Thursday 2-16-23 3rd. Day Of The Weekly Cycle Shevat 24, 5783 58th. Winter Day

Just A viewpoint At Why Did Jesus Say “The Spirit of the Lord Is Upon Me?

Of all the profound truths written by the prophets in the Old Testament, why did Jesus choose this verse for this time? Isaiah’s writings were particularly popular, and eventually would be quoted more times in the New Testament than all other prophets combined. But Jesus had a purpose. A mission about to begin.

Let’s take a few steps back to the prior days in Jesus’ life and see what events led to this extraordinary Sabbath day. Luke chapter 3 records Jesus’ baptism by John in the Jordan River, when something remarkable happened. “The Holy Spirit descended on him in bodily form like a dove” (Luke 3:22). The Holy Spirit came upon Jesus in a visible way.

What a miracle! Imagine being in the crowd of seekers that day waiting to be baptized and witnessing the Holy Spirit empower the son of God on this earth. It’s barely fathomable, but we know it happened. Jesus also knew what awaited him in the coming days and months, and he would need the Spirit to lead him. He would soon face things too difficult for human strength.

Leaving the Jordan, Jesus “was led by the Spirit into the wilderness, where for forty days he was tempted by the devil” (Luke 4:1-2). Hungry and exhausted, the devil threw everything he had at Jesus. Yet the Holy Spirit led Jesus there, stayed with him, and also guided him out. Luke assured us through his account, Jesus continued to walk in the Spirit. “Jesus returned to Galilee in the power of the Spirit, and news about him spread through the whole countryside” (Luke 4:14).

The Holy Spirit’s power to withstand the enemy’s worst attack gives us hope. Many times I feel overwhelmed with all life throws my way. And I just don’t have the strength to go another step. So I’m grateful for Jesus’ example he so willingly lived out for us. The same Spirit helping Jesus in the wilderness lives in me today. I have reason to not give up!

“...the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you” (John 14:17).

Ha... and then too the question of what difference is there between the Spirit of the Lord being "upon someone" and being "in someone"? Can a person be "filled with the Holy Spirit" without being "led by the Holy Spirit"?

Perhaps for Jesus his ministry with mankind was really beginning when he spoke those words in Luke 4:18...the start of 3½ years working on a very personal basis with men. Yet at the end of it ALL of his closest followers [the 12 or 11 without Judas Iscariot] ran away from him so how well then did they know Him? How well were following the lead of the Holy Spirit/

Was the Holy Spirit ever upon us before being in us and even before we were led by Him? Who among us has already overcome the world as Jesus did before physical death?

Hello Amadeus, Like for me as I understand that Godly Sorrow worketh repentance upon me, but He knows when to fill me with His Spirit, to be led of Him, and He gets my attention when that happens.

But I think it is pretty different with Jesus because the scripture says in Luke 2:25-40

Luke 2:25-40

Simeon's Prophecy

25 And, behold, there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon; and the same man was just and devout, waiting for the consolation of Israel: and the Holy Ghost was upon him.

26 And it was revealed unto him by the Holy Ghost, that he should not see death, before he had seen the Lord's Christ.

27 And he came by the Spirit into the temple: and when the parents brought in the child Jesus, to do for him after the custom of the law,

28 Then took he him up in his arms, and blessed God, and said,

29 Lord, now lettest thou thy servant depart in peace, according to thy word:

30 For mine eyes have seen thy salvation,

31 Which thou hast prepared before the face of all people;

32 A light to lighten the Gentiles, and the glory of thy people Israel.

33 And Joseph and his mother marvelled at those things which were spoken of him.

34 And Simeon blessed them, and said unto Mary his mother, Behold, this child is set for the fall and rising again of many in Israel; and for a sign which shall be spoken against;

35 (Yea, a sword shall pierce through thy own soul also,) that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed.

36 And there was one Anna, a prophetess, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Aser: she was of a great age, and had lived with an husband seven years from her virginity;

37 And she was a widow of about fourscore and four years, which departed not from the temple, but served God with fastings and prayers night and day.

38 And she coming in that instant gave thanks likewise unto the Lord, and spake of him to all them that looked for redemption in Jerusalem.

39 And when they had performed all things according to the law of the Lord, they returned into Galilee, to their own city Nazareth.

40 And the child grew, and waxed strong in spirit, filled with wisdom: and the grace of God was upon him.

Amen, my friend, it was different for Jesus. Unlike you and I, while Jesus did have temptations to overcome as a man, he never had sinful habits and history. We, all of the rest of us, have. Jesus overcame the temptations in his natural life but there was no sin in him. He paid the price for our sins and provided through the Holy Spirit the means for us to overcome our temptations and to eliminate our sinful ways... the ways that is which would if followed lead us back into sin. What a mighty God we serve!

Doing well today. I had my 3rd chemotherapy treatment this past Thursday and had a miserable evening but on Friday I received a n up lifting phone call from the friend in California who close to 50 years ago helped me reset my direction toward God. We spoke for over 2 hours and prayed together. I was so refreshed and anticipate more similar gatherings soon. Give God the glory!

In the OT, you read this.......>"take not your Holy Spirit from me".

So, this is not the same as being born again into the Spirit of God, by the Holy Spirit, now that The Cross has been raised and the "time of the Gentiles" is in progress.
As to be born again, is a SEALED for eternity joining between God's Spirit and the reborn spirit, or the "new Creation".
The "new Creation" is literally the born again spirit become "one with God".
This is to become : 'IN Christ".

So, the "spirit of the Lord is upon me", is the same as ....

Go to Jerusalem and wait for the ... Luke 24:49....... "power from on High".

See that?
That is actually an imbuement with the Spirit.
Its an enabling BY the Holy Spirit for the purpose of the Ministry.

Another way to think of it is...>"the call of God that the Holy Spirit empowers".

This is to be "sent".

Its the Heavenly Anointing for God's Service, ... reader.
