2 Peter 3:3-18
[3]Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts,
[4]And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.
[5]For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water:
[6]Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished:
[7]But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.
[8]But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.
[9]The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
[10]But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.
[11]Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness,
[12]Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?
[13]Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.
[14]Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of him in peace, without spot, and blameless.
[15]And account that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given unto him hath written unto you;
[16]As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction.
[17]Ye therefore, beloved, seeing ye know these things before, beware lest ye also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own stedfastness.
[18]But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.

Hello Thefaith,

There is more than a few verses dealing with that text in particular.

I would also consider Mark and Luke’s account, the Account of Luke who wrote Acts, of any other letter of scripture pertaining to the same events you are looking for.

Using the Bible like your thread states is the best thing you can do, along with praying and asking God to help you along your study.

In Christ, great question,
Matthew Gallagher

That sign has not been fulfilled as of yet Faith. It was a sign given by Jesus referring to his return, and other passages in the Bible speaks of that as well like 1 Thes 4:13-17 and 2 Thes 1:6-9. There is no doubt at the fulfillment of that passage all will be aware that Jesus is returning, and most will "mourn" as it will be a bad time for them, but no one at this time would be able to give an accurate description of the actual event, other than what was stated in the Bible. But we do know it is coming, and we believe it is soon, so now is the time to obey God so that we are not found among those mourning, rather the ones celebrating their deliverance.

so the Bible alone cannot interpret the Bible

so the Bible alone cannot interpret the Bible

The Bible is the best source to interpret itself. It is difficult but not impossible, especially if you have a cross-ref Bible which helps finding all the scriptures on a particular subject. Jesus has provided the best tool however which makes it super easy, the faithful slave who has been assigned to shepherd the flock of God in their care. They provide the food at the proper time, new food? No, the Bible is complete, so what they provide is what the Bible actually teaches.

Whether you have private interpretations of the Bible interpreting other parts of the Bible, or you have a Magisterium's interpretation of the Bible interpreting other parts of the Bible, you still have positive feedback loops that perpetuate and amplify any initial human interpretive errors. And I see the bible-interprets-the-bible principle being applied by humans across books, letters, literary genres, authors, etc. in ways that are completely mystifying. Then there are those who claim the Holy Spirit is giving them their idiosyncratic interpretations - so, how do we quality-control check that claim? And the fruit... How many denominations? The angry internet threads. The power struggles. The sectarian violence. That's why I'm a little cynical about the whole process.

20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

Let the Bible interpret the Bible?

from the Bible alone what are these things Christ commanded?

What are the commandments

meaning how do know which is which? It says there are ten but it does not say; “this is the first commandment” etc.

And why is the assumed first commandment different from duet. 6:5 or Matt 22:36-37?

Are you so enmeshed in romaist mind sets you cannot even understand this simple thing?

@Ronald Nolette

We indeed wait on the Spirit of God to give light and illumination and understanding of the Word of God.

'Blind unbelief is sure to err
And scan His works in vain,
God is His own interpreter
And He will make it plain.'

Yes to make disciples. Teaching them to observe all things He commanded.

It is in the verse you cited.

The sign is power and great glory.

The sun and moon are no longer shining.

The brightness of His presence is the sign it is Him.
