We find the following in 2 Corinthians 7...
2 Corinthians 7:1
Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.

The filthiness of the flesh is not too hard to figure out as our carnal nature is evident all around, but what about the 'filthiness' of the 'spirit'. How does that differ from the 'flesh', how would one explain or define exactly what that is.

All men have spirits, not all men have the Spirit of God!

Job 32:8-But there is a spirit in man: and the inspiration of the Almighty giveth them understanding.

Genesis 2:7 - And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.

Ecclesiastes 12:7 - Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it.

It is God whom created all men having created them in his image of a body, soul & spirit or the spirit as the animation of life and it is God whom has given.

1 Corinthians 2:11 - For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God.

John 4:24 - God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.

Romans 8:16 - The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:

All things pertaining to loving our flesh and the treasures of the heart come by the spirit that is in man. Not only love but hate, envying, covetousness, jealousies, lusts, pride, ECT all these must be cleansed by repentance and allowing the Holy Spirit of God to rectify & eradicate such.

Only by his Spirit bearing his fruit in us from our salvation by growth, in prayer and submission to him, can we truly be cleansed from our spirits into the things of his Spirit!

Thank you for this post.

A few suggestions:
Matthew 5:28—lust.
The 9th Commandment—-Coveting in all its ways
The 6th Commandment, but mentally, plus holding a grudge, bearing ill will, holding hate in your heart toward others.

Peace and blessings

2Cor 7:1 . . Since we have these promises, dear friends, let us cleanse
ourselves from everything that contaminates body and spirit, perfecting
holiness out of deference to God's will.

Webster's defines "deference" as affected and/or ingratiating regard for
another's wishes. Deference is the opposite of resistance, rebellion, defiance,
indifference, stubbornness and/or doing things your own way.

Contaminations of one's body would include things like drug addiction,
alcoholism, adultery, promiscuity, gluttony, eating blood, etc.

Contaminations of the spirit likely refers to things that influence one's
thinking and/or have an effect upon the personality; for example: Critical
Race Theory, the political philosophies of Carl Marx, Mao Zedong, and
Vladimir Lenin, Planned Parenthood, Liberalism, LGBTQ Sex Education,
and Transgender brainwashing, etc.

** The promises are those listed at 2Cor 6:14-18.
