Let us lay aside every weight,
and the sin which doth so easily beset us,
and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,
Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith:
who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross,
despising the shame,
and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.
Hebrews 12:1-2
@Cachalot Great passage there; and 'the sin which doth so easily beset us' in verse 1 may in the context be unbelief, given that in the context it follows on from all the OT examples of what was done 'by faith', 'by faith', 'by faith'....does this seem to make sense?

Here is the full context:

Wherefore seeing we also are compassed
about with so great a cloud of witnesses,
let us lay aside every weight,
and the sin which doth so easily beset us,
and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,
Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith;
who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross,
despising the shame,
and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

Hebrews 12:1-2

It is anything that can cumber our walk with Christ. - Anything the gets between us and Christ.

When we serve the flesh , WHO are we really trusting in . Ponder on that .
For therein lies who we love and who we love is whose we are . Sin is deadly .
And it sure can and will harden a heart . Who we serve IS whose we are .
Who are we trusting in when we sin . Ponder on that .
I say this to help us understand why the early church had such a grave and direct approach against sin .
