The Path to a More Simple Life

I have been aboard the “minimalism” train for about six months now. Everyone that truly knows me, knows I love to talk about it. Perhaps even annoyingly so. If so, sorry.

But I can’t seem to help myself. I prefer a simple life.

There is something very freeing and rewarding about living a life that is simpler. And it’s not just about getting rid of possessions. Living a more simple life is beneficial – not only to you, but also to those around you.

As I’ve mentioned before, I am taking care of my mother who has been unable to walk since July 2013.

It’s been a challenge, but with God’s help this simplicity has helped give me more peace in trying to manage my new responsibilities.

I have been able to remove many unnecessary and unhealthy distractions from my life, which in turn, have added great benefits to my life:

• Less focus on material possessions
• More opportunity to rest
• Creating room for what’s truly important
• More peace of mind
• More happiness and less stress
• Freedom from perceived expectations (i.e. everyone else has that, or does that)
• A closer relationship to God

As I slowly moved into a more simplified, content life, I realized that I had more time and energy (and clear thinking) to devote to higher and deeper things, one of which was helping my mother in her need.
