Psalm 23:5, my cup runs over, overflow is not luxury, it’s not God showing off or divine excess for entertainment, overflow is assignment. A full cup means God has given you enough for yourself, an overflowing cup means God has given you something that cannot stay with you, it must pour into others. Your overflow is someone else’s answer. Your testimony is someone else’s lifeline. Your resilience is someone else’s roadmap. God doesn’t overflow you because you need more, he overflows you, because your life is supposed to leak glory everywhere you go. The anointing protects your head, the overflow releases your purpose, the oil is not for display, it is for deployment, the enemy attacks the head, because the head carries destiny, God anoints the head, because the anointing preserves destiny, God protects your mind, so he can release your mission.

Follow, it does not mean casually follow, stroll behind, observe from a distance, follow means to pursue, to chase, to hunt down, this is a military verb. Follow, is a word used for armies chasing their enemies until they overtake them, David is not saying, goodness and mercy are somewhere behind me, he is saying, God has deployed goodness and mercy like trained soldiers assigned to overtake my life. God is not trailing you like a suggestion, he is coming after you like a certainty, your past may have chased you with shame, regret, addiction, failure and fear, but your future is chasing you with goodness, God giving you what you do not deserve. Mercy, God withholding what you do deserve, one covers your past, the other secures your future, together, they refuse to let you go.
Some of you believe God is walking ahead of you and he is, God has also assigned angels to come behind you, every time you thought your failure disqualified you, mercy caught you. Every time you thought you missed your moment, goodness dragged you back into destiny. You are not running toward blessing, blessing is running toward you. You are not trying to convince God to be faithful, faithfulness is hunting you down. Some of you keep expecting judgment, but God keeps sending mercy. You expect consequences, but God keeps releasing goodness. You expect abandonment, but God keeps pursuing you. The psalm does not say, surely if I perform well, goodness and mercy will stay with me, it says, surely, inevitable, non-negotiable, guaranteed, God is more committed to your future than you are.
The shepherd does not just lead from the front, he guards from behind, goodness secures your steps, mercy erases your missteps, no wonder David doesn’t end in fear, he ends in confidence. Psalm 23:6, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever, notice how the journey ends, not in fear, but in home, not running, but resting, not wandering, but belonging. This is not a man trying to escape life, this is a king who has finally understood it, for David, the house of the LORD is not simply a building, it is not architecture, ritual or location, it is presence, the nearness of the shepherd who guided him every step of the way.
