, was built of stone made ready before it was brought thither: so that there was neither hammer nor axe nor any tool of iron heard in the house, while it was in building.

Many have come out of Babylon to be purified and prepared. In this wilderness company, God will dwell in fullness. There will be no debates, no divisions, no gathering around names or personalities. Only the name of Jesus will be exalted. God works quietly in the furnace of affliction, shaping hearts in ways unseen by the crowds. Many leaders have been raised by men, but far fewer have been raised through the life of Christ. True ministry flows from life, not information.

God is seeking those who live from the reality of heavenly places, who are not absorbed by earthly concerns but see His eternal purpose. This life is short; nothing compares to His kingdom. Those being prepared walk by an inner revelation of the cross and a deep obedience to Christ.

God has often sent His people into Babylon for painful lessons before bringing them out (Micah 4:10). In the end, the living temple will rise as the Holy City, the New Jerusalem (Revelation 21:1–5). God Himself will dwell with His people, and His glory will fill His eternal dwelling place.

This is the eternal purpose of God—to have a people fully His, a temple made of living stones, in whom He reveals His fullness forever.

I have to be honest Brother, christian forums are littered with posts that are little more than vain attempts at self exaltation and or a pathological desire for affirmation.

God have mercy, I've probably written a few myself.

I presumed that this was just another such post, when I saw it was written in not one but two parts, I was certain of it.

I even considered leaving a snarky little comment without even reading your words. Its late, and I'm tired, and I've learned over time that when I am physically or mentally weary, my flesh has a tendency to get the best of me.

But praise God, in the last few years I have grown much more receptive to the leadings of the Spirit of Christ within me. So when He gently spoke to my heart, "before you make a fool of yourself, why not read the post",
I listened. And I'm so glad I did.

It turns out I could have written your post myself, as Our Father has been speaking much of these same thoughts to me for weeks now.

I agree with pretty much everything you said. I love you in Christ, I love the Spirit of Christ within you, and thank you sincerely for taking the time and being obedient enough to pass these thoughts along. I hope that others will also take the time to prayerfully consider what God placed upon your heart to share here with His body.

Much love, much peace.
Stay humble.
Glory to God in the Highest.

Good work there shepherdsword,

Lots of great gems.

We can trust that the Lord, the Head of the Body will complete what He has started and built over the centuries and across the world.

I do not think there is a problem in achieving things in this life. But God should be our focus and intentions behind our successes.

What a well researched OP! Nicely done. A few comments.

The world will know Christ was sent by the Father only when His people walk in this unity.

Then the world will never know Christ was sent by the Father because over time, the faithful are less united. See 45,000 denominations now. Cultural evolution continues to divide the church. Many orthodox are named by this, e.g. Russian, Greek, etc. LGBTQ contagion is spreading in acceptance. Divorce among Christians is not statistically less than unbelievers.

This seems impossible to men who do not understand the cross.

It seems impossible for men who DO understand the cross even more so than men who don't. Can you think of any organization in human history more splintered than Christendom? There are only about 280 nations on Earth. And only 7,159 languages are in use today.

Yet many apply God’s promises to carnal desires—money, significance, power.

Carnal desire. Carnal need. There is nothing wrong with desiring what one needs. Watched a video Friday talking about a common group divided by noble purposes. Consider the fruit of the spirit. Some are called to primarily promote love. Others joy. Still other peace, and so on.

You artfully quoted many verses. Let me share some. 1 Corinthians 12:12 There is one body, but it has many parts. But all its many parts make up one body. It is the same with Christ. So, the division is there even among the faithful. Christendom fails today by being overly spiritualized, not attending enough to the soulful needs of the body. Don't make it seem like a sin to desire what the body needs! Christ returned in a body and one of the first things he did was tend to the carnal NEED of his followers in grilling fish for them to be nourished.

MONEY
Churches are not hypocrites for including donating money with every service. Money is the life blood of any organization - including churches. It drives most of the practical decision making.

SIGNIFICANCE
1 Corinthians 7:23 God paid a great price for you. He wouldn't have done that if we weren't significant. In the field of psychology, it is well understood that being significant to someone is vital to well being.

POWER
Again with psychological well being, try telling a rape victim overcoming the trauma they don't have the power of setting personal boundaries regarding self determination and consent. These are not selfish, sinful carnal desires but carnal NEEDS that need priority attention. It's hard to think about the nuanced aspects of God's esoteric eternal plan when one is in a war zone or about to freeze to death, right?

adopted a clergy/laity ...
We have established an authoritative model

The master-student dynamic is tried and true. Hierarchy exists for good reason, not just among men but God and his son. 1 Corinthians 11:3. God is a God of order 1 Corinthians 14:33. We are called to do different things and while that may look like disunity, it is actually the same body performing different functions precisely for the one purpose you wrote so eloquently about.

God is seeking those who live from the reality of heavenly places, who are not absorbed by earthly concerns

Not absorbed by earthly concerns? Paul said if you don't work, you should not eat! That's an earthly concern. Christ commanded us not to worry about such things but it must be our concern as James wrote at 2:14-26 What good is it, my brothers and sisters, if someone claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save them? 15 Suppose a brother or a sister is without clothes and daily food. 16 If one of you says to them, “Go in peace; keep warm and well fed,” but does nothing about their physical needs, what good is it? 17 In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.

I leave you with this. Psalm 127:1 (CEV) Without the help of the LORD it is useless to build a home or to guard a city. Building a home and guarding a city are earthly concerns. 1 Corinthians 7:19, 24 The important thing is to obey God's commands. 20 So don't try to change what you were when God chose you ... Stay what you were when God chose you. And of course, the "staying" is absorbed in doing Earthly concerns. The unity stemming from the eternal purpose is not in WHAT we do - here on Earth to make it better - but HOW we do it, with the Spirit of God.
