4. The Thyatirean Candlestick: Catholic Church Age (Charlemagne)

The Thyatirean Church age began with Charlemagne, who was a champion for the cause of Christianity. Appalled by the illiteracy of his time, Charlemagne imported scholars from Ireland, Britain, and Italy. Out of these schools were to arise the universities of Europe. In 787, Charlemagne issued to all the bishops and abbots of France a historic Capitulare de litteris colendis, or directive on the study of letters. It reproached ecclesiastics for “uncouth language” and exhorted every cathedral and monastery to establish schools where clergy and laity alike might learn to read and write. A further capitulary of 789 urged the directors of these schools to “take care to make no difference between the sons of serfs and of freemen, so that they might come and sit on the same benches to study grammar, music, and arithmetic.” So the church began great in works, charity, service, and faith. Upon this foundation was the Thyatira church built. It was too bad we would not see any more Charlemagne’s during this church age.

“And unto the angel of the church in Thyatira write; These things saith the Son of God, who hath his eyes like unto a flame of fire, and his feet are like fine brass; I know thy works, and charity, and service, and faith, and thy patience, and thy works; and the last to be more than the first. Notwithstanding I have a few things against thee, because thou sufferest that woman Jezebel, which calleth herself a prophetess, to teach and seduce my servants to commit fornication, and to eat things sacrificed unto idols. And I gave her space to repent of her fornication; and she repented not. Behold, I will cast her into a bed, and them that commit adultery with her into great tribulation, except they repent of their deeds. And I will kill her children with death; and all the churches shall know that I am he which searcheth the reins and hearts: and I will give unto every one of you according to your works. But unto you I say, and unto the rest in Thyatira, as many as have not this doctrine, and which have not known the depths of Satan, as they speak; I will put upon you none other burden. But that which ye have already hold fast till I come. And he that overcometh, and keepeth my works unto the end, to him will I give power over the nations: And he shall rule them with a rod of iron; as the vessels of a potter shall they be broken to shivers: even as I received of my Father. And I will give him the morning star.” - Revelation 2:18 - 28

The metaphors of this passage…

1. Jezebel - http://www.christian...jezebel-spirit/ Jiggyfly did and excellent little write up on the Jezebel spirit. The spirit of Jezebel is to control and dominate. In which the people of this time were ruthless, setting up great inquisitions and persecutions to those they saw as heretic. This happened to be at its worse during the Catholic age, who were ruthless. A spirit of Jezebel can also true in our age. Whenever someone comes into a church with a spirit to dominate know that the spirit of Jezebel has revived herself.

2. Fornication – Sexual immorality… Again, not Catholic unique.

3. Idols - Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry: - Colossians 3:5 biblically speaking covetous itself is idolatry, so again, not Catholic unique.

Charlemagne gave the church so much power with the edicts of his lifetime that the church age became corrupt to the point that it was compared to the evil woman Jezebel. The church began persecutions from denying folks communion to setting up great inquisitions. “Which have not known the depths of Satan” may refer to Dante Alighieri, who terrified Europe with his writings. The church became just as ruthless as the pagans before them in the arts of death and torture. The great tribulation came about in 1347, in which the Black Death killed an estimated 25% of the European population. Thyatira means to “blow smoke” in the Greek, possibly because of the darkness the Thyatireans would bring into the lives of others.

The Catholic church is the fourth age of the apocalypse and very much Christian.

Out of respect for the Catholics on this board... I hope I was fair.

Hi rockyopva , and this is what I see concerning , who the context and who Revelation was written to .

When the bible was being formed into one book by the early church fathers , many of them thought that the book of the Revelation should not be included in the canon of scripture . Because the authorship of John was disputed , and the major point of contention being the message to the Church in Thyatira .

There Was No Church At Thyatira At That Time .

How could John write to a Church that didn't exist ?

One of the Church fathers , Epiphanius ( who wrote about the year 367 AD ) suggested that this Church would be in existence at some future time . We believe that he was correct , and this future time is the Tribulation period .

This is mone proof that Revelatio0n ch2 and 3 are yet future .

Nowhere is the Body of Christ mentioned in the Revelation at all or christians for that matter .

Revelation , and the first 3 chapters are a summary of Israel failures and the Song of Solomon portrary Israels history from the begining of that nation .,

We see that Israel is promised to be Kings and Priests during the 1000 REIGN of Christ , Rev 1:6 , dan p
