We see Christ laying down what will happen at the Second Coming and the signs and events to watch for...

Matthew 24 King James Version (KJV)
1 And Jesus went out, and departed from the temple: and his disciples came to him for to shew him the buildings of the temple.
2 And Jesus said unto them, See ye not all these things? verily I say unto you, There shall not be left here one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down.
3 And as he sat upon the mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world?
4 And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you.
5 For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many.
6 And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet.
7 For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places.
8 All these are the beginning of sorrows.
9 Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you: and ye shall be hated of all nations for my name's sake.
10 And then shall many be offended, and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another.
11 And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many.
12 And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold.
13 But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.
14 And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come.
15 When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, (whoso readeth, let him understand.
16 Then let them which be in Judaea flee into the mountains:
17 Let him which is on the housetop not come down to take any thing out of his house:
18 Neither let him which is in the field return back to take his clothes.
19 And woe unto them that are with child, and to them that give suck in those days!
20 But pray ye that your flight be not in the winter, neither on the sabbath day:
21 For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be.
22 And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect's sake those days shall be shortened.
23 Then if any man shall say unto you, Lo, here is Christ, or there; believe it not.
24 For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.
25 Behold, I have told you before.
26 Wherefore if they shall say unto you, Behold, he is in the desert; go not forth: behold, he is in the secret chambers; believe it not.
27 For as the lightning cometh out of the east, and shineth even unto the west; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.

Take a close look at one verse especially..
“For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect."
Matthew 24:24

Christ repeatedly gave warnings against deception. From what He says in this chapter, these warnings seem to constitute a greater sign of the climax of the ages than any other sign given, with the exception of the worldwide preaching of the gospel. His disciples questioned Him, "When shall these things be?" In reply Christ opened His discourse on the destruction of Jerusalem and the end of the world with a strong warning against deception. His first remark was " Take heed that no man deceive you." in verse 4. Christ connected His warning against deception, not just with the events we would see, but with the spiritual realm.

Satan has set about to plan the last great deception of man. "Jesus is going to come so he must find a way to deceive the world. He is planning a great, masterful delusion to falsify the coming of Christ. Satan wants every man, woman, and child to be duped by the persuasive powers is his plan. And the Bible says it will succeed with everyone, that is, except those who have built a firm foundation upon the Scriptures. The devil is planning one last massive attack against man. The Bible speaks of it.
"Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves" (Matt. 7:15). "And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light" 2 Cor. 11:14.

In Revelation is a description of one last great deception where all the world will be deceived except one small group, the very elect, those who seek put the truth from Christ in their hearts and minds and will go into Gods kingdom.

Revelation 14:12
Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus.

Revelation 22:14
Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.

Too many times people tend to look over the Bible and think they know all they need to overcome, but it will take more than just a cursory study of Gods Word to become one of God's elect. The elect of God are a select group. Select because of their diligent study of the Word. Satan knows that if he can lead a Christian to neglect Bible study, he has him. "Satan well knows that all whom he can lead to neglect prayer and the searching of the Scriptures, will be overcome by his attacks. Therefore he in vents every possible device to engross the mind. (The Great Controversy, p. 519.)

This is why study of God's Word is so important. It is not a way to pass the day; it is the Christian's survival kit. With this concept in mind, Paul's words to Timothy take on new meaning, "Study to shew thyself approved unto God, . . . rightly dividing the word of truth" (2 Tim. 2:15).

A knowledge of God's truth is essential. Why? "So closely will the counterfeit resemble the true that it will be impossible to distinguish between them except by the Holy Scriptures. By their testimony every statement and every miracle must be tested." (The Great Controversy, p. 593.)

Isaiah tells us...
"To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them" Isaiah 8:20.

God's Word becomes our lie detector. Only with a genuine understanding of what the Bible says can we detect the devil's lies.

Lets take a look at the temptation of Christ in the Wilderness in Matthew 4:1-11.
1 Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil.
2 And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward an hungred.
3 And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread.
4 But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.
5 Then the devil taketh him up into the holy city, and setteth him on a pinnacle of the temple,
6 And saith unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone.
7 Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.
8 Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them;
9 And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me.
10 Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.
11 Then the devil leaveth him, and, behold, angels came and ministered unto him.

What did Christ use, He answered "It is written", and what was it from, the truth from Gods Word.

The temptations of Jesus reveal some interesting parallels with Adam. First, the fact that Adam was tempted while in the Garden of Eden, in an environment free from the corrupting reality of sin; Jesus was tempted in the wilderness, in an environment under the influence of evil powers. Second, Adam had abundance of food, while Jesus was deprived of food. Third, Adam was not fasting; Jesus was. Fourth, both Adam and Jesus were tempted to satisfy their desire for food apart from the will of God; Adam did, Jesus didn’t. Fifth, Adam was tempted to question what God had said and showed lack of trust in God’s word. Jesus also was tempted to question the trustworthiness of the word of God, but He rejected the temptation. Sixth, Adam openly went against the Lord and joined Satan in his rebellion against God and His government. Jesus was offered the kingdoms of this world if He would only worship and join Satan in his struggle against the kingdom of God. Jesus, however, remained loyal to the Father.

When Satan appears, it will be as he did in the wilderness, when he shows himself our senses will say, 'Oh, this must be Christ as look at all the wonderful things he does and says, and how people follow him.' All logic will confirm what we see and hear. But we cannot depend upon logic or senses. We must depend upon God's truth from His Word.

We all know what Christ declares of Himself in John 14:6..
“Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” John 14:6.

Now lets read John 17:17.
“Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.” John 17:17.

This is why every Christian must know the truth for himself. He cannot depend on what he is told by friends, teachers or preachers, or the leaders of the church at the end. The only thing he can depend on is Christ and His truth, we must read it ourselves from the Bible, and we must internalize it and know the truth in our hearts and minds.

o what does it say of how Christ will return, Gods Word tells us..

“And when He had spoken these things, while they beheld, He was taken up; and a cloud received Him out of their sight. And while they were looking steadfastly toward Heaven as He went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel; which also said, 'Ye men of Galilee; why stand ye gazing up into Heaven? This same Jesus which is taken up from you into Heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen Him go into Heaven'.Acts 1:9-l l.

Jesus was taken up into heaven by a cloud, and He will return in the clouds. The clouds refer to the angels of God that surround Him. Jesus Himself promised that He would return with the clouds (the angels).

“And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven; and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.” Matthew 24:30

“When the Son of man shall come in His glory and all the holy angels with Him, then shall He sit upon the throne of His glory.” Matthew 25:31

The glory of Christ's coming surpasses anything we can imagine. He will return in the glory of His angels, and that of the Godhead:

“...when He shall come in His own glory, and in His Father's and of the holy angels.” Luke 9:26

The Second Coming will be universally visible..

“Behold He cometh with clouds, and every eye shall see Him”... Revelation 1:7

We could go on and on, but the point is we must study Gods Word and know its truth, because it sanctifies us as it is the truth from Christ, it has His power to cleanse us, it has His power to save us. It is His truth, which keeps us from Satans deception..

Dear Hobie,
All new believers will be deceived and enter the apostate church. The apostasy began shortly after Paul death and is not some future "end-time" event. The spirit of anti-Christ entered the world before the Apostle John died. He even clearly said that the "last days" were already here.

Acts 20:29 For I know this, that after my departing shall grievous wolves enter in among you, not sparing the flock. 30 Also of your own selves shall men arise, speaking perverse things (like the Doctrines of Free Will and Hell), to draw away disciples after them. 31 Therefore watch, and remember, that by the space of three years I ceased not to warn every one night and day with tears.

1John 2:18 Little children, it is the last time: and as ye have heard that antichrist shall come, even now are there many antichrists; whereby we know that it is the last time.

1John 4:3 And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.

Mat 24:24 For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.

Below is where Christ describes how the apostasy occurs within all new believers:

Mat 12:43 When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through dry places, seeking rest, and findeth none. 44 Then he saith, I will return into my house from whence I came out; and when he is come, he findeth it empty, swept, and garnished. 45 Then goeth he, and taketh with himself SEVEN other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter in and dwell there: and the last state of that man is worse than the first. Even so shall it be also unto this wicked generation (the generation of this present age).

The spiritual symbol of an unclean spirit represents a spirit which teaches Satan's false truth through lies and deceptions.

Since a new believer remains spiritually blind (Mark 8:21-25) after receiving the Early Rain of the Spirit, they cannot replace their worldly false beliefs with the truth of Christ. ONE unclean spirit leaves but comes back with SEVEN more. The number "seven" represents perfection. In this case, the number seven represents the perfection of Satan's lies/deceptions which come to a believer by the indwelling of the spirit of anti-Christ. Now, instead of ONE unclean spirit within the believer, they now have EIGHT. The number eight is a spiritual symbol which represents a new spiritual condition. In this case, the new spiritual condition is worse than the first.

This "worse than the first" spiritual condition causes the believer to become a False Prophet, a Man of Sin, a Minister of Satan and a Seven Headed Beast with Ten Horns & Crowns.

As for your understanding of "every eye will see Him", this event occurs during the final age.

Here is the verse:

Rev 1:7 Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they also which pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth (the rest of mankind) shall wail because of him. Even so, Amen.

The symbol "clouds" represents Christ's angels and the Elect (includes the OT faithful) who are reigning with Christ during the final age:

Heb 12:1 Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,

Mar 13:49 So shall it be at the end of the age: the angels shall come forth, and sever the wicked from among the just
(the conversion event),

Job 37:21 And now men see not the bright light which is in the clouds
(the angels/Elect): but the wind passeth, and cleanseth them.

Daniel 7:6-14 shows this same event which takes place during the final age. It is well worth reading.

So what it the purpose of this event?

The verses below tell us:

Psa 77:17 The clouds poured out water (Latter Rain): the skies sent out a sound (thunder): thine arrows also went abroad (judgment).

1Sam 12:17 Is it not wheat harvest to day? I will call unto the LORD, and he shall send THUNDER and RAIN (Latter Rain); that ye may perceive and see that your wickedness is great, which ye have done in the sight of the LORD, in asking you a king.

What is being described in the verses above is the conversion event. When a person "sees" Christ coming, it is for their salvation:

Heb 9:28 So Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many; and he will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him.

And as stated in Rev 1:7, even the Jewish leaders who crucified Christ will see Christ coming to save them:

Mat 21:31 Which of the two was obeying his father?" They replied, "The first, of course." Then Jesus explained his meaning: "I assure you, corrupt tax collectors and prostitutes will get into the Kingdom of God before you do.

The event shown in Rev 1:7 is when salvation comes to the chief priests and elders who were responsible for "piercing" Christ. And not only them, but also the balance of mankind as well.

1Tim 2:3 For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior; 4 who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth. 5 For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus; 6 who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.

8Owe nothing to anyone except to love one another; for the one who loves [g]his neighbor has fulfilled the Law. 9For this, “YOU SHALL NOT COMMIT ADULTERY, YOU SHALL NOT MURDER, YOU SHALL NOT STEAL, YOU SHALL NOT COVET,” and if there is any other commandment, it is summed up in this saying, “YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF.” 10Love [h]does no wrong to a neighbor; therefore love is the fulfillment of the Law.

You are very mistaken.

Hello, Stash.

Many will be deceived in the latter days, but the 7,000 very Elect will never bow a knee to Baal when the Antichrist sets himself up in Jerusalem claiming to be God.

But what saith the answer of God unto him? I have reserved to myself seven thousand men, who have not bowed the knee to the image of Baal.

13 And the same hour was there a great earthquake, and the tenth part of the city fell, and in the earthquake were slain of men seven thousand: and the remnant were affrighted, and gave glory to the God of heaven.

Actually, the above verse should read like this: -

13 And the same hour there was great turmoil, and a tenth part of the city fell, and during the turmoil were slain seven thousand men: and the remnant were frightened and gave glory to the God of heaven.
A very different picture emerges as there will be no earthquakes.

Now the positive!

1 Kings 19:18

18 Yet I have left me seven thousand in Israel, all the knees which have not bowed unto Baal, and every mouth which hath not kissed him.

This reference is describing God showing Elijah that there were still 7,000 saint who were worshipping Him in all of Israel at that time.

It is false to try and link the 7,000 saints still worshipping God in Elijah's day with what will happen in Rev 11.

Dear Hobie,
All new believers will be deceived and enter the apostate church.

You ignore one very important statement Jesus said: "If it were possible" and though we may succumb to lies for a time- we cannot stay deceived- The Holy Spirit will not allow it!
No, those who listen to and do what Christ says, which is the way, the truth and life will not be deceived..

Would a Saturday sabbath keeper say this? Ro 13

Need to look at Christ and what He says...
Matthew 19:17
And he said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments.

That has nothing to do with the Second Coming, need to study below the surface as Christ warned against false comings of Christ that would be showing up. One thing He clearly set out would be that the false christ would not be universally visible.

Wherefore, if they shall say unto you, Behold he is in the desert; go not forth: behold, he is in the secret chambers, believe it not. For as the lightning cometh out of the east and shineth even unto the west, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.Matthew 24:26,27

...they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of Heaven with power and great glory. Matthew 24:30

Also the Second Coming will be an audible event..

And he shall send His angels with a great sound of a trumpet and they shall gather together His elect from the four winds, from one end of Heaven to the other.Matthew 24:31

The Lord Himself shall descend from Heaven with a shout and the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God... I Thessalonians 4:16

The Lord will not land on the Earth at the Second Coming, but will await the redeemed living saints in the sky with his clouds of angels..

For the Lord Himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God. And the dead in Christ shall rise first. Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so shall we ever be with the Lord.1 Thessalonians 4:16,17

The Saints will be gathered together by angels and taken up into the air to meet the Lord in the sky. This is not a secret rapture as some believe, but seen worldwide and His saints gathered from one end to the other..

...and they will gather his elect from the four winds, from one end of the heavens to the other. Matthew 24:31

So if we study and see what scripture tells us about Christs Second Coming, and understand how and what will occur, Satan will not be able to fool us not matter what he tries, and we will be prepared for Christ.

Dear Hobie,
Your understanding is not supported by the scriptures I posted. The only people who "overcome" are the Elect and they "overcome" only because Christ causes it to happen. Christ causes it to happen when He returns. If a believer dies before Christ comes a second time to them, then they are not one of the Elect.

Your understanding of the New Covenant teachings is carnally based (physical and outward) when they should be spiritually based (eyes that can see). Spiritually based understanding is only given to a believer upon Christ's second coming when He brings salvation to them (Mark 8:15-25, Heb 9:28). If you are waiting for a visible and outward second coming to this world, you will be waiting in vain. Christ does not come that way.

Luke 17:20 And when he was demanded of the Pharisees, when the kingdom of God should come, he answered them and said, The kingdom of God cometh not with observation: 21 Neither shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is WITHIN YOU.

Christ is the Kingdom of God.

If you look in Gods Word, it unveils the understanding of the truth, and one of the most clear signs of the Second Coming is the Seven Last Plagues given in Revelation 16...

Revelation 16 King James Version (KJV)
1 And I heard a great voice out of the temple saying to the seven angels, Go your ways, and pour out the vials of the wrath of God upon the earth.
2 And the first went, and poured out his vial upon the earth; and there fell a noisome and grievous sore upon the men which had the mark of the beast, and upon them which worshipped his image.
3 And the second angel poured out his vial upon the sea; and it became as the blood of a dead man: and every living soul died in the sea.
4 And the third angel poured out his vial upon the rivers and fountains of waters; and they became blood.
5 And I heard the angel of the waters say, Thou art righteous, O Lord, which art, and wast, and shalt be, because thou hast judged thus.
6 For they have shed the blood of saints and prophets, and thou hast given them blood to drink; for they are worthy.
7 And I heard another out of the altar say, Even so, Lord God Almighty, true and righteous are thy judgments.
8 And the fourth angel poured out his vial upon the sun; and power was given unto him to scorch men with fire.
9 And men were scorched with great heat, and blasphemed the name of God, which hath power over these plagues: and they repented not to give him glory.
10 And the fifth angel poured out his vial upon the seat of the beast; and his kingdom was full of darkness; and they gnawed their tongues for pain,
11 And blasphemed the God of heaven because of their pains and their sores, and repented not of their deeds.
12 And the sixth angel poured out his vial upon the great river Euphrates; and the water thereof was dried up, that the way of the kings of the east might be prepared.
13 And I saw three unclean spirits like frogs come out of the mouth of the dragon, and out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false prophet.
14 For they are the spirits of devils, working miracles, which go forth unto the kings of the earth and of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty.
15 Behold, I come as a thief. Blessed is he that watcheth, and keepeth his garments, lest he walk naked, and they see his shame.
16 And he gathered them together into a place called in the Hebrew tongue Armageddon.
17 And the seventh angel poured out his vial into the air; and there came a great voice out of the temple of heaven, from the throne, saying, It is done.
18 And there were voices, and thunders, and lightnings; and there was a great earthquake, such as was not since men were upon the earth, so mighty an earthquake, and so great.
19 And the great city was divided into three parts, and the cities of the nations fell: and great Babylon came in remembrance before God, to give unto her the cup of the wine of the fierceness of his wrath.
20 And every island fled away, and the mountains were not found.
21 And there fell upon men a great hail out of heaven, every stone about the weight of a talent: and men blasphemed God because of the plague of the hail; for the plague thereof was exceeding great.

Scripture reveals the events leading up to the Second Coming and the fullness of the wrath of God will come upon the earth in the seven last plagues. When the sixth plague is poured out, the way is prepared for the battle of Armageddon. Then a mighty earthquake will shake the whole earth at the beginning of the seventh plague. The graves are opened, and 'many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth . . . awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt.'

And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt. Daniel 12:2.

At the coming of Christ, the righteous dead will be resurrected and then be given the gift of eternal life and be made immortal and the righteous living will be changed from mortal to immortal:

In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory. 1 Corinthians 15:52-54

For our conversation is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ: Who shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body, according to the working whereby he is able even to subdue all things unto himself.
Philippians 3:21-22

The saints are changed 'in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye.' At the voice of God they were glorified; now they are made immortal and with the risen saints are caught up to meet their Lord in the air. They meet the Lord in the air and taken to heaven where they will stand before the throne of God.

Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord 1 Thessalonians 4:17

Revelation 3:21

Dear Hobie,
Christ will cause EVERYONE to repent of their "works" and turn to Him. No one will be lost.

2Pet 3:9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

Mankind is at the mercy of Christ to save them because mankind has no ability to do anything to save themselves. Even their repentance is a gift from God:

Acts 5:31 Him hath God exalted with his right hand to be a Prince and a Saviour, for to give repentance to Israel, and forgiveness of sins.

2Tim 2:25 In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth;

In this present age, Christ is only doing His saving work within the Elect. In the final age, Christ will do His saving work within the rest of mankind.

When a believer adds their own works to the Gospel, they are mixing works (Old Wine) with faith (New Wine). This is the sin that leads to death and is what makes a believer "fall away" and become apostate. An apostate believer has been stung by Satan the serpent and is following "another gospel".

Prov 23:29 Who hath woe? who hath sorrow? who hath contentions? who hath babbling? who hath wounds without cause? who hath redness of eyes? 30 They that tarry long at the wine; they that go to seek mixed wine. 31 Look not thou upon the wine when it is red, when it giveth his colour in the cup, when it moveth itself aright. 32 At the last it biteth like a serpent, and stingeth like an adder.
