If you've got a computer that's 'stand alone' (you don't use it for networking, like Internet, etc.), you can free up all this CPU and RAM memory Microsoft automatically sets up with its self-installed background programs when you load Windows on the computer. Have to be careful though, because some of the programs you might need for some work.

I once had a 1.3gHz running XP for music production, not for Internet use. Souping it up like this (not to this extreme) allowed me more processing power for music files, less render times, etc. If you're a programmer, might be reason to do this too (eliminate chances of other programs affecting your software development).

I agree this would be good to do to a S/A, but who actually uses a box like this unless you have no real internet options?
It would also probably be more problematic with not being able to update ANYTHING.
