Writing helps me organize and expand my thoughts. I had a story or two kicking around in my brain, and writing helped me develop and refine them. Publishing just seemed like the best way to get them out there. I didn't publish for profit.

Writers write because readers read, singers sing and musicians play...
Chefs cook
Artists paint
Runners run

God gave gifts that we enjoy using. It's never a bad thing.

I wouldn't call myself an author but I have always liked to write; journals, faith articles to share online or in church newsletters, poems and also writing down my God dreams which have been happening for many years.
Looking back I think I have mostly been inspired and motivated by the Holy Spirit.

He may give me the first line of a poem, and once I write it down He gives me the next line until it just flows. Most of my faith articles have been inspired by something in nature that the Holy Spirit has used to show me a truth. I call these events Life Lessons. And many years ago I began to write little articles with verses and prayers as I just meditated and waited; these ones I called Free Flow.

Why do you write? What motivate you to be an author?

Welcome Jasmine!

I should think, as it is obvious, that many are only self-compelled to write. Which is fine, depending on the subject. Unfortunately that approach does not mix well with spiritual matters, leaving many to write as if inspired by God to speak for Him, as if sent. The byproduct of which is an atmosphere of presumed equal rights, equal to those actually chosen and sent. Apparently, many assume that all spiritual gifts are given to all people equally, muddying the spiritual waters intended to be pure and limited as given. The result of which is a broad way with no clear direction. These things are now evident in the great number of church denominations, and interpretations of the actually inspired Word from God.

Having said that, and my reason for doing so, is that my own answer to your question of what motivates me to write, is quite unique, biblical actually. Yet with so great a buzz of unauthorized free expression occurring, the still small voice of God is quite obscured.

My writing stems from a life appointed to goodness ending in disasters, leaving me unknowingly dead on God's doorstep crying out. To which He answered and caught me up in the spirit above the earth and into His presence, fulfilling things foretold. I was then returned with a task and an overflowing prevision leading to training, and eventually writing, for I could not and cannot contain it.

Love writing blogs, essays, and short stories. I want to write novels but I get bored/frustrated and never finish them. I love writing because I read CS Lewis at a really low point in my life and it brought me out of a really deep funk so I've wanted to write stuff that inspires people like that.

For me, I wrote short stories because I felt compelled to share a message to the people around me.

I have always been a lover of words. Etymology is fascinating. Even the Latin root words for our language.

I had a career as a visual artist. But my concept development typically began with words.
Putting pen to paper I would rough out the verbal ideas that led to visual ideas.

More recently the focus has been on lyrical poetry and songwriting.
