Day # 3
Read: Matthew 3:1-4:11
Jesus said to him, “Away from me, Satan! For it is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only.’ ” Then the devil left him, and angels came and attended him.
Matthew 4:10-11 NIV
Jesus not only could quote scripture, He understood it well enough to be able to not be deceived by Satan's tricks. He also fasted forty days. In the chapter before, He followed the will of the Father, setting the example of water baptism by John the Baptist. He was prepared to face the devil and his attacks.
To be like Jesus and withstand the enemy, it is important to pray continually and fast if possible. It is important to practice living the Word. Not just hearing, but doing it. But most important, it is knowing the Word, not just in quotation marks. Because satan tried to use scripture against Jesus, and He was able to see through his lies.
