The studies you quoted purport to show that progressives are more intelligent than conservatives. I agree a person can improve their athletic capacity through exercising muscles.

Likewise, people have sought to improve their intellectual capacity through exercising their brains. Before tetris there were crossword puzzles or cardboard puzzles with pictures on them.

The claim of geniuses being made not born is an interesting one.

Out of billions in the world who exercise or lift weights. Only a tiny fraction of the population will advance to an elite level of power lifting.

The same observation might be applied to genius. Out of millions who exercise and develop their minds. Only a small segment of the population will reach a level which could be considered genius or elite.

Reaching an elite level of development in power lifting or cognitive ability could require a tremendous amount of energy and time. In addition to this a supreme commitment to consistency could be required. Where there couldn't be much slacking off or taking a break.

Those who reach an elite level in either area could have a natural tendency to pursue their chosen path obsessively. It is possible that this natural tendency is something that they were born with. An instinctive compulsion that isn't necessarily genetic or hereditary.

In that sense, it is possible that geniuses are born. They're born with a predisposition to obsessive compulsively pursue a path of cognitive development.
