CNN begrudgingly had to report about Walz's falsehood. As noted in the video, if Vance would have done this, the liberal media would have blasted the story all over.

When did Walz actually retire from the National Guard, before or after his unit was ordered to deploy to Iraq? Any idea? Can you show definitive proof?

"My final two years in the Marines flew by and were largely uneventful, though two incidents stand out, each of which speaks to the way the Marine Corps changed my perspective. The first was a moment in time in Iraq, where I was lucky to escape any real fighting but which affected me deeply nonetheless." J. D. Vance, Hillbilly Elegy, PDF version, page 55.

Every guard member knows there's always a possibility they may be called to war. Walz's unit had been told in March 2005 there was a possibility they would be deployed in the next two years. Sometime in May Walz retired. His unit deployed in July 2005. It wasn't like they told him, okay, you are going to Iraq in July, and Walz quickly went out and retired. What you're saying, and what all the Walz haters are saying, is disingenuous and close to being outright lies. You'd do better get your facts straight before you go repeating everything you hear from the fake news. What in the world is wrong with a man retiring after 24 years of service? So he didn't want to go to Iraq, big deal. He didn't do a thing wrong. The Republicans are seriously desperate and all they have are half-truths and lies.

So, he wanted out. What's the problem? He served for 24 years. He ran for Governor, won and was reelected in 2022. Must've done something right. Republicans are in serious panic mode and are grasping at straws.
