For the past couple of days my blood pressure has been very high and a severe headache has ground me to nothing. I stopped taking BP meds a few years ago as my high BP seemed to have been cured. I knew I needed to see my Dr despite my prayers. When I start seriously thinking of going to the ER room in the miserable wee hours I know that I'm in real need. I have no idea why it has flared up.

I called my doctor's clinic after two days of torment to see if there was a remote possibility of getting in to see him. The next day was the earliest thing available. I accepted even though it meant another 24 hours of extreme pain with my head as if pierced with a spike. I just felt bad all over and my poor old body yearned for relief.

Afterwards I began to pray for a cancelation that someone might make. The phone rang from the clinic but only to give me results of a previous blood analysis. Oh well I tried. But how could I possibly stand another horrible day of this pain and dangerous BP of 180 or more over 80? That high pressure causes strokes and heart failure.

Then the phone rang again. It was the clinic with an appointment cancelation! They could take me in an hour. Just enough time to get easy and drive the sixteen miles to town. Hallelujah! The Lord had heard and given me favor! Thank you Jesus. Coming to mind then was;

Psalm 34:9 KJVS
O fear the Lord , ye his saints: for there is no want to them that fear him.

At the doctors we discussed my BP that was still 180/80 and decided to go back on the Atenonol I was taking before. My doctor told me he placed my name in the canceled appointment spot as soon as it opened up! I was able to share some things God had shown me since my doctor is a Christian and I often pray with him when I go for an appointment. It's wonderful having a doctor that is enthusiastic when asked if you might pray for him. A Christian doctor is a real blessing.

After taking BP med outside the pharmacy I had to go to the store and afterwards glad to get home. My BP checked OK at 120/70 by then.

I praise and worship the Lord for making a way for me. I'm still very tired from the physical stress and pain but to see Him help me is so good. Not many times can you get a same day appointment with a busy doctor. I see God's hand everywhere and He's always working for us that believe.

As I lie here on the couch I'm still thankful to Him.

what causes the blood pressure Frank?

I wish I knew. Just getting old I guess. At least I have meds back now. It was high this am but not like yesterday. Meds brought it down to 124/66 which is not bad.

From what I read 140/90 are very high numbers. My top number was 180.

It is the bottom number that is of most concern for strokes. If it gets above 100 then you should seek emergency care. Here is a chart for what is considered ideal blood pressures by age...
th

Now what has to be factored in is the BMI (body mass index)…..so a person who is overweight will tend to have higher blood pressures than one who is within their normal BMI range.
Also, foods can cause higher blood pressures, such as caffeine or any kind of stimulants. If your blood pressure is up and down then it isn't so much of an alarm as when it stays consistently high. Stress causes your blood pressure to be high as well.

I am a graduate RN so I am sharing my knowledge based on my education of it....hope it helps.

What do you mean "meds brought it back down"?

High BP doesn't get cured. You have to keep taking your meds unless you get a really low reading --- then you speak to your dr about this and he'll change your medicine. Atenonol can cause this BTW. I hope you measure your blood pressure every day.

Too low could cause a headache too BTW. Not that bad, I don't believe. Not sure.
(hypotension).

God bless you.

My headaches are always high blood pressure related. Meds did bring it down but I have begun daily. Hope it abates again. Was OK for a few years. Bottom number is rarely high often only 55-60. I've watched these things over the years.

I refuse to fear.

you know you can't even take BP meds if you eat Omega 3 regularly.
And imo you are not suffering from a lack of (magic) BP meds

Frank. So sorry to hear of your horrible attack.

Well to put your mind at rest a wee bit....I had to go to see a BP specialist because my blood pressure kept spiking and the meds I was on did not control it.

He assure me that most GP doctors over medicate. ( He told me I was over medicated.) He said at "our age"...140 / 80 is a very acceptable number to have. He said new studies are out and all the hype about even medicating people at 140 is now considered incorrect, but few doctor comply...they medicate.
I settled at about 138/79 and he is very happy with that.

This last week my ears got the well known high pitch whistle. I have had some form for two decades...which don't bother me. When it become high pitched I knew it is the BP.
I took mine, and like you...I knew that 180/82 was not good.

Probably you have had to wear a monitor a couple of times.
The heart and Stroke clinic told me that people panic ( which elevates it even more! ) ...but in fact BP is never consistent , it fluctuates all day, up and down.
They showed me a print out and even though it was a often over 160/80 for a length of time in the day...at night it dropped below 160. It always goes down at night.

The specialist told me that only if it is consistently 170 all week, is there a strong possibility for stroke. Mine was 156/ yesterday. Today 148..it didn't worry me a bit...two hours later it could be 127/ sometimes it is.
I am on two BP meds.

Probably that headache was equivalent to my piercing ear whistle...

You BP dropping after you took the meds, was equally a lot to do with you body relaxing in relief at seeing the doctor and getting meds...than just because of the meds. Been there done that.
Bless you very much my brother.

I'm surprised the doctors have not told you what the cause might be.
If you knew the cause you could do something about it to rectify it and so sidestep the meds.

Most doctors have no idea what the root cause of high blood pressure is.
Majority don't even care...they just write a prescription...after all that is what they are legal drug pushers..and get paid for it.
aused he stike
But, most of us have no choice.
Mine at least sent me for tests ...and they found high aldosterone caused the sudden spike ..when it normalized I was okay, until it spiked again...( kidney pumping out too much into the body sometimes)
So the specialist gave me an aldosterone blocker.
Again, not a fix, just a patch up job. :)
( I have no idea what aldosterone is, or what it does.)

All I know is that it is def. a hormone and has something to do with the cardio system...I worked in a Lab for 23 years so picked up a few things, lol...I drew plenty of patients blood for that test...Praying for your health Helen! ♥

Never ever heard of that!.
Where on earth do you dig all this stuff up...did you do Med School or self taught?
Or a natural healing seminar ?
ya, this is emerging science, pretty new to me too. Unfortunately "natural healing" has gotten some bad connotations i guess, too new-agey for me anyway, but still better than Rx imo. Of course "cannabinoid" generally means "pot" to most people, although there are cannabinoids in other foods too. But for a deficiency cannabidiol is prolly indicated, no "high," etc, even if it doesn't lower BP as quick as pot--i guess a little THC makes it more active, great in salads anyway :)

so, i heard this by noting the beneficial effects of pot in various...basket cases who improved, kids we gave free Charlotte's Web to, kids who could not even talk, having seizures all the time, etc, but of course this was suppressed for so long that we didn't even know there was an "endocannabinoid system" until the receptor was discovered, maybe ten years ago? No, i guess more like 1990, but it takes that long for truth that runs counter to the state to even emerge i guess. So it was more like i was doing it bc it worked, and the discovery was just a verification

I'd be finding out. Many of the ailments that surface are diet related. That is something within ones control. We can become interested in our own bodies and how they function rather than leaving it up to 'professionals'. Being proactive re this pays dividends.
We can get anatomy charts or books, take an interest and read up a little.

It's an industry, they call it the health system. We need to wake up, it's the sickness system.

If we settle for habits and practices that are not in our interest when they are within our control what can we expect?

I don't take any meds for anything but I have been in situations where doctors push them onto me. In my case they were accident related. I refuse to take them, instead do what i can to strengthen and stretch and whatever else is applicable that I can do myself.
I have seen folk in accident rehabs I visited too lazy to apply themselves just lolling around halfhearted about their programs. Months later I'm out with a spring in my step and I bump into various ones in the street that I met in the rehabs limping and shuffling and remember they were the ones that didn't apply themselves. Their muscles never stretched sufficiently nor got strong enough and now they live with limitations that needn't have been.

the second sentence explains the first one i guess
lol. or i guess arg. i laugh to keep from crying here
I'm aware that most doctors don't educate their patients but rather peddle the drugs that pharmaceutical company reps push.
I'm also aware that most folks don't want to take responsibility for their own health and prefer quick fixes in pills and potions rather than changing their lifestyle habits.

Well I don't spend a lot of time with doctors. When God healed my heart 40 odd years ago I was called out by a prophet I'd never seen and he said God was healing my heart.

When God does something you have the opportunity to believe or not. Next day after the healing service I was climbing stairs at work and chest pains hit me like a lightning bolt. The devil said you are going to die. The same thing he'd said many times in the wee hours as I lay beside my wife. Very fearful. Especially because then I didn't know who was saying it. Being a new believer i thought these were my own thoughts. It takes awhile to learn his devices and lies.

I took off running up those stairs and told the devil that he had my permission to kill me if he could get past the name and the blood of Jesus. He didn't take my offer.

I rather die in my tracks than spend my life in fear. Funny but after not having pains for ages my heart is aching as I type this. I still have to trust God for my healing every day.

I refuse to dial 911 at every gas pain. My SIL says she is a Christian but is fearful of every little thing and heads for the doctor at the slightest symptom. It's a bad way to live being in constant fear. I won't. These are the folks that cause insurance rates to be sky high. Burdening and taxing the system for the rest of us.

When it comes to my children or others though I urge them to seek help asap. You cannot live by their faith nor they by yours. We must live by His faith that has been sowed into our spirit.

Galatians 2:20 KJVS
I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.
