Behold, this was the iniquity of thy sister Sodom, pride, fulness of bread, and abundance of idleness was in her and her daughters, neither did she strengthen the hand of the poor and needy. And they were haughty, and committed abomination before me: therefore I took them away as I saw good. - Ezekiel 16:49-50

1. Pride
2. Gluttony
3. Laziness
4. Uncharitable

And to make the long story short... They found nothing else better to do.

We have a lot of this in society in general. Lack of helping one another. Yet there are many who do help others. Our society is set up to help the hungry and poor and disabled but it lacks in one area. I see homeless crazy people all the time. I have a mental disability and also couldn't get on disability. They are denying disability for the mentally disabled and that will bring a curse upon the USA and probably has been.

You pretty much have to be cheating the system to benefit from it. If you legitimately need help, good luck.

Fortunately for me, I guess, I had a history of depression, including multiple hospitalizations in my teens and twenties, and had been on and off disability for much of my adult life.
Together with a work-related spinal chord injury and workplace-induced Lupus, I've had no problem being classified as a disabled person...except by the church. I think this song goes along with the thread. Co-incidentally, I happened to have it right here!

They committed abomination as one of their sins, per your Ezekiel 16 text:

Behold, this was the iniquity of thy sister Sodom, pride, fulness of bread, and abundance of idleness was in her and her daughters, neither did she strengthen the hand of the poor and needy. And they were haughty, and committed abomination before me: therefore I took them away as I saw good. - Ezekiel 16:49-50

This kind of abomination:

Lev 20:13 If a man lies with a male as with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination; they shall surely be put to death; their blood is upon them.

Jude confirms that sodom was destroyed for homosexuality:

ISV:

Jud 1:7 Likewise, Sodom and Gomorrah and the cities near them, which like them committed sexual sins and pursued homosexual activities, serve as an example of the punishment of eternal fire.

Genesis has the account of their homosexual activities and wanting sex with Lots male guests:

Gen 19:4 Before they could lay down, all the men of Sodom and its outskirts, both young and old, surrounded the house.

Gen 19:5 They called out to Lot and asked, "Where are the men who came to visit you tonight? Bring them out to us so we can have sex with them!" ISV

Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he. - Proverbs 29:18

It is important that a healthy vision is pursued.

Isn't that what the people on welfare are doing and those cheating the unemployment system because they are getting an extra 600 hundred bucks on top of their unemployment checks, instead of looking for work?

Point being… Unrighteousness begins something like…

1. Pride
2. Gluttony
3. Laziness
4. Uncharitable

Not at all as obvious evil. It may take a generation or two, but it can end up into something seen in Sodom and Gomorrah.

I think it is convenient to say that the sin of Sodom was homosexuality...it takes the focus off of self-worship.
"Now this was the sin of your sister Sodom: She and her daughters were arrogant, overfed and unconcerned; they did not help the poor and needy." - Ezekiel 16:49

I think it is like something out of the Twilight Zone that so many on all Christian Forums constantly work together to water-down the most striking and relevant Truths of God's Word.

For those of us with Eyes To See, it is a constant reminder of who actually runs these Forums.

"Go to now, ... weep and HOWL for your miseries that shall come upon you."
James 5:1

“Beware of false prophets, who ... inwardly are ravenous wolves.
You will recognize them by their fruits."
Matthew 7:15

" ... the devil prowls around ... seeking whom he may devour.
1 Peter 5:8

It's not that convenient because Genesis and Jude both focus on the sexual sins of Sodom as being the chief reason for its destruction. If Sodom wasn't deep into the sexual sins, it can probably be speculated that God wouldn't have punished Sodom in such a spectacular fashion.

When Christ talked about the sins of the Pre-Flood world in Matt. 24, He mentioned sexual sins as being a chief reason for its destruction, even though murder and other sins were being committed. The same is done in regards to David, albeit to a lesser degree. David committed plenty of other sins, but the one scripture really focuses on was the sexual sin he committed with Bathsheba. All sin offends God, but there has to be a reason why God inspired the writers to focus on someone's sexual sins like this.

Notice how I started my statement with, "I think." Unless you are trying to create strife, I'd suggest you try it.

They committed abomination as one of their sins, per the rest of your Ezekiel 16 text, which you didn’t seem to want to include:

Behold, this was the iniquity of thy sister Sodom, pride, fulness of bread, and abundance of idleness was in her and her daughters, neither did she strengthen the hand of the poor and needy. And they were haughty, and committed abomination before me: therefore I took them away as I saw good. - Ezekiel 16:49-50

It’s clear to me that the scriptures focus on homosexuality being the reason for the destruction of Sodom.

"which you didn’t seem to want to include:" Curtis, please don't put words into my mouth.
For decades, the church led me to believe that THE reason Sodom was destroyed was because they were gay. When I realized what the truth was, I also realized that I had not been fully-informed. In other words, I'd been deceived.
Do you really want to go on about who's arrogant, overfed, and unconcerned?
I'm more concerned about doing what Yeshua said to do, "Love your neighbor as yourself," and "He who is without sin, cast the first stone."
"…9But if you show favoritism, you sin and are convicted by the law as transgressors. 10 Whoever keeps the whole law but stumbles at just one point is guilty of breaking all of it. 11For He who said, “Do not commit adultery,” also said, “Do not murder.” If you do not commit adultery, but do commit murder, you have become a lawbreaker.…" James 2:10
I am no more worthy, in and of myself, than anyone else. Shalom.

People haven't learned or taken heed to the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah, look at all the filth being displayed nowadays, with the pornography that is easily accessible online, from rape porn, to extreme porn barely legal porn, bestiality you name it, our youth have such easy access to it now more than ever, back in the day Porn was illegal, to see it you had to get it it illegally or buy Playboy if you wanted to see a naked woman, now it's everywhere, even when you go to the mall you have Victoria's Secret stores with scantly clad women fringing on the border of soft core pornography, our young kids see this.

We have not learned from Sodom and Gomorrah, we've gotten worse than ever before, I read a story on yahoo news where Pornhub I think the name is, one of the largest Porn sites on the internet just got law suited because they weren't screening the porn actresses and they were displaying porn movies with underage girls and allowing underage girls to perform on their site.

Why do our governments allow this kind of filth to be legal and not ban it and go after these people like they use to back in the old days and arrest them?

I fear for our youth, please screen your kids computer if you have kids, don't let them access this filth, I hear porn is very addictive and has an effect on a person's brain where they don't function normally if they can't get their porn fix, this is serious stuff.

We haven't learned our lesson from Sodom and Gomorrah, instead we offend God with one of the greatest abominations, pornography and sex without being married.

It's a disgrace in today's society, you can't drive down the highway without seeing billboards advertising all nude strip clubs, sex expos you name it.

I wish the wrath of God would wipe all of this filth out just as he did in Sodom and Gomorrah.
