One thing that helps me is to help others. There are ways to help others and be charitable which brings peace to our souls.

Evil must be killed at times, and the military does that, same with police, but it must not be a distraction from the real purpose of life, which is to help people.

Yes, any fulfillment I get now at my age comes from helping others. My military days are long gone now.

Does this mean that your conscience is seared by your military activities?

FWIW, my older stepson came back from Afghanistan with his head kinda messed-up. Ended up trashing his marriage and spending some jail time. It happens. He's much better now (thank you, Lord).
