Settings for standalone (not networked) computer
Incorrectly modifying the registry can destroy Windows and / or your applications. Therefore, make sure you follow the steps carefully.
Disable Dcom
1) Start Registry Editor - start menu > run > regedit
2) Navigate to the following registry Key
- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ Software \ Microsoft \ OLE
3) Located at the right side. Select the item named EnableDCOM and modify
the value to N
4) Open registry editor & navigate to this registry key
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Microsoft \ Rpc
5) Right click on & Modify the value named DCOM Protocols
6) Under the Value Data, you will see values like
DCOM Protocols
Value Data:
ncacn_ip_tcp REG_SZ rpcrt4.dll
ncacn_nb_tcp REG_SZ rpcrt4.dll
ncacn_np REG_SZ rpcrt4.dll
ncacn_ip_udp REG_SZ rpcrt4.dll
ncacn_http REG_SZ rpcrt4.dll
7) Under Value Data highligt Everything listed and DELETE All by using your
Delete key or your Backspace key.
DCOM Protocols
Value Data:
Click ok
All there should be is DCOM Protocols with no values
8) Next, navigate to this key
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SYSTEM\ ControlSet001 \ Services \ NetBT \ Parameters
9) Select & modify the entry named TransportBindName
10) The default entry will be \Device\ ---- delete that entry so you are
left with only TransportBindName with no value
11) To enable My Computer security setting in Internet Options Control Panel navigate to this key
HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ Internet Settings \ Zones \ 0
12) Right click on & Modify the value named Flags
13) The default value is Hexadecimal 21, change the value to hexadecimal 1
14) Done with registry editor ..exit or close registry editor
15) Restart the computer...
Now go to control panel > internet options > set all the settings to High for SP2 and Medium for SP3 and block all cookies
Then go to control panel > administrative tools > services > change the following

Then go to the advanced tab > select performance settings > uncheck all except the three below
then close the system properties
Now start group policy (xp pro only)
start menu > run > gpedit.msc
computer configuration > windows settings > local policies > security options >
interactive logon: do not require ctrl+alt+del > disabled
shutdown: clear virtual memory pagefile > enabled
computer configuration > administrative templates > windows components > windows update >
configure automatic updates > disabled
computer configuration > administrative templates > windows components > windows media player >
prevent automatic updates > enabled
computer configuration > administrative templates > system >
turn off autoplay > enabled > turn off autoplay on all drives
computer configuration > administrative templates > network > offline files >
allow or disallow use of the ofline files feature > disabled
close the group policy editor
then go to control panel > folder options > view tab
uncheck hide extensions for known file types
uncheck use simple file sharing
then control panel > taskbar and start menu >
uncheck auto-hide the taskbar
uncheck group similar taskbar buttons
uncheck show quick launch
uncheck hide inactive icons
then finally control panel > network connections > right-click on local area connection select properties > uncheck all except internet protocol (tcp/ip),
then select internet protcol (tcp/ip) and click on properties > if you use manual configuration fill up the fields then click on advanced > under the wins tab disable netbios over tcp/ip
restart the computer
