Preaching is like turning over a cold engine with a starting motor. Once the engine is running you don't need the starter anymore. Then it becomes a question of all the cylinders individually firing in the right order.

Just coming back to this, I really like this as an analogy! I'm hoping to have a chance to use it!

yeah , i dont think paul would have liked it . He wrote to titus and said , i will that you affirm these things CONSTANTLY .
The reason folks dont like being reminded of being hearers and doers or of sin , IS cause they too in love with said sin .
To remind us of all Biblical truth , for me it is not tedious at all , ITS GOOD and we all NEED reminders .
You aint GOD , i aint GOD and we aint PERFECT . WE NEED BIBLICAL REMINDERS . Unless anyone thinks so highly of themselves

Be careful in what you think it may mean as you have to really know the perspective and its setting from the mind of its author that has not responded yet to my queries.

To be blunt the analogy is woefully inadequate and inappropriate in representing the Body of Christ. For example, is this motor representing the entire Body of Christ or is it a subset of the Body, where there are many more motors? The later view would be more useful. I just think this OP was ill-thought out and rushed to gain any meaningful benefit from it as it stands.

Every analogy falls short, naturally! Still, it's now part of my "linguistic tool box". It's part of how we build each other up, or, in this case, "equipping for ministy", as I have something to offer to help someone to understand better.

The church of God, once established, is not meant to be preached at but rather to be taught in an interactive way. How else will every member become equipped to fulfill his/her function in the body?

What need is served by gratuitous bashing of an ideology you do not share? I don't know anyone who mentioned the Watchtower Society in this thread and have no idea why you are directing this comment to me since I am not affiliated with that organization in any way and I never was.

I surmise it is ego. Pivoting from ways God reaches people to brainwashing. Sad devotion. You might want to familiarize yourself with James 4:11-12.

Peter said a three of times in his second epistle that we needed to be reminded of what we already know.

My two favorite movies are the Godfather and The Good, The Bad and the Ugly. I like them so much I have probably watched them each 50 times.

So do you love the gospel that much? I do! I don't mind how many times I hear it. But furthermore, its not just about hearing what you already know. Its about the physical gathering, the worship and celebration as a group.

Yep . we ought to always stir up one another with the pure ways of remembrance . The truth , the teachings of JESUS and the apostels .
ALl that doctrine is for our own good .
