The purpose of the Bible?

To know God.

It is when reading His word that my spirit is washed, and quickened: He chastens me and brings me to tears of gratitude for His acceptance in the Beloved; and for the forgiveness of all my sins. It is when reading that my spirit worships Him.

It is when reading of all that the Lord Jesus Christ has done, and of Who He is, has been and will be in the future, in accord with the will of God the Father, that I see the love of God outworking, and shed grateful tears of joy unspeakable and full of glory.

The Bible is God reaching out to mankind in love and grace, and making known the person and work of the Living Word, Who came to do the will of His Father, and be the means of reconciling the inhabited world to Him.

Thank you,

Okay, but first examine your own fruits. Make sure your eye is free of 2x4s before helping your brother with his splinter.
Indeed . Feast on the bible . Make sure ITS THAT JESUS WE FOLLOW . Feast on the BIBILE make sure its those apostels
whose pattern we keep . I aint the enemy , Satan is . ONLY he has a lot of folks decieved by a false sensual love
which wont correct , nor keep the original pattern that JESUS TAUGHT and later the apostels would teach .
SO my advice remains . MAKE SURE WE KNOW OUR BIBLES WELL , cause many have decieved us .

Yes, Paul said it, but it would have been true even if Paul didn't say it.
Of course it would , IT WAS SPIRIT INSPIRED . Lets not pick and choose what to believe and follow ,
LOVE ALL THAT JESUS and the APOSTELS TAUGHT . Lest we found wanting in the eyes of the LORD on JUDGMENT DAY .
Have you thought of any questions yet my friend .

Does insulting me strengthen your case?
Trust me, if I insulted you, the Mods would've been on me before I even posted the comment. They don't gimme an inch of slack around here.

But you insulting God by encouraging Christians to have "less to do with the Bible" is the issue at hand. You really should re-think your position and change your statements. It's an obvious blight to your Christian Testimony. One that God will not forget or forgive if you don't change course.

Every JW that has knocked on my door could quote passages better than I could but I have something they don't have.

Every JW that has knocked on my door could quote passages better than I could but I have something they don't have.
They can , so can mormons .
So can others as well .
Did you know that the Jw and the mormon KNOW that most our churches are very non learned in the bible .
When they meet a lamb , who by grace has been in that bible , they soon dont know what to do or say .
They often then RUN from these . Beleive me , we need to be in our bibles big time .
FOR those who truly have Christ , HE looks out for the lambs .
The scrips will indeed make one wise unto salvation THROUGH faith in JESUS CHRIST .
Pearl , they actually run from those who know their bible . By grace i have seen this more than once .
I have spoken with those who came a knocking , or one who came up to me in the park .
He started off out of the gate like a ten legged strong race horse
but soon that ol horse ran out of gas and scripture upon scripture was being said Back to this JW .
Before long , HE suddenly HAD TO GO , IF YA KNOW what i mean . GET DUG in those bibles
and keep the FAITH IN JESUS ALONE . Boast not in us , BOAST ONLY in the LORD . But they will not
be able to overcome the truth that a lamb brings .
They are so used to most church goers have little to no true knowledge of the scriptures .
But a lamb HAS the SPIRIT and it loves the truth in that bible and will feast on those pages .
They will RUN my dear sister . And there are quite a few places
we can easily expose their doctrine . They will RUN , being unable to resist or overcome the truth
that our LORD does give to a lamb .

My question to all is why would any one ever try and downplay the dire importance of scripture .
I already know lots of false ones can quoate the scrips . But that dont mean we ought not to BE IN OUR BIBLES .
WHY would anyone want to try and lessen the dire importance of scripture .
The only one who would try and get us out of our bibles , well he already fell from heaven and wants to take everything
down with him . My advice is dont heed him . Stay glued in bibles and trust Only in the LORD .

It didn't read to me like that.
I couldn't figure out what you were saying. You can call it defensive, but I thought that you had dissected and misread my thoughts, which i thought were made plain, and it bothered me that it appeared you misconstrued my beliefs, which I have every right to defend.
If you have a different explanation than most people do of the word of God, please spell that out.
Sorry for the misunderstanding. I did not intend to offend.
I will try to as you say... spell it out:

Very simply, most people speak of the Bible, the book itself, as being the Word of God. I do not.

I do believe that the Bible was written by men as God inspired them to do so. What they wrote was the Word of God to the writers. What is written, however, to me, or to any other person, is only the Word of God as it is brought to Life [quickened] in us by the quickening Spirit.

It may be quickened to a person reading or hearing the written words of scripture, who has received the gift of the Holy Spirit and is not at the moment quenching the Spirit. Most people, I believe, do too often quench the Spirit in them... which causes the many disagreements among believers such as we witness often on this forum.

Is the purpose of the Bible to help us to know God better, or is that we should do everything the Bible tells us to do? If you say, "Both," which would you consider to be more important?
The purpose of the Bible is to reveal to God’s immense love for human beings. It helps us draw closer to God in our response to that love.

Jesus told us to eat his flesh and drink his blood. The written Bible makes it easy for anyone to the first. Doing the second is where a lot of people, it seems to me, come up short. When we do both then we Live. Is that not important? Without Life do we not remain dead?
Who taught you this?

The Holy Ghost!
Oh goodness....another person who thinks they have been taught by the Holy Spirit. Even thought what they have been taught is OPPOSITE of 2,000 years of Church teaching........ :(

Soooooo, we have been thru this before, why did the Holy Spirit teach you something OPPOSITE of what it has taught other great Christian men who make the same claim as you: that THEY were taught by the Holy Spirit??

Curious Mary

The Holy Spirit does not teach anyone wrong things!

People, who have received the Holy Spirit in most churches of my experience have been taught to quench the Spirit on a regular basis. One result of this is that people hold onto a mixture of truth and error like the Samaritans did. Only when a person always follows the lead of the Holy Spirit will he always agree with another person who also always follows the lead of the Holy Spirit. How many people always follow the lead of the Holy Spirit?

Why am I always right while others are wrong? I do not and have not claimed that!

Like you I strive to follow what I believe with regard to God and the things of God. I strive daily to surrender anew to God and ask for Him to lead me the right way always. Going to the lowest room each day, I believe, helps us to grow toward God.

And I still can't figure what you are on about. The Bible tells you about God. You read and grow your relationship with him. You pray to Him.
But you come off with this what looks like this or that. Did you stop reading? What part have you read? Do you think maybe God has the whole Bible because He wants you to read it all? And maybe reading more gives new insights? You are supposed to read it with God's help.
Ask for guidance before you read.
And how do people worship the Bible anyway before the Lord? It makes no sense. If you are speaking of a class in college like The Bible as Literature, that's one thing.
How is the Bible a substitute for God?The only way i can figure this out is that you are doing something the Bible forbids but God told you it was OK.
What am I about? I believe when we repent of our sin, our problems dissolve. Read Matthew 4:17.

Mods have better things to do than police everything we say.
