Jesus said in Revelation 3:18 “18 I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see”

The gold tried in the fire is the faith of Christ, and the eyesalve is the anointing of the Holy Spirit.

But I want to talk about the white raiment and the new name Jesus said would be given if we overcome, as both these are connected.

The shame of thy nakedness Jesus mentioned in the above verse is the exposure of one’s sins. We saw in Adam and Eve, that after sinning and eating of the tree of knowledge, they then saw their own nakedness and were ashamed. God then gave man a temporary covering of animal skins, but God had a more permanent solution in mind, that was to be revealed later.

Jesus said in
John 15:22
If I had not come and spoken unto them, they had not had sin: but now they have no cloak for their sin.”

In this we see it is the words of God that exposes sin, just as by the law of God came the knowledge of sin. We also see in Jesus’ words above that we need a covering for our sins.

In the law God gave us a shadow of things to come by using natural things to symbolize spiritual truths to be revealed later by His Spirit.

God told Moses to make garments for those who were to minister in the priesthood. God said These garments were to be holy garments for glory and for beauty. God also said these garments were to cover the priests nakedness, so that they bear not their iniquity and die.

Before we go any further into understanding the meaning of the garment, let’s go to the prophecy of the “new name,”as they are both connected.

Isaiah 62
For Zion's sake will I not hold my peace, and for Jerusalem's sake I will not rest, until the righteousness thereof go forth as brightness, and the salvation thereof as a lamp that burneth. And the Gentiles shall see thy righteousness, and all kings thy glory: and thou shalt be called by a “new name,”which the mouth of the Lord shall name. Thou shalt also be a crown of glory in the hand of the Lord, and a royal diadem in the hand of thy God.”

This name is the name which Jesus said would be His new name, and that he would also write it upon those who overcome. And here is the name…

Jeremiah 23:6
In his days Judah shall be saved, and Israel shall dwell safely: and this is his name whereby he shall be called, “The Lord OurRighteousness.”

And here is the same name given to the saints of the Lord…

Jeremiah 33:16
In those days shall Judah be saved, and Jerusalem shall dwell safely: and this is “the name” wherewith she shall be called, “The Lord our righteousness.”

This is what Paul meant when he said put you on the Lord Jesus Christ, like a garment.

This garment and name is shown here in
Revelation 19:8
And to her was granted that she should be arrayed in fine linen, clean and white: for the fine linen is “the righteousness of saints.”

When Jesus came preaching he said to seek the Lord and “His righteousness.”

This is the righteousness of God in Jesus Christ that Paul spoke of, that is imputed to us as a gift if we believe. And the faith to believe is also a gift, as it is the faith “of”Christ; the gold that has already been tried in the fire.

Romans 3:22 Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference:”

Romans 5:17
For if by one man's offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of “the gift of righteousness”shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.”

Philippians 1:11
11 Being filled with the fruits of righteousness, which are by Jesus Christ, unto the glory and praise of God.”

Philippians 3:9
9 And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith:”

This is the imputed righteousness of God we receive when we are born again of Gods Holy Spirit. We are made righteous by our Maker.

2 Corinthians 5:21 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.”

And if you have been made righteous by the faith of Christ, you will also walk in righteousness as did Jesus Christ.

1 John 2:29 If ye know that he is righteous, ye know that every one that doeth righteousness is born of him.

So put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof.

Peace and God bless

With your post I think of: 2 Corinthians 5:4 For we that are in this tabernacle do groan, being burdened: not for that we would be unclothed, but clothed upon, that mortality might be swallowed up of life.

Something that stands out concerning being “unclothed” is bearing shame…where the word warns of robbery or thieves that want to come steal your garment…and the passages of they love to get another naked to look on their shame and nakedness. Why do they love to look on another's shame and nakedness?
Where He says do not worry over such things, for what you will put on…Doesn’t God know you need of clothing, food, and drink? He speaks of letting them take (steal) your garment, knowing you have a better Garment given (provided) of God. That you be not caught unaware by thieves. you are not of the night, but if the day.

Love…what you said here “The gold tried in the fire is the faith of Christ, and the eyesalve is the anointing of the Holy Spirit.”
Love ! 1 Peter 1:7 That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perishes, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ:

Love also what you shared concerning: He will give you a New Name. Revelation 2:17 He that has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcomes will I give to eat of the hidden manna, and will give him a white stone, and in the stone a new name written, which no man knows saving he that receives it.
^consider the magnitude of that “in the stone which no man knows except he that receives it.” ( how He is the stone rejected, becoming the Cornerstone)
Acts 4:11-12 This Jesus is the stone that was rejected by you, the builders, which has become the cornerstone. [12] And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved."

Just my opinion but we really miss the point if we focus on our receiving Our very own new name which no one knows but us. There is an angst there. We see Jacob who He named Israel..and others like Saul named Paul. But those names are disclosed …others know those names. But what is their Name that many wouldn’t receive, nor know? “Christ speaks in you”? “Prove it!” “prove to us Christ speaks in you!” …for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.—This Jesus is the stone

To me if we focus on, our very own personal new name …it takes the focus off of: “which no man knows saving him who receives it” the focus being “He that has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says “in the stone a new name written, which no man knows saving he that receives it.” and I will write upon him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, …which IS new Jerusalem which comes down out of heaven from my God: and I will write upon him my new name. Revelation 3:12
So then how significant “let him who hears, hear what the Spirit says” …you must be born anew from above … and I will give him a stone (He is the stone rejected which became the CornerStone): written on it a New name which no man knows saving he who receives “that which comes down from above” (that stone rejected of men but loved of God) which IS New Jerusalem. Everywhere in scripture that which comes down from above Is New Jerusalem.

Significant is I can change my name as Saul became Paul and others will see this change of name and receive it. BUT what they eat against is where Saul became Paul as a New Creature…born anew of God… the angst of their not receiving this. Where Paul wrote of the Corinthians persecution of calling them “those who fail” “reprobate” …denying the stone given with a new name written in it: which is called New Jerusalem. Hardest thing for others to receive is laughing or mocking “you think you’ve been born anew?” “Prove it!” This being what no man knows except him who receives it. Paul told the Corinthians “I trust you will know we are not as those who fail”

the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, …which IS new Jerusalem … “I will write upon him who receives it.”
….and this is his name whereby he shall be called, “The Lord OurRighteousness.”
….this is “the name” wherewith she shall be called, “The Lord our righteousness.”
…to her was granted that she should be arrayed in fine linen, clean and white: for the fine linen is “the righteousness of saints.”
they which receive abundance of grace and of “the gift of righteousness”shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.”

Who is it that comes in “the name” of the Lord that the world cannot receive?

John 14:26
But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you”

John 14:17
Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.

The natural man cannot receive the Testimony of the Spirit.

John 3:32
And what he hath seen and heard, that he testifieth; and no man receiveth his testimony

1 Corinthians 2:14
But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.

John 3:11

11 Verily, verily, I say unto thee, We speak that we do know, and testify that we have seen; and “ye receive not our witness.”

I’m glad you posted these. I was thinking of those too. Significant to me with “…let him hear what the Spirit says “in the stone a new name written, which no man knows saving he that receives it.”
