“For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.”

I like very much how sometimes authors use vivid pictures to describe ideas. Here, apostle Paul describes the power of the Word of God. Especially for those living at the time when the apostle Paul wrote this, a double-edged sword represents a powerful weapon. It has the power to destroy whichever way it strikes, and sooner or later it penetrates through its target.

If we knew that this is the power of God’s Word, we would be less concerned with trying to convince people of sin, and we would let the Word of God do the work. This is not to say that we should not tell others about what it says, but it seems to me that we often fight too hard to change certain things, or we stress too much certain issues thinking that otherwise nothing will change, instead of just saying what we need to say and let the Word of God do the work. If God’s Word is still living and active, all we have to do is listen to what God is telling us to say and do, and the rest of the work is up to Him; sooner or later, there will be results even if we never get to see them. The Word of the Lord will never turn void.
