[Matthew 5:1 KJV] 1 And seeing the multitudes, he went up into a mountain: and when he was set, his disciples came unto him:

This is called the sermon on the mount and the beatitudes.

The disciples of Jesus came unto him to hear his teaching.

[Mat 5:3 KJV] 3 Blessed [are] the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Jesus was teaching the attributes of those who would inherit the kingdom of heaven. The kingdom of heaven is the prophetic Davidic kingdom on earth in which Christ will reign for a thousand years (Luke 1:32-33).

[Mat 5:5 KJV] 5 Blessed [are] the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.

Believing Israel has an inheritance on the earth (Genesis 28:4 Psalm 37:29). The body of Christ will inherit the heavenly places (1 Corinthians 15:50 Ephesians 1:3).

[Mat 5:10 KJV] 10 Blessed [are] they which are persecuted for righteousness' sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

The righteous will enter the kingdom on earth (Matthew 5:20).

[Mat 5:19-20 KJV] 19 Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach [them], the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven. 20 For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed [the righteousness] of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven.

To enter the kingdom Israel had to be righteous by keeping the law. To be noted is Christ says, one of the commandments was broken, not all; to the degree they were righteous determines their position in the kingdom.

[Mat 5:21-22 KJV] 21 Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not kill; and whosoever shall kill shall be in danger of the judgment: 22 But I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment: and whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the council: but whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of hell fire.

The principles of the kingdom have been elevated to show the extent and intent of the law. It is to be noted that Christ was not saying not to be angry, but not to be angry without cause.

[Mat 5:31-32 KJV] 31 It hath been said, Whosoever shall put away his wife, let him give her a writing of divorcement: 32 But I say unto you, That whosoever shall put away his wife, saving for the cause of fornication, causeth her to commit adultery: and whosoever shall marry her that is divorced committeth adultery.

Christ was not saying fornication could be used to justify and permit divorce. He was saying that putting away your wife, who would marry another, would cause both to commit adultery. He was only saying that the wife couldn't be caused to commit adultery by marrying another because before the divorce, she already committed adultery on her own.

[Mat 5:39, 42, 44 KJV] 39 But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also. ... 42 Give to him that asketh thee, and from him that would borrow of thee turn not thou away. ... 44 But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;

These were all principles to be exhibited in the earthly kingdom by believing Israel.
