Yellow Stone Super VolcanoIt seems Yellow Stone Super Volcano is having an earthquake swarm today Im not sure of the significance of this as yet ... I find it a little suspicious that yesterdays California earthquake that awakened me at 4:20 in the morning was not on a known fault but was adjacent to Mt Lassen volcano area, Then today Yellowstone is swarming. I no this may seem at first glance to be to distant to be related however Volcanoes are very sympathic to each other at great distances. If you stop to think they all have the same source of Lava from the molten layer in the earth this Lava often travels through tubes called "Lava Tubes"that can run for many miles under the earth. Yellowstone could just swarm for a few Days and stop with no futher activity Or it could increase this signaling something going on there or within the rest of Volcano chain thats runs along the coast of Calif, Oregon, Washington. It deserves to be monitered. By the way a swarm is a series of Quakes that happens one after the other near the same location M 3.2 2008/12/27 22:30:03 61 km ( 38 mi) ESE of West Yellowstone, M 3.4 2008/12/27 20:26:27 62 km ( 38 mi) ESE of West Yellowstone, M 3.5 2008/12/27 20:17:32 62 km ( 39 mi) ESE of West Yellowstone, M 2.3 2008/12/27 18:56:35 62 km ( 38 mi) ESE of West Yellowstone, M 2.8 2008/12/27 18:23:07 61 km ( 38 mi) ESE of West Yellowstone, M 2.5 2008/12/27 17:01:07 62 km ( 38 mi) ESE of West Yellowstone, M 2.6 2008/12/27 16:30:53 61 km ( 38 mi) ESE of West Yellowstone,

Let's just say that it's "adjusting itself"! That great big old 60 mile crater is just trying to get comfortable and get rid of some holiday tension!

The swarm continues today in Yelowstone 2.4 2008/12/28 15:37:41 ( 37 mi) ESE of West Yellowstone, MT 3.2 2008/12/28 09:23:57 ( 38 mi) ESE of West Yellowstone, MT 2.2 2008/12/28 07:15:19 ( 39 mi) ESE of West Yellowstone, MT 2.1 2008/12/28 06:37:20 ( 37 mi) ESE of West Yellowstone, MT 2.4 2008/12/28 05:23:54 ( 39 mi) ESE of West Yellowstone, MT 3.8 2008/12/28 05:15:56 ( 38 mi) ESE of West Yellowstone, MT 2.6 2008/12/28 00:08:50 ( 39 mi) ESE of West Yellowstone, MT Its intersting to note these quakes are in a lake that was discovered a few years ago to be tipping because there is a buldge building on one end causing the Lake water to rise at one end and fall at the other. This is said to be a pocket of Lava building under the Lake causing the land under the water to rise ...

I didnt feel it but if you say so. If it erupts as predicted I have been told I wont know it because I will be dead before I realize it being so close to it.

I have a healthy respect for volcanoes and know only too well how unpredictable the results of eruptions can be.Volcanology fascinates me but I must say, I am happy to live away from any active volcano!

I still havent felt anything, I guess they must be small quakes because I live about 90 miles away and havent felt a single tremor.OK I see its being felt less than 40 miles out so I guess I am safe.

YELLOWSTONE VOLCANO OBSERVATORY INFORMATION RELEASEMonday, December 29, 2008 19:07 MST (Tuesday, December 30, 2008 02:07 UTC)YELLOWSTONE VOLCANO (CAVW#1205-01-)44.43°N 110.67°W, Summit Elevation 9203 ft (2805 m)Volcano Alert Level: NORMALAviation Color Code: GREENEarthquake swarm beneath Yellowstone Lake continues.PRESS RELEASE FROM YVO PARTNER UNIVERSITY OF UTAH SEISMOGRAPH STATIONSReleased: December 29, 2008 05:00 PM MSTThe University of Utah Seismograph Stations reports that a notable swarm of earthquakes has been underway since December 26 beneath Yellowstone Lake in Yellowstone National Park, three to six miles south-southeast of Fishing Bridge, Wyoming. This energetic sequence of events was most intense on December 27, when the largest number of events of magnitude 3 and larger occurred. The largest of the earthquakes was a magnitude 3.9 (revised from magnitude 3. at 10:15 pm MST on Dec. 27. The sequence has included nine events of magnitude 3 to 3.9 and approximately 24 of magnitude 2 to 3 at the time of this release. A total of more than 250 events large enough to be located have occurred in this swarm. Reliable depths of the larger events are up to a few miles. Visitors and National Park Service (NPS) employees in the Yellowstone Lake area reported feeling the largest of these earthquakes.Earthquakes are a common occurrence in the Yellowstone National Park area, an active volcanic-tectonic area averaging 1,000 to 2,000 small earthquakes a year. Yellowstone's 10,000 geysers and hot springs are the result of this geologic activity. This December 2008 earthquake sequence is the most intense in this area for some years and is centered on the east side of the Yellowstone caldera. Scientists cannot identify any causative fault or other feature without further analysis. Seismologists continue to monitor and analyze the data and will issue new information if the situation warrants it.The University of Utah operates a seismic network in Yellowstone National Park in conjunction with the National Park Service and the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS). These three institutions are partners in the Yellowstone Volcano Observatory.Data are transmitted to the University in real-time by radio and satellite links from a network of 28 seismographs in the Yellowstone area. Seismologists continue to analyze data from this swarm of earthquakes and provide updates to the NPS and USGS

Now the unofficail veiw :Earthquake Swarms at Yellowstone Continue In 2005, the BBC broadcast the film, "Supervolcano," about a fictional supervolcano eruption Yellowstone Park. This is a still from the film. "The mainstream media efforts to keep this story under wraps have failed. Earthquakes in the Yellowstone Caldera are becoming more focused which is an indication that magma is moving toward the surface through the earth's crust. It is important to point out that the Yellowstone Caldera Super Volcano is 160,000 years, plus or minus a few decades , and is overdue for a massive planet killing eruption. If you live in this area it might be wise to begin emergency preparedness actions." — LAN LAMPHERE, The Lan Lamphere Radio Show, December 29, 2008.YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK — A swarm of earthquakes continued to rattle Yellowstone National Park on Monday, December 29. Over the past two days, more than 37 temors have shaken the earth below Yellowstone Lake, causing scientists to speculate on the cause and field questions on whether the quakes were a prelude to an eruption of the park’s super volcano.“It’s an energetic earthquake swarm,” said Mike Stickney, director of the earthquake studies office for the Montana Bureau of Mines and Geology. “I’m hearing reports that people in the park have been feeling some of them.”Stickney said mild earthquakes swarms are relatively common for the Yellowstone region. This round of quakes, however, may be more vigorous than in recent years, though the cause is just as puzzling.“There have been two other swarms this fall that come to mind,” said Stickney. “But they weren’t as many and they weren’t as large as what we’re seeing now.”Yellowstone National Park contains the largest volcano on Earth, and many earthquake observers say the Yellowstone supervolcanoe is "overdue" for a eruption. It’s very unusual for so many earthquakes to happen over several days, said Robert Smith, a professor of geophysics at the University of Utah.“They’re certainly not normal,” Smith said. “We haven’t had earthquakes in this energy or extent in many years.” Smith directs the Yellowstone Seismic Network, which operates seismic stations around the park. He said the quakes have ranged in strength from barely detectable to one of magnitude 3.8 Saturday. A magnitude 4 quake is capable of producing moderate damage. “This is an active volcanic and tectonic area, and these are the kinds of things we have to pay attention to,” Smith said. “We might be seeing something precursory. Could it develop into a bigger fault or something related to hydrothermal activity? We don’t know. That’s what we’re there to do, to monitor it for public safety.”http://www.henrysforkcountry.com/atf.php?sid=197
