I love reading my Bible but I have no illusions that this is a library of 66 books written by lots of different people that consists of the words of men, the words of God and the words of the devil. So Im a little confused why religious people call it the Word Of God, clearly it isn't.

I recognize that it contains some powerful truth, as do many spiritual books, but it also contains stories and instructions that are not relevant for us today. Like stoning our daughter because she had sex outside marriage, and killing people because they were on land we wanted. SICK.

As far as I'm aware Jesus was the word NOT THE BOOK

Yes 66 books written by almost as many authors from all walks of life, yet proclaiming the same message in the OT and in the NT.

You say it is the words of the devil, please provide your evidence for this.

Your confussed why the Bible is the word of God, it is the word of God on two counts.
One because that is what it claims to be.
Two because that is what it is proven to be. It is the only religious book that teaches us about Jesus.

Just to clarify my comments. I didn't say the Bible is the words of the devil, I said it contains the words of the devil, HUGE DIFFERENCE.

I can claim to be who ever I wish, but that doesn't make me so. There are lots of ways in which God is revealed, doesn't the Bible itself say that God is revealed through nature.

    I know, right?
I believe it is very apparent this stoning of a daughter or the other murderous,
savage, barbaric, childish, jealous, primitive things in the Bible are not of God...Who is Pure, Holy beyond imagination, Love, Brilliant,
Compassion, Long suffering, Generous beyond measure...and the maker of puppy breath.

Ha, generous...He places 2 people on earth ...2 pairs of lungs...and places an earth with more air than anyone would ever use!
He gives and loves until it overflows! As IF any of these stories of blood wanted and shed ever came from Him is preposterous.

Aaaand this is where people that read a book and people who know God up close and personal differ.
    But, whatever.
This is the Father that visits me...the Awesome One that is only True Love.
So could I believe the words of early men coming from their little, limited minds.?
    I could not, ever.
Not their fault...they came up basically from campfires and
and thinking God was a mean Guy in the Sky throwing lightning bolts at them...
being satisfied by virgins thrown into volcanoes!

Will people here get insulted by my words? Sure.
I used to be hurt that people thought these things of my Father...now, by His grace, I was shown...it's all ok...doesn't change Who He Is or His unquenchable compassion
    for us.

Again if you say the bible contains the words of the devil, that is messages from the devil, please provide your evidence that the devil speaks through the bible.

Yes you can claim to be who you like, but if you also supply the proof that you really are that person.
The bible provides evidence that it is the word of God.
Principly through Jesus being a historical person who died and who rose agin from the dead.

I'm not giving up. You're attacking His word but you are hungry and not stopping. Go ahead and chalk me up as a crazy person, I don't care. You're questioning every word of what God has said (through the word given to us) and it is not a bad thing. You seem like someone with the persistence to not give up until you have answers. Concrete ones that I can't give you. I'm going to try to respect that you don't want a page of bible verses but please consider the passage you spoke of as being "SICK" speaks of the
(Spiritual)Jerusalem and what God is going to do. God is teaching. Jesus Christ died without the gate of the city for those set without the gate. Those unclean and put out. Including this daughter being struck by stones(at Gods command); remember who He came for: those without the gate to bring them into a new city. In the OT, God is collecting a peculiar people, a people without. A people outside religion. Even the "spoils" of war is taken there.

    Deuteronomy 22:23-24
[23] If a damsel that is a virgin be betrothed unto an husband, and a man find her in the city, and lie with her; [24] Then ye shall bring them both out unto the gate of that city, and ye shall stone them with stones that they die; the damsel, because she cried not, being in the city; and the man, because he hath humbled his neighbour's wife: so thou shalt put away evil from among you.

You are already fully aware that attempting to disern it literally isn't going to work because it doesn't add up. Right? You are aware enough to know it and say it. Many won't admit it. At least you will. God speaks in tongues to us...With a pure language. I've seen you quote it: "He that has ears to hear, let him hear." It is something that can't be taught but if you keep going, God will give you what you want.

    Mark 16:16-17
    [16] He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. [17] And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;

on the surface they are useful for portraying the failure of law, and symbolically they are still relevant because you have spiritual "daughters" that should not be "marrying outside" in a sense, see. That men, or "sons," are never stoned for what should logically be perceived as the same offense is a clue imo to the real nature of the intent of the passage, once the symbolism of "daughters" is understood; iow these are not--or at least it is not required to perceive them as--actual people, but symbolic "children," and daughters are different from sons bc they are birthed from different natures, a "daughter" would in this model be birthed from the natural, a son from the spiritual

although i guess you would still surely be upset by one of your daughters marrying a ______, right, so see, it still works on all the levels

There are some people here who would agree with you in part. What more than that can you expect anywhere you go? Personally I carefully avoid calling the written scriptures, the Word of God and I am not alone in that though we are likely the minority on this forum. Do you want to be in a place where you agree with most everyone on most every point?

The authors of scripture were God's penmen, not God's pen. They did not write down God's words verbatim. They wrote in their own words their understanding of the inspired thoughts and messages/visions/dreams etc that God gave. It was the prophets that were inspired, not what they wrote.
There are contradictions in the Bible. But they are easily understood when we acknowledge the different perspectives and writing styles of the various authors ...none of the contradictions invalidate the truths found therein, nor reduce or minimise their sacredness.

    Excellent...and to the point.
So many seem to worship it at it as if it is a fourth part of the Godhead.
To me that is close to idolatry.
Some would rather spend time with The Book, than with the Person and His Presence.

I agree Grace, but it must be said that many, "following the spirit" have supposedly been in God's presence, but because they don't use the Bible as their final authority, become diverted from truth. This can happen to individuals and to entire churches. There must be a balance, and all walking 'in the Spirit' must be validated by scripture...not the other way around...using scripture to validate our opinions.

    Funny though it says

Rom_8:14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.

1Jn_5:6 This is he that came by water and blood, even Jesus Christ; not by water only, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit that beareth witness, because the Spirit is truth.

And that is how we know it is true, not because it is written but because God bears witness to that what is true. Look at BOL quotes the bible everyday, and if one was not careful to see how he tiwsts it all, one could quiet easily fall into his trap. Too many follow after teh bible when they are supposed to be following after Jesus. Other wise I quiet agree.

@brakelite and @mjrhealth - you are both correct. Just add both your responses together and you get the better picture.

    Bless you bros,

And that is how revelation works. Not one prophet had the full picture, but in conjunction with others, the gospel was made known to Israel...albeit they, despite claiming to be faithful students of scripture, failed to see Jesus in scripture.

Thats an interesting thought, but not sure I agree with this particular thought. Would you care to explain how you came up with this conclusion?

That is indeed a good point, and I agree with that.
