Matthew 5:4, the good life belongs to those who grieve, for they will be comforted. Grief, people who experience life in a constant state of grieving, because they’re experiencing death and loss. Comfort, the New Jerusalem is on its way, that will be the comfort for those who grieve and mourn. Comfort after grief, means to experience some new experience, some new restored kind of life after a prolonged period of loss and grief over death. Job was in a state of grieving, but by the end, his circumstances are all reversed and restored and that’s his comfort. A state of grieving can be waiting for the restoration and the fulfillment of God’s promises. When you don’t have power, sometimes you’re just stuck having to grieve when your city is in a state worth grieving over, it’s an appropriate twin to the impoverished in spirit, being powerless, paradoxically it will make you sad.
The truth is, many believers live as if God exists to support their lifestyle, instead of realizing that their life exists to serve his purpose, that shift in perspective changes everything, because when God truly becomes first, something powerful happens. Your priorities change, you stop asking, how will this make me feel and start asking, does this honor God. You stop chasing comfort and start pursuing obedience and with that shift comes stability, faith begins to strengthen, not because life gets easier, but because our foundation gets deeper. Jesus never promised a problem free live, he promised presence, provision and peace in the middle of life’s storms, but those promises are experienced most fully, when he is given full authority in your life.
A lot of people say they trust God, but they still live as if everything depends on them, they stress, worry and overthink, because they haven’t released control. True faith requires letting go, not emotionally, but practically, because when you truly believe God’s word, you act on it, even when it feels uncomfortable. You choose obedience, even when it costs you something, you trust God not only with eternal salvation, but with daily life and this is where many believers get stuck. You believe enough to be saved, but not enough to be transformed, you know God can forgive sin, but you don’t believe he can change habits. You believe God can get you to heaven, but you don’t believe he can lead your decisions here on earth, that kind of faith keeps people trapped.
Living with God first brings clarity, it doesn’t remove challenges, but it removes confusion, you may not know exactly how things will work out, but you know who you trust and that trust produces peace, not the absence of problems, but confidence in the middle of them. This is what Jesus meant when he asked, why are you afraid, you of little faith? Fear grows, when God shrinks in your thinking, faith grows when God is given his rightful place. The Christian life isn’t about feelings or vibes, it’s about living according to truth, but instead, we read self-help books, blogs, news articles and watch endless videos. The word Bible literally means many books, it is God’s Word breathed out by him to reveal truth to us, 2 Timothy 3:16, that’s the goal, completeness, maturity, stability, but if we don’t read it, we don’t gain knowledge and without knowledge we don’t gain wisdom and without wisdom we can’t clearly tell the difference between what’s coming from our soul, our emotions, our reactions and what’s coming from the Spirit of God.
A lack of biblical knowledge lived out in daily life, Hosea 4:6, not because God abandoned them, not because the enemy was too strong, but because they didn’t know the truth well enough to stand on it. The sword of the Spirit, the sword isn’t our emotions, it’s not positive thinking, the sword is the Word of God empowered by the Spirit of God and its purpose is to cut to divide between soul and spirit. Hebrews 4:12, it pierces, exposing the thoughts and intentions of the heart, revealing what’s really driving us. Many Christians settle into a comfort zone, believing they’ve got their ticket to heaven, so they stop growing, because they stop studying. One of the biggest signs of spiritual immaturity is constant anxiety, every time something goes wrong, panic sets in and fear takes over and worry becomes the default response.
This is not how God intends his people to live, scripture actually gives us a picture of this kind of unstable faith, it’s like a boat with no rudder, drifting on the ocean pushed around by the wind. One moment we’re confident, the next moment we’re doubting everything, one good day we trust God, one bad day we fall apart. The reason isn’t always external pressure, often it’s internal stagnation. People get stuck, because they don’t do anything to grow, struggling with the same patterns, the same sins, the same fears and instead of asking what needs to change in me, they just repeat the cycle. Trust, real trust, not the kind we say out loud in church, but the kind we live by when life gets uncomfortable, but how many times does God need to prove himself to us? Scripture doesn’t change, God doesn’t change and his Word is consistent, yet some people have to learn the same lesson over and over again, because they refuse to fully trust what God has already said.
At some point we have to ask, when is enough, enough? People need to hear the hard truth, so they can actually change, because we can hear the same truth a hundred times and still stay the same, if we never act on it. Belief expressed through obedience, but hardships will always exist, challenges aren’’t going away, because life in this world is not problem free, but how many times does God need to teach us the same truth before it finally settles in our heart? Matthew 6:33, everyday needs, food, clothing, shelter, daily provision, but we still live like everything depends on us, God’s promise hasn’t changed and the condition hasn’t changed either, put him first, trust him fully.
The problem is rarely scripture, it’s not that God failed, the issue is often that we’re still being led by our emotions instead of by truth, emotions are unstable, shifting constantly. One day we feel strong, the next day we feel defeated, but faith grounded in God’s Word doesn’t move with feelings, it stands on truth. Deep down we still hold on to anxiety and stress, if we truly trusted God, those things wouldn’t dominate our life the way they do. The same pattern repeats, fear, doubt, worry, over and over again, doing the same thing repeatedly while expecting different results, is insanity. At some point we have to fully surrender, not partially, not emotionally, fully, because that’s where faith shifts from knowing about God, to actually relying on him.
