No ancestors of mine owned any slaves in over 200 years. However, since half my family came from Sweden and Finland, it is possible they did own them or were slaves during the Viking times. The other half is Irish and English. My great grandfather was a rich landowner farmer in Finland, but he made bad business choices, he loaned out monies which did not get paid back, lost the family estate, and left my grandmother impoverished to take care of 10 siblings as her mother was too weak from TB to help much after he died of TB. As soon as she could at 16, she went to work for her rich aunt in America who also left Sweden after winning the Swedish National lottery. She came over on the boat my Finnish grandfather worked on repairing the engines, and both entered through Ellis Island. My grandfather fought in the Finnish Civil War on the white side, enlisting at 15, and was put in charge of a 'platoon' of men as he was the only one who could read.
