It seems that there's a very unhealthy drive by so-called christian churches, to convince or 'press-gang' their believers to fund a pastor's personal vision with financial blessings - essentially trying to achieve with monetary means, what the Holy Spirit doesn't do in their church.Whilst in modern times it is an accepted notion that Christians give, give, give and give some more - especially to underprivileged nations and suffering souls, it is difficult to find Biblical precepts on which to base such doctrines. More often than not these charities are providing false comfort to nations & sufferers, 'white-wash' and cover the real cause of any misery - the absence of God. When God blessed Israel with health & prosperity, and promised (conditionally) '...I will put upon you none of these diseases & curses ... IF you obey my law ...', the promise was designed to serve as an example to the gentile nations, with the possibility for anyone who wished so - to become a 'sojourner' in Israel, rightfully partaking of God's blessings (regardless of prior tribal or family links). In attempting to replace 'declaring the truth' with 'providing charity', many modern preachers & churches have cleverly disguised their ineffectual philosophies by giving them pseudo christian labels. - Jesus didn't 'run after' sick people, they came or were brought to him. (Mark 5:22; Matt 9:20; Matt 4:24; etc)- Jesus didn't 'try' to convert anyone, but only answered when people asked sincerely.Wouldn't it be true to state that many a misguided christian $$, whilst 'helping an immediate need', only offers false comfort & hope - without addressing the more important aspects (more important to God) of eternity? With so many churches & charities placing emphasis on monetary help rather than true education (by example) as Israel was supposed to, it's no wonder that 3rd world nations eaily accept 'pseudo' christian handouts whilst rejecting the truth. In offering unconditional charity - the need for repentance, soul searching, truth seeking has been removed. Examples of Godly influence in christian lives have no impact anymore, since charity will arrive anyway - due to the relentless employment of 'guilt-trip doctrines', and the 'millking' of gullible christians. It is to the detriment of blessed christians in the first worlds, that the 'prince of this world' has been able to replace '... rightly dividing the word of truth ..." (2 Tim. 2:15), with 'un-rightly dividing material gifts' to cover & hide the sins & fruit of pagan nations. How can any serious, bible believing christian consider to support efforts of organisations (like the Red Cross in Zimbabwe) - when same organisation refuses simultaneously to publicly make a stand against the corruption going on? Humanistic help is ultimately NOT what the Bible is about. By eliminating the need to seek God, supplying the need of poor nations and remaining silent as to the real cause (as learned from the Scripture), the so-called christian love has been turned into a humane show of feelings, conscience soothing - not able to provide true comfort.Seems, in their search to find an acceptable and forgiving gospel for their own sins, many christians have become more eager to accept and dispense a lukewarm, all-forgiving love gospel, trying to numb the pain which God intended to be the catalyst in the search for Him. The experience & need of pain for a soul is much underrated, and in the unscriptural desire to eliminate pain & suffering at all costs (humanistic philosophy) many christians have been duped into turning from God's word. Trying to eliminate the worlds suffering & pain by using their own pockets - leaning on their own strength.Sadly this also applies to our own nations, where many donations have helped to establish numerous hospitals, cancer wards, where the sick receive false comfort without God. Yes, we may make use of all the medicinal properties God has provided for us in the surrounding flora & fauna, but - God also did not mind to provide miracles at the 'pool of Bethesda' (John 5:2) - however, people abused those miracles to focus their attention 'away' from God.Where lies the difference:- A mother who refuses to hurt her child when a wound festers in its body, for fear of hurting the child (spiritually & physically)?- A doctor who uses a sharp knife to cut out cancer, or amputate a limb?On the whole, many false preachers are using the financial gains extorted by spiritual means from blind gullible believers to achieve in their own strenght what the Holy Spirit hasn't intended to do in their churches. Essentially, they have formed their own religions, using biblical terminology to impress the ignorant, assuming authority over souls where they shouldn't have, preaching unconditional love & grace where God doesn't. By appeasing the 1st world as well as the 2nd & 3rd worlds, these preachers have simply made themselves available to serve the 'prince of this world', fulfilling the Scripture in 2. Tim 4:3 - and have been welcomed with opened arms by 'wannabe christians' who searched to find teachers according to their own lusts. Not much more than other well known motivational speakers around the world.God's judgment on pagan nations & practices has been rendered powerless because in their eagerness to help fellow mankind, well meaning humanists highjacked and twisted segments of Biblical doctrine. Not to serve the Creator but the creature!...bit of a rant, I know .... but don't you see it too?....thanks Jules
