"Where Is Our Faith?'
By Zach Wood
Mark 4:39-40
He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, "Quiet! Be still!" Then the wind died down and it was completely calm. He said to his disciples, "Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?"
What amazes me about the disciples is how they spent so much time with Jesus Christ, and yet, still lacked so many faith even after watching so many miracles performed. They witnessed so many divine attributes of our Lord, yet they still questioned so many times as if He had given them reason to doubt.
I see myself so much in those disciples. I find myself, so often, not trusting or believing, that God will move mountains and do miracles around me. He has proven His provision time and time again. But I still find myself doubting when I look at things going on around me and think rationally how it can possibly get better. I doubt so often and I am more than sure most of you find yourself doing the exact same thing.
We are so human, are we not? God moves in our lives and changes us in ways we have never believed would happen. However, we continue to doubt and freak out when things do not go a certain way. It is like we have amnesia and completely forget how God has provided in the past. He always provides. ALWAYS! What in the world keeps us from believing He will continue to do so? We sure can learn a lot from the disciples, can we not? We are in the boat of life and all around us, the waves are crashing and freaking us out. But, Jesus Christ always comes along and either holds us through the storm or completely calms the storm for us.
This Faith journey is a daily thing. It is never easy, even though we grow through these times when we must exercise extreme faith. Having faith is hard, because we are completely trusting in what we cannot yet see. And that is exactly when God works at His best. When we have strong faith, a whole new world is brought before our eyes and we see in a whole new way. Awesome!
I pray that our faith will grow and that we will continue to learn, as the disciples did, how to completely put our trust in Jesus Christ and believe in His provisions. He will never leave us. Never. We must have faith.
