The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law.

The sting of sinning against God is death to the soul.

The power of the law is to tell sinners how they are sinning against God, by knowing assuredly what God says is sinning against Him.

Before the law of God written on earth, man did not know exactly whether they were sinning against God or not, and so in ignorance they all were sinning against God, and so death passed upon all souls of men who were sinning ignorantly, having no law of God for them to read and do.

For as many as have sinned without law shall also perish without law: and as many as have sinned in the law shall be judged by the law.

Therefore by mercy to perishing sinners, Christ has given His law Personally to His people and the world, that His people and the world of sinners can now know of a certain exactly what is sinning against God.

All people, whether sinners or saints, ought therefore thank God every day for showing us exactly what sinning against Him is, that by repentance of sinning against His law, our souls might not end in death without God ignorantly.

I hate vain thoughts: but thy law do I love.

Lovers of God and His righteousness, love His law for telling us what is not righteous with Him, but is only vain thought and imagination for sinning against Him.

Those who hate righteousness and love the vanity of sinning instead, of course hate His law, and wish His law were dead.

The fool hath said in his heart, there is no law of God.

For until the law sin was in the world: but sin is not imputed when there is no law.

Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over them that had not sinned after the similitude of Adam's transgression, who is the figure of him that was to come.

Since we know them without the law perish, then we see here that not being imputed sin, is not being free from judgment of sinning, but rather is not having knowledge of sin, though sinning still reigns unto death.

I.e. ignorance of the law is no excuse with God: the soul that sins is dead, whether the sinner knows it or not, nor how the sinner sinned.

Imputed sin by the law therefore is not causing man to sin, nor causing men to be judged for sinning, where they somehow would not be judged otherwise.

Before the law, sinners against God without knowledge of His law, were still sinning and perishing without God: they were not free of being judged by God while sinning against Him.

Imputed sin by the law therefore is given sure knowledge of sin against God, by now knowing His own law written on earth, and so the Mercy of God is His written law by which we are imputed His sure knowledge of what sinning against Him truly is.

Those who don't want judgment for sinning imputed to them by the law of God, rather than repent of sinning against God; therefore, hate His law and seek to do away with His law entirely, so that without any law at all, there can be no sinning against God at all, and no judgement of death for sinning at all, though they still go on sinning against God all the time. Or at least time to time.

Obeying the law keeps us out of trouble. Some people are so focused on the afterlife, they don't think about this life.
