The Day of Debt: Friday or Wednesday? – Chuck Missler – Koinonia House Can you get 3 days and 3 nights from Friday evening to Sunday morning? Matthew 12:40.

The Sabbaths

Nowhere in the Gospels does it assert that Christ was crucified on a Friday. In Mark 15:42, it refers to “…the day before the sabbath.” This may be the root of the misunderstanding.

The Jews had other sabbaths in addition to the weekly shabbat (Saturday). In addition to the weekly sabbaths, there were seven “high sabbaths” each year, and the first day of the Feast of Unleavened Bread, the 15th of Nisan, was one of them.[4]

Further, Matthew 28:1 should read, “At the end of the sabbaths,”[5] (which is plural in the Greek), implying there was a plurality of sabbaths that week.

If Passover, the 14th of Nisan, fell earlier in the week, the 15th could have been any day prior to Saturday, the weekly sabbath. “When the sabbaths were past” would, of course, be Sunday (actually, Saturday after sundown), in accordance to the Feast of First Fruits. (Some hold to a Thursday crucifixion on a similar basis

Friday is thought to be the day of the crucifixion because it was preperation day for the Sabbath. But it wasn't the weekly Sabbath. Passover is a high Sabbath and John's gospel says it was preperation day for the Passover. This is the day the lambs were slain. Wouldn't it make sense that the Lamb of God was slain on the same day? But the other gospels say the Last Supper was the Passover meal. Some rectify this by claiming the Pharisees celebrated Passover on a different day than Jesus. Some say there were two calendars. Was the Last Supper a Passover Seder?

Wasn't there a law concerning 2 passovers? 1 for those who were already there and another for those who had been away or needed purification?

So which Passover were they keeping? The first month or the second?
Either way it was the fourteenth day of that month.

This was only a day apart . Passover was the 14th of Nisan.
Sorry I meant Numbers chapter 9

Num 9:1 And the LORD spake unto Moses in the wilderness of Sinai, in the first month of the second year after they were come out of the land of Egypt, saying,
Num 9:2 Let the children of Israel also keep the passover at his appointed season.
Num 9:3 In the fourteenth day of this month, at even, ye shall keep it in his appointed season: according to all the rites of it, and according to all the ceremonies thereof, shall ye keep it.
Num 9:4 And Moses spake unto the children of Israel, that they should keep the passover.
Num 9:5 And they kept the passover on the fourteenth day of the first month at even in the wilderness of Sinai: according to all that the LORD commanded Moses, so did the children of Israel.
Num 9:6 And there were certain men, who were defiled by the dead body of a man, that they could not keep the passover on that day: and they came before Moses and before Aaron on that day:
Num 9:7 And those men said unto him, We are defiled by the dead body of a man: wherefore are we kept back, that we may not offer an offering of the LORD in his appointed season among the children of Israel?
Num 9:8 And Moses said unto them, Stand still, and I will hear what the LORD will command concerning you.
Num 9:9 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
Num 9:10 Speak unto the children of Israel, saying, If any man of you or of your posterity shall be unclean by reason of a dead body, or be in a journey afar off, yet he shall keep the passover unto the LORD.
Num 9:11 The fourteenth day of the second month at even they shall keep it, and eat it with unleavened bread and bitter herbs.

I guess the question would be:
Did Jesus come in contact with a dead body
and/or
was he on a far journey?

Names for days at that time didn't exist. We know Jesus rose the first day of the week. We know he spent 3 days and nights in the heart of the earth.
I'm not much into common core math, but that seems like it would be 3 days and nights before the first day of the week.
Now the Jews continually kept Saturday as the Sabbath seventh day of the week. The day God rested from his works.
How many days did God rest before he came walking in the garden?

If you look at the macro view, a day is as a thousand years to the Lord.
Perhaps his spirit rested in the hearts of man for 3000 years before it reawakened.
Man is of the earth. Earthy even.

So for 3000 years the spirit of the Lord waited until Pentecost, which was 50 days later to be revealed.

Time was different back then. The Hebrew calendar worked in 30 day cycles.
How many 7's are in 30 days?
Was the first day of the week always a Sunday?
Who changed the days and times?
Who added the names?
Who created the calendars?

Do we really know what time it is?

:D

None whatsoever. Passover was on the 14th of Nisan, and it would have been on a Wednesday. Christ rose on the first day of the week (Sunday).

Sunset on Wednesday = beginning of Thursday.
Sunset on Thursday = beginning of Friday (24 hours completed)
Sunset on Friday = beginning of Saturday (24 hours completed)
Sunset on Saturday = beginning of Sunday (24 hours completed)

Christ arose probably between midnight and 4:00 a.m. on the first day of the week.

So I can just take a penknife to Numbers chapter 9 and toss it in the fire then?
There were no names for days of the week at that time.
All we know is Christ was buried for 3 days and nights in the earth, and on the 3rd day he rose from the dead.

It could not be fully 3 days because he rose ON the 3rd day. If he had been fully 3 days and nights, he would of had to rise on the fourth day.
But God controls the clock not I.
Why is this important?

The days of the week have been the same since at least 800 BC. The SDAs have done a lot of research on this and comparing their websites to what I can find from various sources they seem to be right about this.

Well since we are in AD 2022 and not 1500 B.C. what's your point? Names for the days of the week began around 1100 BC. First the Greeks began naming them, then the Romans changed them, then the Anglo-Saxons changed them. But the Bible speaks of "the first day of the week" (also called "the morrow after the Sabbath").

This could be true, no argument there. But a lot of things were going on in the world for the last 6000 years.
Perhaps the days got jaded by being in Babylonian captivity.
Considering the Hebrews didn't know concerning a sabbath while they were held in slavery in Egypt, until Moses cleared that up for them.
The Sabbath has been the Sabbath since God rested in it. It didn't begin with Moses. But God gave His sabbath to man through the preaching of Moses.
So the children are roaming around the wilderness and their getting grumpy because their hungry. So they start to mutiny for lack of food.
They go to Moses and he tells them to take up the manna for 6 days.
We don't know the names of those days or when the first day of that week was. We only know from THAT day began a seven day period.
Because Moses told them on the 6th day, whatever day that was, that the next day was a sabbath of rest unto the Lord.
Exo 16:4 Then said the LORD unto Moses, Behold, I will rain bread from heaven for you; and the people shall go out and gather a certain rate every day, that I may prove them, whether they will walk in my law, or no.
Exo 16:5 And it shall come to pass, that on the sixth day they shall prepare that which they bring in; and it shall be twice as much as they gather daily.
Exo 16:22 And it came to pass, that on the sixth day they gathered twice as much bread, two omers for one man: and all the rulers of the congregation came and told Moses.
Exo 16:23 And he said unto them, This is that which the LORD hath said, To morrow is the rest of the holy sabbath unto the LORD: bake that which ye will bake to day, and seethe that ye will seethe; and that which remaineth over lay up for you to be kept until the morning.

This is the first occurrence of the word sabbath spoken by and administered by Moses to the people.

Genesis chapter 2 is the first occurrence of a mention of the 7th day and skips right over Abraham, Issac, Jacob, until we come to Moses in Exodus.

God's work was completed and He rested when the children which were enslaved by the Egyptians were freed.
And God shared that rest with man.

Why is there no mention of a sabbath day or a seventh day during the days of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob?
Because they were living under grace. No law had been given until Moses.
Was the sabbath always intended to be a law or was it given by the grace of God?

A day is as a thousand years with the Lord. Perhaps we are living in His sabbath still....
But we humans have to control it. We have to be in charge of it.
And we end up fighting wars over a day that was given man to rest in.
How ironic.

How is the day of crucifixion and the sabbath day unrelated or off topic?
And again, why is this important?
