“As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.”
Other languages give this verse a negative connotation, as if to say that sharpening is painful and there is a lot of pain and anger involved. This is true especially when people meet for the first time and have to get used to one another. However, whenever I think of this verse, a different picture comes to mind. I have been married for fifteen years and have two children. In all this time, I have learned things from my wife and children as well as taught them as much as I know. I still have a lot to learn, but I can say that due to all the experiences I have been through with my family, I am not the same person as I was 15 years ago. Also, many friends and coworkers have had a great influence on me, and I thank God for all the times, good or bad, that He has brought me through up to now next to my family and friends. I only pray that what happens from now on will bring me closer to God and to those I love, and that I would have the same influence on them as they had on me.
