They identify it as a monitor lizard, which is not native to AZ. (Our largest native lizards are the Gila monster and the chuckawalla.) Perhaps it was originally someone’s pet.

AZ lizards thrive in the summer heat, but also will die from too much time in direct sun.

Thanks for posting.

Interesting.

Never heard of the Chuckawalla. Gila Monster, pretty but toxic? Do you see many?

I always thought Tucson would be a nice city. Is it? Can you tell something about it?

Some of my family moved to Phoenix about 1971 after a brief earthquake here in Los Angeles. We stayed because of having jobs here and couldn't take the Summer heat there.

Thanks for the reply.

I’ve never seen a chuckawalla in the wild (Arizona Chuckwalla Lizard Behavior, Characteristics), and have not seen a Gila monster in the wild since the 60s, but folks in other parts of Tucson say they have.

Tucson was an indeed a nice city at one time, but the current politicians in the city and the county are slowly ruining it. Crime is up, drug use increases, people are camping in and around the washes, and the cost of living is going up at an alarming rate. If the politicians could be persuaded to turn to God, we surely would see improvements all around.

At this rate, the whole state is trending toward some version of California. Sigh.

My hope for the future is based on God’s providence.

Peace and blessings.

Very interesting, thanks for the link and information on Tucson.

Yes, rents here in Los Angeles are astronomical. I've been in this apartment since 1974 so because the city only let them raise rents three or four percent each year, my rent is lower. But it's still very high to me on Social Security.

Mom died on June 21 at 94 years old. I'm taking care of red tape. But once I am done with everything, I have to see if I should stay here and budget a lot....or try to make a move out-of-state. I'm soon to be 74....hard to make moves.

I only have a cousin in Montgomery, Alabama and a cousin in Amish country in Ohio. Other cousins scattered around the USA are much younger and I don't really know them.

Our sincere condolences on the passing of your dear mother, now resting in the arms of God.

Tough decision on whether to leave warm LA. My uncle and aunt (in their 90s) reluctantly left Torrance for Colorado, only because they needed a daughter’s care.

Alabama: warm but much more humid. Bugs? Snakes? Certainly Lower cost of living. Larger concentrations of Christians!

Ohio: much colder in the winter. Lower cost of living. Life among the Amish sounds like fun. (We have a daughter in Columbus; the public schools on the north side are wonderful).

May God inspire you with a great decision.

I don't drive anymore... don't want a car expense, couldn't afford it in Los Angeles anyhow.

So I need to be able to get to doctors easily. Here I walk three minutes to my dentist. I walk one block to my opthalmologist. I take a taxi to my regular doctor, not too far.

My cousin in Fredericktown, Ohio drives but he has had some health issues... including one right now.

My cousin in Montgomery, Alabama doesn't drive (takes Uber) and her husband has a lot of serious health issues needing home care nurses.
