“Thus says the Lord: I remember the devotion of your youth, your love as a bride, how you followed me in the wilderness… What wrong did your fathers find in Me that they went far from Me?” — Jeremiah 2:2, 5

God doesn’t start with wrath. He starts with remembrance.

He remembers when His people burned for Him. When they didn’t chase platforms or pleasure—when they followed Him through desert seasons simply because He was God.

But something changed.

The people exchanged His glory for what does not profit (Jeremiah 2:11). They drank from broken cisterns that could hold no water (Jeremiah 2:13). And the Church today is no different.

We have abandoned the fountain of living waters and turned to poisoned wells:
– Celebrity pastors
– Emotional hype
– Social gospel activism without a cross
– Self-help sermons divorced from repentance

> “They went after worthlessness, and became worthless.” — Jeremiah 2:5

The Bride Has Forgotten Her Husband

> “Can a virgin forget her ornaments, or a bride her attire? Yet my people have forgotten Me days without number.” — Jeremiah 2:32

The Church has not just forgotten God—she’s forgotten what it means to belong to Him.

She dresses for the world but not for the wedding.
She builds her kingdom, but not His.
She quotes Jesus, but doesn't walk with Him.

We preach grace but live in whoredom.
We celebrate liberty, but despise holiness.
We love the gifts but reject the Giver.

And the LORD asks one piercing question:

> “What fault did you find in Me?”
What flaw did you see in My mercy, My covenant, My Word—
That made you trade Me for entertainment and spiritual adultery?

⚔️ From Bride to Harlot

Jeremiah 2 doesn’t whisper—it roars.

> “You are a swift she-camel running here and there… You sit by the road like a bandit waiting for lovers.” — Jeremiah 2:23-25 (paraphrased)

The Holy Spirit isn’t exaggerating. He’s calling it what it is: prostitution of worship. Trading intimacy with God for cheap thrills of cultural relevance, applause, and sensual compromise.

How many churches today advertise “experience” instead of repentance?
How many trade in the reverence of God for “a vibe”?
How many pulpits talk about everything but the blood?

And Still... No Shame

> “You say, ‘I am not defiled... I have not gone after Baals!’” — Jeremiah 2:23
“Behold, I will bring you to judgment because you say, ‘I have not sinned.’” — Jeremiah 2:35

The most dangerous place for the Church is not rebellion with remorse, but rebellion with denial.
This is where we are.

We post Bible verses and live like hell.
We manufacture spiritual feelings and call it revival.
We deny our sin while clinging to forms of godliness that have no power.

God says: “My people do not ask, ‘Where is the Lord?’” (Jer. 2:6)
Because they don’t miss Him. They don’t even notice He’s gone.

Let This Be Your Wake-Up Cry

> “Your own wickedness will correct you, and your apostasies will reprove you. Know therefore and see that it is evil and bitter for you to forsake the Lord your God.” — Jeremiah 2:19

This isn’t a call to shame—it’s a call to return.

Return to the wilderness walk.
Return to the God who satisfies.
Return to the voice that once broke you and healed you in the same breath.

> “If you return, O Israel, return to Me.” (Jeremiah 4:1)

Let this fire burn away the fog.
Let it cleanse the altar.
Let it rip the stage down until all that remains is a Bride who remembers her First Love.
