It is a mistake to tell a man devoid of the Holy Spirit ( the Unsaved Man, in other words ) to “stop sinning”......It is God’s Holy Spirit that compels one to hate and abandon sin or to even have the “ Desire” to abandon sin, much less have any Power to do anything about it.....

Don’t tell the Unregenerate Man to “ stop sinning”——- Better to tell him, “ Start BELIEVING !”
Start Believing the Gospel Of 1Cor15:1-4 and “ that” will get you God’s Holy Spirit which must be at the Root Of NOT “Change”—- But Transformation! That “Inside Of the Cup” thing that you may have heard about....Trust God to “ Finish the Work that He started”.....Men can always “ turn over a New Leaf” and Change .....Only God can Transform, and THAT is what you need....” Let go and let God”...... that takes Faith....

After salvation the Christian needs to stop living sinfully in the same manner as the unconverted do, and walk in the light, as He is in the light.

The non Christian has to repent of sins and change their mind about it, when the HS convicts then of that sin, as part of the Acts 20:21 requirement of having repentance towards God AND faith towards Jesus.

When one first believes and turns to Christ in repentance, their journey has begun. Repentance is a walk.
As a new believer, one needs to be discipled by a disciple-maker. One does not automatically stop sinning.
Sanctification is a process of confession and repentance. This happens in relationships with others.
One does not need to stop sinning in order to be saved. One will sin less and less as a result of being saved, if discipled.
Spiritual rebirth is instantaneous. Sanctification of the soul is a process.
It's in the bible. Know the truth and the truth will set you free. Alternately, My people perish for lack of knowledge.
Love, peace, joy in the Holy Spirit enables this to happen.
- The gospel of Christ, as I understand it. :)

So what does that look like ?? LOL Do you sin only 1/3 as much as the unconverted??
Do good and be good... Where have I heard this before??

After salvation... the Christian should turn their attention away from sin and onto CHRIST.... and all HIS glorious promises. He should spend his/her life filled with thanksgiving and gratitude... He should spend his/her waking hours marvelling at HOW GREAT THOU ART... and how weak I am.

The believer who knows they are nothing... can do nothing... and are in FULL NEED of CHRIST are the ones who carry on to live SPIRIT-filled and JOYFUL lives filled to overflowing with PEACE. Their lives become a submissive offering to the Lord.

The believer who remains SIN-FOCUSED remains stuck in the cycle of guilt... shame... and misery... they gauge their progress by comparing themselves to others... and they harshly judge and condemn others.

Both perspectives bear fruit... one rotten and the other sweet.

Hello to you @Blood Bought 1953 .... So nice to see you... This is like old times.

You believe what you want, I’ll believe the Bible, which tells the believer they are required to walk in the light as He is in the light, , to take up their cross daily, that they are not their own, they’ve been bought with a price, that presenting their bodies a Holy, acceptable unto God living sacrifice Is their reasonable service, that their sanctification is to avoid sexual sins, and to be not conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of their mind, that judgment begins first with the household of God, and that if they walk according to fleshly lusts as believers they will die spiritualyl, for starters - and that if we confess our sins as believers, they are forgiven. .

I’ll believe the Bible
I do believe the bible... It is filled with PROMISES for the BELIEVER... We are called to walk in the light indeed... but to focus on HIM... not on sin and each other.... Different results.... different quality of life... Legalism ( focusing on our behaviour ) always leads to self... me.. me.. me...
Focusing on HIM always leads to God.... and thus a spirit filled relationship.
I don't know what you believe exactly... but I quoted your post because it expresses cleaning yourself up.... and being good... that never works... and it is an insult to God.

Moral self-reformation or behavior modification is not a substitute for regeneration for the unregenerate man.

Hello Bloodbought,

You remind me of my first time of being a Christian. Would judge and condemn people in my mind, thoughts of judgement constantly went through of mind. Though continuing to following God and trusting Christ, my life has changed. Am less judgmental because looking back on how use to be when first a Christian; I did not like myself very much because of those things but though that it was right. Thank God, a teacher came about through Gods means, and taught me how wrong I truly was.

There are several people in the Forums who frequently say that they Never listen to God - Given Teachers .....it shows...

The Bible can be a very dangerous Book—- look what Catholics and Mormons and Jehovah’s Witnesses have done with the very same words that we have been reading for years....

The Bible says that God has sent us His Gifted Teachers to help us “Rightly Divide” the Word Of God.....Stiff- Neck , Proud and Confused people ignore these “ Gift” from God to their own detriment...

Here's why the Bible 100 disagrees with you:

"Therefore, if an uncircumcised man keeps the righteous requirements of the law, will not his uncircumcision be counted as circumcision?" - Rom. 2:26

“And we are His witnesses to these things, and so also is the Holy Spirit whom God has given to those who obey Him.” - Acts 5:32

Those passages show:

1. Someone without God's Spirit is capable of living by the last 6 of God's commandments to varying degrees, even if they don't believe God exists. Plenty of people without the Holy Spirit can agree that it's bad to lie, murder, steal, and have extramarital affairs without picking up a bible. There is also the matter that plenty of Gentiles and Israelites in the OT were shown having a sense of what was right or wrong even if they didn't have God's Spirit. The incidents in Genesis where the Pharaohs avoided committing adultery with Sarah and Rebekah proves this. So to say a person is completely incapable of leading comparatively moral lives without God's Spirit goes against everything the Bible shows and teaches.

2. Acts 5:32 doesn't say God's Holy Spirit is given to people who believe". That's some of that watered down "gospel" teaching that is part of this world's brand of Christianity. God's apostle Peter said the Holy Spirit is given to people who OBEY God. 1 Cor. 15:1-4 does not guarantee somebody will receive the Holy Spirit, especially because Paul was discussing Christ's part in the gospel and the gospel itself as being 2 separate subjects altogether. There is nothing in that passage about receiving the Holy Spirit.

The idea that a unsaved person doesn't need to stop sinning is just another lawless gospel. The Bible says in the NT that God expects EVERYONE to repent.

You talk about a “ Lawless Gospel ?” You had better BELIEVE it! “ By The LAW, *NO* Flesh shall be Justified.....read more about your esteemed “ Law” in the next post.....

And it is indeed True That everyone MUST Repent in order to be Saved.....you just have to understand that to Repent means to have a change of mind.....one can repent of “ Sins” until the cows come home , but Nowhere in the KJV does it say that “ repenting of sins” is God's Plan Of Salvation .....God's Plan Of Salvation is to simply “ BELIEVE in the One that He sent” ......REST in the Gospel Of 1 Cor15:1-4 and you are Saved....Repenting Of Sins Without Trusting Jesus as your ONLY means of Salvation ( irregardless Of your “ repenting Of sin abilities” ) is a recipe for Damnation....

Many Christians give lip service to the fact they live in the New Covenant.

The truth however is that because they fail to realise they are no longer under the law they are really still living in an Old Covenant reality.

Here are 37 scriptures that prove that Christians are not under the law!

Acts
The law is an unbearable yoke. (Acts 15:10)

Romans
The law reveals sin but cannot fix it. (Romans 3:20)

If the law worked then faith would be irrelevant. (Romans 4:14)

The law brings wrath upon those who follow it. (Romans 4:15)

The purpose of the law was to increase sin. (Romans 5:20)

Christians are not under the law. (Romans 6:14)

Christians have been delivered from the law. (Romans 7:1-6)

The law is good, perfect and holy but cannot help you be good, perfect or holy. (Romans 7:7-12)

The law which promises life only brings death through sin. (Romans 7:10)

The law makes you sinful beyond measure. (Romans 7:13)

The law is weak. (Romans 8:2-3)

1 Corinthians
The strength of sin is the law (1 Corinthians 15:56)

2 Corinthians
The law is a ministry of death. (2 Corinthians 3:7)

The law is a ministry of condemnation. (2 Corinthians 3:9)

The law has no glory at all in comparison with the New Covenant. (2 Corinthians 3:10)

The law is fading away. (2 Corinthians 3:11)

Anywhere the law is preached it produces a mind-hardening and a heart-hardening veil. (2 Corinthians 3:14-15)

Galatians
The law justifies nobody. (Galatians 2:16)

Christians are dead to the law. (Galatians 2:19)

The law frustrates grace. (Galatians 2:21)

To go back to the law after embracing faith is “stupid”. (Galatians 3:1)

The law curses all who practice it and fail to do it perfectly. (Galatians 3:10)

The law has nothing to do with faith. (Galatians 3:11-12)

The law was a curse that Christ redeemed us from. (Galatians 3:13)

The law functioned in God’s purpose as a temporary covenant from Moses till John the Baptist announced Christ. (Galatians 3:16 & 19, also see… Matthew 11:12-13, Luke 16:16)

If the law worked God would have used it to save us. (Galatians 3:21)

The law was our prison. (Galatians 3:23)

The law makes you a slave like Hagar. (Galatians 4:24)

Ephesians
Christ has abolished the law which was a wall of hostility (Ephesians 2:15)

Philippians
Paul considered everything the law gained him as “skybalon” which is Greek for “poop”. (Philippians 3:4-8)

1 Timothy
The law is only good if used in the right context. (1 Timothy 1:8) (see next verse for the context)

It was made for the unrighteous but not for the righteous. (1 Timothy 1:9-10)

Hebrews
The law is weak, useless and makes nothing perfect. (Hebrews 7:18-19)

God has found fault with it and created a better covenant, enacted on better promises. (Hebrews 8:7-8)

It is obsolete, growing old and ready to vanish. (Hebrews 8:13)

It is only a shadow of good things to come and will never make someone perfect. (Hebrews 10:1)

Well there you have it… 37 scriptures that make a very convincing arguement.

You use the words “ be transformed” .....you fail to understand that even though “ any” man can “ turn over a New Leaf” and make himself more Moral by doing all of those good things you suggest.....only GOD can TRANSFORM a man.....that would be the “ changing of the the INSIDE of the Cup” .....you may have heard about that.....” Change” is something a Man can do......”TRANSFORMATION?” —- that’s something only God can do...... and He will do it—- *IF* you Trust Him......
I quoted what scripture says about believers.

Peter says we have to make our calling and election sure, by adding to our faith fruit such as Godliness. i know that’s an inconvenient fact for you, but it’s a biblical fact, nevertheless.

No added fruit, leaves an unsure calling and election, and you can fall.

Scripture says our sanctification is to avoid sexual sin.

You might try reading the New Testament verse by verse and chapter by chapter, so you can learn things that you never learn from someone’s proof text theology.
