6:1 “What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound?
6:2 - Certainly not! How shall we who died to sin live any longer in it?”
6:6 “we should no longer be slaves of sin.”
6:11 “reckon yourselves to be dead indeed to sin”
6:12 “do not let sin reign in your mortal body,
that you should obey it in its lusts.”
6:13 “And do not present your members
as instruments of unrighteousness to sin”
6:14 “For sin shall not have dominion over you”
6:15 “What then? Shall we sin because we are not under law but under grace? Certainly not!”

Paul is rebuking these Roman believers because they are involved in habitual sin.
And that is what this chapter is all about.

He is giving them a dire warning about their habitual sinning
6:16 “Do you not know that to whom you present yourselves slaves to obey,
you are that one’s slaves whom you obey,
whether (slaves) of sin leading to (eternal) death,
or (slaves) of obedience leading to righteousness?"

Paul’s warning above agrees with many other NT warnings
“Blessed is the man who endures temptation; for when he has been approved,
he will receive the crown of (eternal) life which the Lord has promised to
those who love Him … when desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin;
and sin when it is full-grown, brings forth (eternal) death.
Do not be deceived, my beloved brethren.” (James 1:12-15)

Romans 8:5-6, Romans 8:13, Galatians 6:7-8, 1 Timothy 6:9-19, Hebrews 10:36-39,
1 Corinthians 6:9-10, Galatians 5:19-21, Ephesians 5:3-6, 2 Peter 1:10-11.
Please note: those who love Jesus obey Him (John 14:15,21,23, 1 John 5:3).

Then, Paul informs them of their potential
This is the condition they should be in (and perhaps technically who they really are).
6:18 “And having been set free from sin, you became slaves of righteousness.”
6:22 “But now having been set free from sin, and having become slaves of God,
you have your fruit to holiness, and the end, everlasting life.”

But, they are NOT fulfilling their calling …
they are NOT displaying the fruits from being slaves of righteousness, slaves of God.
They have forsaken their potential; instead, they have chosen to be slaves of sin!

Finally, Paul explains the 2 choices that every BAC has
6:23 “For the wages of sin is (eternal) death,
but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

BACs who choose to be habitual (unrepentant) sinners receive eternal death.
BACs who choose to NOT be habitual sinners receive eternal life.
BACs who are “overcomers” (defined in Revelation 3:21), confess their sins to God,
their sins are cleansed by Jesus’ precious blood, and they repent (stop doing them).

Please note
Paul writes very tactfully to the churches, as he mixes his dire warnings in
with his copious explanations, edifications, exhortations, encouragements, etc.
He wants the Holy Spirit to reveal his “somewhat hidden” truths.
And he wants to be welcome to visit these churches later, and
some babes in Christ are not ready to hear some of his unpopular truths.

No one believes that Romans 6 is critically important?
Who ARE you people anyway?
Because no one has posted a response to your OP have you then drawn a negative conclusion about all of us here? You did receive one "like". Was that then for naught? Who are you anyway?

.

I see Paul's point is that even though Christians are saved by grace that does not allow the Christian to continue in sin.

Therefore Paul's response to the idea that "grace alone" saves is "God forbid".

John says sin is transgression of God's law, so the only cure to habitually sinning is keeping the NT law of Christ, as Paul said he was under law to Christ (1 Corinthians 9:21). In Romans 6:16 Paul said each of us is serving one of two masters, we are serving either;
1) sin unto death
or
2) obedience unto righteousness.
If one one is not keeping Christ's NT law then one is serving 'sin unto death', obviously a law-breaker is not serving 'obedience unto righteousness'.

Therefore salvation requires BOTH grace AND obedience. Some will argue grace and obedience are antagonistic to each other but they are not for grace and obedience go together.........obedience is required to keep one from serving 'sin unto death' and grace is needed for those times when ones sins.

No one's obedience is going to be perfect so grace is needed. So if the Christian obediently repents of his sins (1 John 1:7-10) his sins will all be washed away and he continues in the grace of God.

In Romans 6:14 we find that sin shall not have dominion over you because you are not under the law but under grace.

Most assuredly, grace in a person's life will produce a labour of love (obedience)...see 1 Corinthians 15:10 for example.

At the same time, grace and works are mutually exclusive when it comes to what saves us...see Romans 11:5-6 (kjv).

One benefit of BACs being under grace is that
they have been set FREE of being in bondage to sin!
They NO longer HAVE to sin! (Ref: several NT verses)
That is what Paul was talking about.

False doctrine! ... See Matthew 25, the book of James, etc.
Well, works PROVES a person is saved.
IMO, pretty much the same thing.
If you don't have acceptable WORKS, you're NOT saved.

The obedience is as necessary as grace when it comes to salvation.....
no obedience = no grace...
no obedience = serving sin unto death.

Romans 11 God's people were always the one's who obeyed him.....in the OT those that obeyed by not bowing to Baal (v4)....under the NT by election of grace(v5)/obeying the gospel of Christ (2 Thessalonians 1:8).
Being of God is not by works of merit per Romans 11:6.

There are many Christians here who are well-versed in the Bible. Of course Romans 6 is important, but your interpretations leave much to be desired. Indeed, some of your conclusions are false (e.g. Romans 6:23).

Romans 11:6
"And if by grace, then is it no more of works: otherwise grace is no more grace.
But if it be of works, then is it no more grace: otherwise work is no more work."

This refers to WORKS ONLY ...
which everyone (except BACs), and all religions, have always believed in!

Like I asked before ... Who are you anyway?

You really need to think about what the scripture in question means, in light of the verse before it.

For years, people have complained about my take on Romans 6!
Problem is ... what Paul teaches ME i Romans 6
is totally consistent, and confirms, all of the other
dire warnings in the NT about choosing to sin habitually!

Tis NOT a stand-alone teaching by any stretch.

Our churches today are filled with believers who want
their cake (salvation) ... and want to eat it (sin) too.

That may be so, but we still need to properly interpret what is written.
