But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

We see that having faith toward God is only the first move toward God and the reward of God.

Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God,

For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of.

We see that repenting of dead works is the only first move toward having faith in God and being rewarded with His salvation.

Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ.

Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered; And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him;

The gospel of Jesus Christ is to repent of sins and trespasses, in order to have faith toward God to obey and serve Him (instead of sin), and be rewarded with the inheritance of eternal salvation of God.

For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.

Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;

By repenting of dead works to have faith toward God, we are rewarded with His free gift of saving faith. By grace we do not have to pay the price of death toward God for past sins, because Jesus paid that price in blood by death on His cross.

Saving faith by grace is not a reward of works, but only of repenting from dead works for Jesus' sake. Salvation of God is not a work of man to be boasted of, but a free reward by God not to be repented of.
