What is truth?

Why would anyone want to join the “atheistic communism” RCC or “the Protestant whore” (to use your colorful language concerning non-Catholic / non-Christian trinitarian churches)?

Christ is not separated from his church. The RCC is NOT his church.

@Matthias God in Three Persons is indeed deeply present in Scripture.

 

I believed that when I was a trinitarian. Ironically, Catholic scholars played a large role in helping me see that it isn’t. Church history played an even larger role.

And then there is Jesus of Nazareth. He has a God, and his God isn’t the Trinity.

 

If we read John's Gospel, John's First Epistle, Romans 8, etc., we see that God in Three Persons are deeply Scriptural. The Word speaks for itself; it is not ecclesiastical "authority" that supposedly reads God in Three Persons into Scripture.

 

I read John’s Gospel, John’s First Epistle, Romans 8, etc. and I don’t see anything in them to support the idea that there is a God besides Jesus’ own God.

Catholic scholars write about “elemental trinitarianism” in scripture - that I see and understand.

To use your phrasing, Jesus’ God is God, in One Person.

 

As it happens, I was reading Paula Fredriksen’s book When Christians Were Jews: The First Generation last night. She makes a clear and simple statement about the Jesus and his relationship to the God of Israel -

“… after conquering and subduing the gods of the nations, raising the dead and transforming the living, the messiah son of David would turn the Kingdom over to his father, Israel’s god.”

(p. 153)

The God of Jesus is the God of Israel.

That was exactly what Pilate asked Jesus, and Jesus did not say anything.

Perhaps he pointed at himself, that is why no dialogue is there.

 

We are not going to agree; and this is a serious matter in Scripture.

I think a closer look at the account will show that Pilate wasn't seeking information. Perhaps he was asking a rhetorical question like, "What has truth got to do with state power?" The answer seems to be, "not much if at all."
