I told my Dad he was looking sharp the other day. I wanted to cheer him up. He had been a little sad recently. Struggles at work apparently. He's a good man but gets down sometimes.
He didn't really look sharp but I wanted to give him a boost. He looked ok. Nothing special.
You thinks lies like this are evil? I believe lies help life run more smoothly. And can even cheer others up. The lies have to have some truth though. To be believable.

No matter how you paint it, a lie is a lie and the Word of God says that all liars will have their part in the lake of fire. So I'd suggest not to be willfully breaking His commandments.

Hebrews 10:26-29 (KJV) ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ ²⁶ For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins, ²⁷ But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries. ²⁸ He that despised Moses' law died without mercy under two or three witnesses: ²⁹ Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace?

Umm,.. I don't know. I always believe in honesty is the best policy and I don't like people to lie to me so I generally don't lie to other people. :) (Unless it's to spare their feelings or something and I've told little white lies before and twist the truth around but I mostly do that online and as far to my knowledge I haven't done it recently.)

If you really think about what you said You should realize your judgement on yourself is The Lake of Fire

Its the corrupt body and the tempter (serpent), I wouldn't call it "self deception" though.
I would. But we need to get more specific.
If I convince myself that watching porn is harmless, iam deliberately deceiving myself. Rationalising. If I think about the victims in human trafficking, I might be encouraged to wake up. That's just one example.

Ok the hard and fast view needs to be expressed I admit. But I don't subscribe to it myself.

When is the last time you told a lie?
OP^

Can't remember. I try really hard to not lie about anything. Even simple things; like "hey, how ya doing"...people lie about that all the time, don't have to go into detail...so-so...could be better... better than I deserve...pretty good...blessed...my common answers.
If it is best not talk about something, I just say so. If family member is feeling down, I reminisce about a good time.
I'm not big on flattery, but freely give complements and blessings to family, friends and strangers.
Don't see a reason to lie. Have had people say..."it's none of my business ... but..." and there comes the prying gossip, I just say, you're right, it's none of your business.
Always a way to avoid lying....and good thing to teach children "how to do the same".
Give you're dad a hug and kiss on the cheek, and tell him you love him...that will do good, as an adult child, more than you know.

God Bless,
Taken

Even though I'm ignoring that person I still saw what they wrote and even though it doesn't give anybody license to sin, Christians aren't held to the law. Btw, you might not always be a very nice person but I apologise for calling you a troll because clearly you are not.

Rationalizations and justifications? Be honest with yourself and you're OK. But that's not what I was talking about. I have schizophrenia, and my mind has tiny hallucinations all day long, I have to ignore them and continue my day normally, temptations I ignore also.

Oh wow. Ok. That's a whole different ball game. What I say then won't apply to you necessarily then .....take care

Jesus held his tongue instead of telling white lies or manipulating with deceptions. They killed him for it. He went to heaven.
White lies?? Are you sure about that?
As for manipulation, you need more examples to assert that white lies are always manipulative.

You mean I don't take everything in the Bible literally? No I don't.

Me neither,.. we actually agree on something. The Bible is full of parables though so I don't think it's meant for it to always be taken literally one hundred percent anyways. Jesus Himself is famous for doing this.

The only part that I disagree with you about is that didn't Jesus go to Hell first when He took our punishment on our behalf? Or is that a myth?

I mean, do you believe God was just kidding when He said thou shalt not lie? I take it, you do not believe there is a hell or lake of fire?

I didn't assert that white lies are always manipulative, but I'm sure they are anyways. You think Jesus lied? He gave parables that were a form of the truth. But it sounds like you need to get to know who Jesus is:

John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

Saying he lied is blasphemy and against forum rules.
