I thought we were done with you. :|
If you want to sling verses in a yellow line contest I'll be your huckleberry, but you are a bore. You are too busy trying to pose as smart to actually be such. And I RARELY EVER say such things to people.
No, 1 John 4:16-18 is only a basis for this strange idea of yours when you rip it out of context as you did here. It's too bad that you neglected to consider the two preceding verses.
I didn't not consider. Shame you have to make up stuff to feed your arguments. I'll put it in context all the way from chapter one. BUT WE HAVE ALREADY DONE THAT WITH YOU AND WHEN YOU COULD NOT TRACK THE CONVERSATION YOU LEFT IT UNANSWERED AND AVOIDED IT. EITHER YOU THINK YOU ARE TOO SMART TO BE QUESTIONED SO YOU IGNORED IT, OR YOU HAD NO ANSWER, OR YOU ARE JUST A POMPOUS RUDE BOY. I DON'T KNOW I DON'T CARE IT MAKES YOU NOT WORTH WASTING TIME ON. Since you won't answer context arguments, and that's proven 3 times already to be empirical fact, I don't know why I go forward.... but here I go....
1Jn 4:14 And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent his Son to be the Savior of the world.
1Jn 4:15 Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides in him, and he in God.
Yes, the preceding two are very good warnings to help them avoid the Gnostic teachers of the time.
1Jn 4:16 So we have come to know and to believe the love that God has for us. God is love, and whoever abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him.
1) God is love. If you abide in Love you abide in God.
2) If you don't abide in love, you don't abide in God.
3) If you abide in God/Love it/he abides in you.
So tell me how the heck I am out of context when I say that if you do not have the love right, you do not abide in God. Those are the very words in the verse. Is your great brilliant theological position that the words don't mean what they say?
1Jn 4:17 By this is love perfected with us, so that we may have confidence for the day of judgment, because as he is so also are we in this world.
Love is perfected... love here, agape, I don't think you'll find many uses where an action isn't associated with it, or referred to by it's use. There seems to nearly always need to be a demonstration or action associated with the emotion to use the word Agape. It's used for sex, incestuous rape, for desiring and acting on evil things, it's a broad application word; but a common them to it is the "works" associated with the emotion when the word is used. Through works you are perfected, Eph 4; love requires works and you are perfected.... common theme...
As he is so also are we in this world... DOH really sounds like Eph 4 to me with the quadruply redundant concept of being as spiritually mature as Christ.
AS WELL AS what CHRIST prayed for in John 17, that we be IN HIM as HE was in GOD....
I could go on, but why bother you'll ignore all of this and just scream your rant over again like the last times.
1Jn 4:18 There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear. For fear has to do with punishment, and whoever fears has not been perfected in love.
If there is no fear in love, why? Because it's matured you/ perfected you/ the goal is love. See vs 2:8 *(WAIT that's context and you can't answer contextual questions... I forgot, or is it WILL not answer...)* In that verse you see that they were having the "darkness washed off" by doing the "commandments" love God and Neighbor is my thought on which commandments John referenced. AND FOR THOSE GUYS/GIRLS having darkness washed off was a prerequisite for being in fellowship with God. "There is no darkness in Him. John was in fellowship with HIM but they weren't in fellowship with them... chapter 1".
You know what it is here NO MAD? You are a lemming, you follow those in front of you, and parrot their thoughts. WHen it comes to facing a new idea, or a new argument, you have lots of bluster, but no respect, and no conversation, just lecture, repeating what you've heard.
John is writing to those who already profess faith in Christ, so your theory would be completely foreign to them.
That doesn't even clock. He wrote it, not me. It's his words, not mine. YOu make an ASSumption that you have nothing in text to back up. You do that alot.
Also, you cannot just divorce verses 14 -15 from 16-18. The love John is talking about is the result of the giving and receiving of Christ. See verse 14-16. It's very clear there.
No, it's not. I've presented a very viable alternative way to read it. I could give you about a dozen more viable ways to read it. HEck I bet I can come up with 50 different ways to read those verses. Your interpretation is NOT the only way to read it. So, we take a look at those different ways and then we work out with CONTEXT which way fits more consistently. SOMETIMES we add some history, like knowing about the Gnostic threat that John was referencing. We don't just read it and take the first way that fits our theology then demand that's how it is.
When I'm faced with a new thought I have to explore it to see if it has merit. Your first impulse is to demand someone accept YOUR interpretation and you ignore the other.
It's through Christ that God demonstrates his love for us and, abiding in God's love means to confess Christ and love our brothers,
If you think being IN CHRISt is nothing more than confessing Christ and whatever you think love is for your brothers I'm sure we'll miss you in the next life. :| Christ COMMANDED You to love as perfectly as GOD HIMSELF does which included loving providentially (agape) your / HIS enemies.
See verses 20-21. There's no such thing as being saved through some sort of nebulous, Christ-less love.
No one said crap about Christless you strawman dating annoyance. Just make it up as you go.
IF YOU ARE IN GOD/LOVE would pretty much demand that you are not Christless. Where do you make this stuff up at? Do you have help? shrooms? magic toads? If you arein GOD and HIM IN YOU you have the love. If you dont' have the love, that's proof you aren't there yet so quit claiming confessing his name gets you there.
Joh 14:6 Jesus said to him, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
Yes, it doesn't contradict anything I said. BUT IF YOU ARE WITH THE FATHER YOU HAVE THE LOVE, is vs 16. IF YOU CLAIM TO BE WITH THE FATHER, but don't have the love you are damned, or at least not yet arrived.
Act 4:12 And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved."
Nobody suggested you go to someone else.
The point is, if the LOVE IS ABSENT you can shout that name, make as many altar calls as you wish, you aren't getting any closer to God, in fact probably further away.
Nomad, will you EVER read what is written and think about it before you reply, or is this going to be some personal grudge match with you forever?
