Hmmm....

I am a fairly recently converted Christian. I was raised by parents who were and are still Pagans. I was raised to fear Christians, to avoid them at all costs. That they would hurt me and try to burn me and do horrible things to my friends and family.

Imagine my dilemma when I fell in love with a Christian girl and two years later she became my wife. It was through her love and the teachings of the bible that I came to know and accept Christ as my savior. I have never been happier, but there are a few things I'd like to address.

I'm a relatively young Christian, only 23. But...I don't understand this world I was born into.

Today I settled in to play a new video game that was just released. It received a ton of hype, and my friends were all over it, so I borrowed it from someone and decided to see what it was all about.

The game play was interesting, the art was nice. The reason I quit playing?

Every other word of dialogue was either a swear word or some lewd sexual reference. It was so bad that I had a hard time understanding the objectives of the game when they were being explained to me by the in game tutorials because every word was punctuated with a colorful stream of sailor talk.

Now look at advertising. I have been noticing it more and more in commercials, TV, movies. It all leads back to sex. I saw a commercial for a frozen dinner once that had sexual connotations in it. Really? I can't even watch a dinner ad without sex being shoved down my throat.

Don't get me wrong. Sex between a married man and woman is great, and I enjoy it just as much as the next man, but it is NOT and should not be the focus of our lives here. God didn't breathe life into us so that we could spend it focusing on sex; He did it so that we could learn and prepare ourselves for His kingdom.

I'm hearing it now out on the streets. People use profanity like punctuation marks and innuendos like they're discussing the weather. This is most prevailant in people my own age but it's not non existent from my elders.

It's been bothering me more and more, and I've been hearing it more and more often. It even goes further.

Most people I know nowadays not only don't believe, but resent the Lord and anyone who loves Him. They don't want to hear about God, they don't want to think about God, they don't want Him in their lives at all to the point of aggression and resentment. These are Americans who believe that the right path is the path away from God.

The purpose for this entry is not to judge or condemn those who haven't found Jesus yet. I was there too, after all. It's an expression of my sadness for the way the world is. And the closer I get to God, the more obvious how dire the times I live in are. My eyes are beginning to open, and I'm shocked and dismayed.

And I'm scared for the fate of my brothers and sisters.
