Here is the best way to teach a Legalist or a New Christian how to understand WHY Demas is now in Heaven.

"when we were yet UNGODLY, Christ died for us..."

"to You that WORKETH NOT< but believeth on GOD who JUSTIFIES THE UNGODLY"....."your FAITH is COUNTED as GOD's Righteousness". This is the "Gift of Righteousness".

So, when God saved us, we were dead in sin, and unholy.

The Blood Atonement does not make later exceptions, once it has eternally redeemed a living Soul by the process of "new birth".

We are put into the Spirit of God, by "spiritual birth", not by performance. We the born again have become an "heir of God," and a "joint Heir of Jesus", not because we are good or bad, but because of Jesus's SACRIFICE of BLOOD and Death.

Lets say you are born and you have a mother who birthed you into this world. Now,... go and rob banks, kill children, drink blood, worship Satan, and, then kill your parents.

So....did any of that behavior stop you from .. 1. Being Born? 2. Being your mother's Son?

And why? Its because your birth is not OF YOU.......so, what you do later with your LIFE/Behavior can't undo your BIRTH or your Status as "her son"

Likewise, your "new birth" "in Christ", is NOT of you. And you are IN God's family, NOT because of you.

You are a SON of GOD, by = NEW BIRTH thru CHRIST......... and so, you have the rest of your life to determine if you are a good Son of God or a very pathetic Son of God, but, a SON YOU WILL REMAIN, says the Blood Atonement.

Here is a final thought for you...

When God saved you, that day you were born again....> He knew already every sin you will commit AFTER you are born again, right until the day you die.....and YET< .. God saved you anyway. Notice that?

Zion, God saved you while KNOWING you would SIN MORE after He did........and He SAVED YOU ANYWAY.

And its the same with DEMAS and all the other Born Again.

"not by works of righteousness that we have done, but according to GOD'S MERCY, = HE SAVED US"..

And if and when the new born son of God refuses the Lord's chastisement, what then?

"For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth.
If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not?
But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons." Heb 12:6-8

relationship vs fellowship

if a person have a child and the child grows up and robs a bank, correct the "relationship" do not change, that Parent is still that childs parent. and that child is still that parent child. THAT "RELATIONSHIP" will never change. but a child don't stay a child for ever, for if the child grows up, and then Robs a bank, and other things, as said the "RELATIONSHIP" changes NOT, but the "FELLOWSHIP" in that "RELATIONSHIP" is broken.

so just because one is born into a ... just for argument sake ... a rich Family, when the Law is broken restution is demanded. and as our brother amadeus pointed out GOD don't have babe babe kids running around. chastisement is in the works. train up a child in the way it should Go, and it want depart from it.

so let us not think that just because our Father is the Judge, we can do anything we want, no, echoing amadeus, Proverbs 13:24 "He that spareth his rod hateth his son: but he that loveth him chasteneth him betimes". and our father is a LOVING Father, and he spareth not the Rod... Yes, of course it will stop you from being a son of God. Are you completely out of your mind?
God owes us nothing, if we spit in His face He will not remain silent, but disown us, and I hope so! We are not His sons by irrevocable genetics, lineage, ancestry or genealogy, the way that a biological parent is, but simply because He has deemed us so by a Covenant, and nothing else. If we break that Covenant, that is, not live up to our part of the deal, then the grounds for the relationship and fellowship have been broken.
Don't mock God's wisdom, justice and austerity!
