"Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things."
    (Philippians 4.8)

Good advice also if life is getting to you, stop listening to the dreadful news and go look at something good.

Good advice generally to count one's blessings rather then one's misfortunes and of course to thank and praise the author of those blessings.

    How can I overcome a habitual sin? | GotQuestions.org
Habitual sin is not pure, not wise, not holy, not satisfying God or His Word.

It is not a virtue, not lovely, not a good report.

i.e. the opposite of what God Says.

12 For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. 13 Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account.

You posted a question but have not answered it.
So what is your answer to the question you posted?

That was the question you posted, although what it has to do with the OP ,which was a positive verse, why do you have to turn everything into a negative!!
You must have had a reason for posting it on Saturday - it’s not about keeping a track of the thread, ut perhaps explaining why you posted what you did - the ball is in your court !

After a question is asked, in the title, op, or otherwise, in any post following, I may not know which one you are referring to
unless you quote it in your reply.

Farouk quoted a verse from Philippians and stated it was a wonderful verse........it wasn’t a question, but a statement ...... the posts that followed were positive one, in agreement ...... then you post one asking a question ‘ how to overcome habitual sin ‘.......... it’s pretty easy to follow this thread as their are very few responses.... your post just seems random, and doesn’t seem to tie in with the OP, or any posts that follow - so I was just asking you why you posted it........just curious !

Personally I find it good to limit my news consumption to nearly Zero.

Fill your mind with Christ, and with beauty and holiness, and the rest will sort itself.

    Much love!

    COOL! Thanks !
To properly answer, unexpected even to me (I didn't think anyone would ask/ follow through) ....

Remember when some people came to Jesus and made statements or asked Him questions, what did Jesus DO? How did Jesus always reply - (each and every time) ?

This is important here, because Jesus always said His disciples are taught, trained, and supposed to DO the same as Jesus did,

for the same motive, with the same attitude as Jesus.

While obviously I may not yet have reached the level Jesus calls us all to in Himself, as He trains us, as God permits and guides us,

but this I DO, ("A WONDERFUL VERSE")

"Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own.
But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead,
    Berean Study Bible"

Philippians 3:13 Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have laid hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead,

Actually, now looking, I was only quoting that to refer to straining to what lies ahead in Jesus, NOT having "made it my own" fully yet, as written,
and the "forgetting what lies behind" (an act of the will of man - doable in Christ Jesus)
also happens A LOT, JOYOUSLY - yes indeed and in truth, a WONDERFUL VERSE !

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    ------------------------------------------------------
    --------------------------
So, in few words, what does Jesus train and teach us disciples to DO (in all of our words and deeds) as well as
    "think on these things" ?

(that is my hope, joy, goal, motive, and desire)

@Rita Maybe it was a stream of consciousness thing...

(Maybe the same sort of thing has been going on with our friend with another of my threads that you know...)

@Rita: I must admit that Philippians — the Epistle of Joy — is among my favorite Bible books.

Only problem with that is isolation from what is happening in the world.
How can one pray intelligently if one doesn't know what is happening in the world?

If one has to be intelligent to be able to pray, then they would also know that it is best to seek God's face to ask how they should pray first.

The context of Philippians 4.8 involves the activities of prayer, thanksgiving and rejoicing. These are also themes in 1 Thess. 5.
